The only thing that rewards mashing strings is your lackluster defence.
Anyway, string tracking is a normal tekken thing and has been there even in the games with le good movement (like t6 and tag2), your fault for not learning the counterplay and bitching on 4chan instead.
Also, tag1 (and possibly tekken 3) dont even have tekken sidesteps as you cant ss block in them and sidesteps are highly commital, but I dont think that holds any meaning to you unforunately.
