Nah. Every story Maekawa writes is shlock; he relies too heavily on pre-existing works, tropes, "aura", one-liners, and dramatic framing to do the emotional heavy lifting. The stories themselves are strung together by themes and motifs that give the impression its deep but has nothing to do with the narrative. SA2 has the same problem; the entire Sonic/ Shadow rivalry >>538015618 has fuckall to do with the actual story. Compare SA2 to movie 3 which actually connects Sonic and Shadow's rivalry back to Longclaw and Maria. That's what a coherent narrative looks like.

I'm not saying that realism never existed in Sonic. However 06 was literally created with the idea of Sonic living in the real world. Nothing about 06 comes across as "surreal" it's just set pieces that don't look 100% realistic because they're from a fucking video game dude. The actual aesthetic and artstyle reminds me more of GTA and Final Fantasy than actual Sonic games.

I ended up liking the changes the movies have done to the characters, in their own way obviously.
Making Knuckles an active character looking for the Master Emerald rather than just being tricked. I know it's a cartoon series but Knuckles seemingly growing up alone but knowing his purpose or how to speak always bugged me. Shouldn't realistically Knuckles be like how Sticks is potrayed in Boom?
And Sonic and Shadow having a connection over both losing someone important to them, with Sonic himself relating to what Shadow went through, is much less contrived than the games, where Shadow is motivated by fake memories and convinced by this random girl just pleading to him.

The only character I feel is somewhat inferior is Tails. I think I still prefer the original backstory over him being Jimmy Neutron.

So you only play video games that you consider "perfect"? If anything that's how you get locked to playing the first game you enjoyed and never trying anything else. And how do you even know that you find them perfect before even giving them a chance first hand? When I actually, finally played 2006 and Unleashed I found that there were things I didn't know about that I enjoyed, or didn't know I was going to enjoy, and also some things that I didn't know I was going to dislike. It is much more nuanced than you're making it out to be. When I'll be done enjoying these games, I'll enjoy some other games (and maybe from time to time even go back to the things I like from the games I've already played). I think this is the most reasonable and sane approach instead of making yourself miserable waiting for your "ideal Sonic game" that will never exist. I am a fan of this series, so I'd rather enjoy the games that exist, instead of crying about "missed potential" all the time. There is no advantage to closing yourself off like that, especially to the works of developers you already know you enjoy

I haven't played the PC version yet, so I want to trust that Kishimoto at least managed to put in some fun 2D platforming given that I enjoy Colors. But every other aspect is very bad. It's crazy that this game has a 3DS version with all the same flaws AS WELL as complete dogshit gameplay, controls, power ups, and level design. People who say Sonic 2006 is one of the worst games have never touched Lost World 3DS, they have no idea how bad things can actually get. I doubt they've played Classic Sonic in Forces either, that might be even worse, his final stage in the game is complete garbage and worse than literally anything in 2006. At least the rest of Forces is decentish

I played Sonic Labyrinth and I can conclusively say imho that 06 is still the worst Sonic game.
At least Lost World can run properly and doesn't crash or get stuck on loading screens every 3 or 4 hours. Most people nowadays play 06 on an emulator which makes the loading times faster and prevents crashing for the most part.

None of you guys played 06 on launch day with original 360 hardware and it shows. Yall are spoiled.

No. The pacing is really bad as it kept showing flashbacks and besides a few nicely animated fight scenes it's just so boring overall. Sonic is also very insufferable here

There are some things 06 did that I liked. The cutscenes were weirdly very well shot and co-ordinates the mocap was uncanny at times but did give some of the scenes more personality. It was good that ST at the time was seemingly trying to get Shadow to move on from past trauma and take control over his own destiny rather than living for the past. Mephiles could have been a Darkseid level threat in the universe if treated better and Solaris is a cool concept for a villain.
I'm sure I could try to remember other tidbits of stuff I like but the vast majority of everything else is garbage tho.

