I'm hoping it's a positive sign. Generally, the people actually funding/paying for the show are the ones with the most influence. So even though Square is consulted as a Producer, I don't think they'll have as much power/influence because they're probably too cheap to fully finance the show.

They have to pay for the creation of a game like DE, but I doubt they paid the majority of the cost for the show. Even for something as big as the animated Mario movie, Nintendo only co-financed it rather than paying for it all.

So for LiS live-action it's potentially Amazon-MGM that are actually paying for most of it. If so, the hope is that those execs would give Charlie more freedom over things than Square's micromanaging BS.

Watching the Michel & Luc interview right now, at 38:01 they do confirm the skateboard scenes being cut due to budget reasons, how they had to "reduce some content" in Tape 2 due to that and how Corey's arc leading to his possession was impacted, and how they originally planned to have Kat's actual parents to show up at the concert and in Tape 2 in a very early concept for the game but ended up being background and mostly Dylan and Corey replaced them

I can see it working if Max chooses one choice, sees it leads to a bad outcome, then rewinds to get the good outcome. For example, she fails to save Kate from suicide but, unlike the game, she rewinds back to say the right thing. This only works if there are morally unambiguous outcomes though.
I also think forcing Max to accept her initial first decision can add dramatic effect. Whether it is because she loses mental fortitude, doesn't want to cause the storm, or whatever else.
I would also like to see Max's life as an individual more. Like her doing normal every day things unrelated to her learning how to control her power or her role as a superhero. Have her playing around with her power to pull a prank, or her coming back from class to her dorm during the month before she got her power would be interesting.

That's the mystery in all this. The contract was likely signed back in 2016. It's possible that when selling the rights that Square would have tried to hang on to some input to avoid 'brand damage' (ironic given they're the ones who fucked up the brand).

But 2016 was a long time ago and back then the execs were maybe not the paranoid micro-managing group they are now. So we don't know what they would have negotiated into the contract back then.

But Dj2's lawyer guy (Simon Pullman) seems pretty smart and doesn't seem the type to help buy IP rights if those adaptation rights come with a bunch of unbreakable handcuffs.
