All of those things happened because in the 90s and early 2000s the game market was a more niche thing, now it has overtaken all media, you make more money from games than with movies, and so this attracted a lot of people who only care about money and don't give 2 fucks about the games themselves.

These people only want to maximize profits, and how do you do that? By getting as many people into the game as possible, but you can't do that if the games have any skill requirement, that's why you got all this casualization going on.
The fix for this are indie games, but that's not what we are seeing, what we are seeing is that these dumb mother fuckers who have no incentives to take the decisions big corpos do, still take the same decisions and make dumbed down games.

Continuing a discussion I had in another thread but… after playing the Tokon beta myself I’m surprised by how homogenized the available roster is…

Everyone feels very same-y. The complete opposite of what I experienced with 2XKO. And after seeing Blitzcrank and the level of character and uniqueness jampacked into his kit, I definitely have to walk back my rush judgement I made when I saw the Tokon trailer.

Is Tokon bad? Absolutely not. It’s pretty, excellent presentation and polished.

But I think a lot of us were expecting Guilty Gear levels of character uniqueness and Tokon (at this point) feels even safer than DBFZ in terms of homogenized characters. I know someone is going to bring up the “it’s only been a day, wait until people lab yada yada…” I’m sure people will find more COMBOS. But you labbing won’t just invent sauce (character kit variety). The characters play the way they play.

What do I do if I feel like I'm too mentally slow for fighting games? How should I even approach these games fundamentally? I may as well be mind blank and brain dead half the time I play these games, that's how much I blow dick. I'm trying to ply Street Fighter EX2 (I know, old game, who plays that), and I'm just getting raped and can't really fathom how to do it. Starting today I'm gonna try and just sit down and grind ranked, focusing on the stuff I want to implement, and not focusing on just getting the win. Right now I theorize that's what it takes to level up my fighting game processing speed, just hours and hours of uninterrupted matches against equal level opponents.
It's all well and good if I can do shit in training mode, but if I lose the nerve to do my most easy of hit confirms and anti-airs in an actual match, that means fuck all, that's why I think grinding ranked matches is the only way forward right now, I think It's just a matter of inputting enough data into my brain from playing against other people for it to start processing these things better.

I feel like I need to get into the mindset that I am going to lose to trash players because I am one, I'm going to sink a lot of time into ranked and It won't look so impressive that my scrub-ass put 2000 hours just to get good, but none of that shit matters as much as just improving.

What's a good pad to use (if any) for fighting games, and how do you use yours? For the longest time I've used tip of my thumb but I think that actually makes me less efficient, but xbox controllers are small so if I set the area below my knuckle on the dpad my thumb pushes the right stick, the slight pressure of the stick pushing against the tip of my thumb and the sense data I receive from that throws me off, it's minorly, but significantly irritating.

I tried to give KI2013 a chance but I ended up giving up on it. Took me a while to realize I didn't like the game.

People who like it tend to be hardcore glazers who won't hear anything bad about it but the game itself feels pretty jank and the comboing system is so unintuitive it basically forces you to relearn how to play fighting games. Not only that but every character is "quirky" in a bad way, since season 2 all the characters have weird unique mechanics that don't gel with the way the system was originally designed and it shows, like a lot of the characters in the middle of and after season 2 have a shitload of new meters and things that didn't fit within the confines of the instinct/shadow system they built. Like Eyedol is a stance character who is 'schizophrenic' and will randomly switch between melee and zoner stance and you can self-damage to increase the chance that the other stance will activate. It's questionable, ridiculous and of course, Californian game design.

People also like to talk about the music but I honestly think there's only like three or four listenable tracks and the rest of them suck. And also I hate the way they did Kim Wu in this game.
