Most ascendancies transform your character so little that there's no actual difference between running a build on the optimal one and a suboptimal one except performance. Playing the weaker ascendancy in these cases is strictly a flavour choice or contrarianism which aren't exactly a difference in fun. Odds are the deadeye version of the build you're on is actually just the same thing with better QoL unless you're either on a tactician mortar set up or a WH weapon swap set

This is really the big issue with ascendancy design. It feels better to play a bottom tier ascendancy in PoE1 than to play a tier 2 ascendancy in PoE2. Almost none of them have any cool toys

Look on craft of exile and see where %phys rolls (prefix versus suffix) and then use currency + the new abyss items to desecrate. There are some new omems that make desecrations only roll on one or the other. Use higher tier currency for better early rolls. Its not 100% guaranteed but you can control for a lot now.

okay I'm now at the point where gearing up has significant diminishing returns, I've got a +3 amulet, +4 scepter with %spirit, a +3 Lightning Sunsplinter and my helmet is Alpha's Howl for +100 spirit/doubled presence.

To actually elaborate on this point, I think this guy is kinda right. In PoE1 I feel like the "downside" ascendancy nodes were way fewer. Classes like Slayer and Juggernaut just straight out had giga powerful Ascendancies with no drawbacks. Granted the only 2 Ascendancies I've tried in POE2 has been Infernalist and Lich but it's really odd how Lich has to either nuke their own mana or ES for dmg while Infernalist Demon Form is impossible to maintain without giga investment into minmax gear. It's unsatisfying getting such an annoyingly small powerspike compared to stuff like Slayers giga culls or Juggernaut getting infinite endurance charges and borderline invulnerability to physical dmg.

The poison doesn't get removed from the vine arrow, and you can shotgun the AoE from the poison being removed over and over again.

there's also plenty of passives to buff pickup range, effect and chance to not consume.

if you actually play around them properly, they're really powerful