SA1 and SA2 were Iizuka's passion projects. Iizuka was the one who conceived of it as a "Sonic RPG". And the inspiration from games like Final Fantasy 7

Heroes nearly killed Iizuka and he was inspired by Jak II to make Shadow. That's two games he worked on which were critical flops and were victims of the Sonic cycle.

Heroes was so rushed Iizuka slept at the office and nearly died making it and the team at STI was burned out and barely cared making Shadow. Development moved back to Japan for 06 and SR and Iizuka became less involved.

In a way, Xbox is a continuation of the Dreamcast. Sega had to switch from a SA1/SA2 proprietary engine to Renderware to get Heroes running on a PS2 because Sony effectively forced them at gunpoint. Shadow, on the other hand, was made by an indifferent team with no passion left. Iizuka was phoning in here

Heroes got crunched so badly Iizuka (who was the level designer for Heroes) stopped eating for weeks until he got his part of the project done. Shadow the hedgehog exists because he played Jak III while recovering and learning how to eat again. Naka didn't care anymore either, having been reduced to an executive producing or chief producing many games per year, his days as programmer behind him

This is a fair response, and I do not mind late replies. Personally I enjoyed it, although that depends on the stage and character. Some stages and characters are awful. I think Sonic's stages are solid for the most part, especially after getting the upgrades and getting used to maneuver around the glitches (just like in Sonic Adventure lol, people are so used to the glitches there that they understate how hard it is to enjoy for first time players)

From Adventure 1 to Black Knight, the games were regionally consistent. There were occasional miscommunications, but Sonic Team overall took pride in cleaning up the canon.
Colors, especially the Wii version, was a writing experiment. It was humor-heavy, but not all the jokes translated (yen conversion rates? what?). Hence Pongraff. Generations was mostly played straight, but some of the "we gotta localize the cartoon humor" mentality carried over to Lost World.
Meanwhile, you have self-aggrandizing writers in inflated egos over at Archie, dealing with their own issues in their small corner. Ian saw a way to worm his way in (get his sycophants to astroturf SoA on his behalf) over the dwindling reception of the tiresome so-called 'meta-era'. Basically weaseling through IDW to get to Frontiers. Frontiers was so bad that the Japanese tried to fix up, bit by the time they caught wind of Ian's script they already timed all the animations so they they said fuck-it and made their final draft JP-exclusive, essentially reintroducing 90's-esque continuity segregation into the series (TailsTube would later shit over Ian for his idiocy here).

The biggest problem with two of the recent arcs of the Sonic comics is that a lot could've been avoided if the characters just TALKED to each other. Meta-wise, the writers of the comic (Ian, Evan) also have the same problem, resulting in plots that don't mesh well with each other.

The reason why the comic's writing sucks is two-fold yet near-identical, and I think the writers are unknowingly projecting their problems into the comic itself.

I did my research. Tails and Amy were never planned to get married. Amy was never planned for Mobius 25YL at all. Whoever that Tailsmy poster is (Violet?) is outright lying. There is no source on the internet for this at all.
In fact, it appears Karl Bollers (Creator of Mina) did not like that chapter at all.
Mina was chosen for no other reason than having green eyes and super speed. that's all that Penders has said on the matter.
There's also a common claim that it was meant to be Fiona. I will have to check.

There were TWO villains (a mob boss and a mole) that the good guys knew about and had prior experience with. I don't know that much about Dragon Ball, but from what I saw and remember about those characters I doubt they ever got the equivalent of being constantly featured and playable with unique gameplay in every major game up to that point, as well as defeating one of the biggest and strongest villains while being treated by the story as equivalent to the protagonist. Silver was the newcomer, and making the newcomer cool is series tradition. He has to go Super Silver because the newcomer before him was Shadow and they just had to try to outdo that, while Tails and Knuckles managed to be cool and popular on their own
All this complaining did was prevent them from being playable for so long. I hope we get a new playable character in the next 3D game. Preferably male since we got so many female characters lately
