When you're evaluating a parent for an ace in the upcoming CM, you should compare the value of 3* over 2* (i.e. ~20 in the relevant stat) with the value you're getting from other sparks. I just go by feel at this point so I forget the specific details but 'Umamusume is wit game' is no joke. Wit affects many things such as your target speed at any section of the race. Which means very X amount of seconds, the game makes a wit check to determine target (max) speed for each phase of the race. This is why you often see very high stat umas falling behind early and mid race due to low wit, often ending up blocked or in a less than ideal position for final spurt.

I believe it also affects some other things like Uma behavior in general, and most of the bizarre ways in which the game can screw you up are related to low wit. Don't member all the deets rn but it's in the reference doc.

The thing with all that is that you can go front and statcheck even with the wit debuff cause it's harder to get blocked even it your uma fails every check. Front is the least RNG-dependent style whenever you can just steamroll the opposition with sheer stats like in career mode, though it tends to fall off late game in career unless you're giga overpowered, as skills become more common and more useful.
