Since Konami is never making another single player video game, I have decided to take up a side project in which I will create my own pocket Yugioh dimension to larp in using my vast IRL card collection.
It will be played in a similar way to DnD so the power of imagination will be pivotal. I'll create my own campaign, world, characters the decks they'll use, lore and progression path.

Here's how this works:
>4 month long tournament, spanning from the 7th of September to the 18th of January (20 rounds), with the Top 4 Finals taking place on the 25th of January
>you can join at any point in time during the duration of the tournament, just message me on Challonge and I will add you
>a single round will be held each weekend
>we will be using a very basic leaderboard system, as Challonge doesn't really support something like this too well
>BO3 matches, match wins and byes net you 2 points, match losses net you 1 point and no shows give you nothing
>2 no shows in a row will result in a disqualification
>matchups will be randomized each week, as allowing new players to join all the time messes with any automated round systems
>send in lists each week via Challonge dms or via e-mail to dngcup@proton.me
>you are allowed to change decks between rounds
>we will be using the most recent TCG banlist and the PRERELEASE card pool
>300 second turn timers, no reason for a time limit on rounds as it's only 1 round per week

A proto example of one of the progression branches-
There will be a massive quarry you travel to in which the rusted remains of large machines (Infinitracks, and this is where you would face a character using an Infinitrack/Earth machine deck) which were used to rip up and terraform the earth before they suddenly became inactive, it would seem they hit something, the entrance to a large cave system.

The entrance is adorned with obelisks, and a guardian (Who uses G-Golems)that will need to be defeated to proceed further in. Further in will be an excavation team of archeologists who are studying a strange phenomenon (a humming or buzzing) that seems to be originating from down in these caverns which further in open up into a glistening treasure trove of gems and colored stones, some of which containing the preserved bodies of petrified creatures from ages old (battles here will be between some users who use Fossils and Adamancipators).

Further in will be strange guardians of animated humanoid gem creatures who deny entry to the heart of this subterranean crystalline gorge. Fractured earth and deep fissures that are seemingly never ending permeate this section of the cave and the only thing that can be seen when looking down into these abyss's is the glowing, humming gems jutting out of the earth as far as the eye can see, like a thorn or a malignance.
Gem-Knights and Crystron users are fought in this area.

Finally, we come to the anterior chamber, the senses are assaulted by the maddening humming of the crystals. The origin of this sickness of the earth finally visible, the singularity gazing out, a spiral of crystals spidering out away from it in a fractal pattern.

And thus, this is where you would duel Primite the Primordial guardian dragon and then ultimately Tistina, the source of the taint.

Probably should have discussed this before the tourney, but is it fair to have byes score you a whole 2 points? There's no automated system in place to resolve tie breakers and whatnot. At the same time I feel it's unfair to give any less than 2 to someone who got bye'd due to an uneven number of participants.

You can top with literally anything in edison, people have topped with evil heroes.

I'll give the new Yusei SD this: they make the solitaire version of the deck a lot more consistent. Now the only issue is if you can draw Converging Wills in time to get the Majestic stuff running, especially if you start with Stardust Synchron since you get a lot fewer draws off Hyper Librarian. You can make the 4Ds endboard of Cosmic Quasar, Shooting Quasar, Cosmic Blazar, and Stardust Sifr every time, it's just getting the fifth dragon that's inconsistent.

I'm starting to wonder if THIS is what they balance the protag decks around: literally playing with yourself, taking out all handtraps and staples and trying to make the biggest in-theme board you can get. Jaden, Yuma and Yusaku's decks are also good for this.

Currently running 3 Fullspeeds, 1 Supersonic, 1 Scrap Synchron, 1 Synchro Fellows, 1 Oneway, and 1 Scrap Warrior. It's been fun adjusting the ratio of starters and the shit I need to draw into to get a Majestic on the board, it makes the solitaire experience more varied. All the drawing you do makes a big difference compared to Jaden.dek where you get 4 draws max or Yusaku.dek where everything depends on your opening hand.

NS Fullspeed Warrior is full combo, and makes you FEEL like Yusei. NS Stardust Synchron is much more cope in comparison, but at least it's easier to search. I think my only complaint is that I wish I had just one more ED slot. If you open with Stardust Synchron you'll still have Fellows' extra NS Junk Synchron available at the end of your combo if you couldn't draw into Majestic. Junk Synchron bring back Junk Converter -> Junk Warrior -> Junk Warrior + Jet Synchron = Stardust Charge Warrior... and then that's it. It's A Stardust monster at least, but it feels very underwhelming. I hope they release some support that lets you turn that Charge Warrior into something more impressive.

You want a custom format that's actually good that doesn't restrict you to playing decks from 20 years ago?

Here's how it's done (and I'm going to post the most contentious point first to filter close-minded fags ASAP)

>Side deck is gone, reduced to atoms.
>Custom banlist, actual genuine broken cards are banned, so things like VFD, infinite material card like Level-Eater, handripping like Delinquent Duo, Forceful etc etc and just broken cards in general like Painful Choice, the usual, you know what I'm talking about.
Cards that can return are things Konami banned not because they're broken but because they were support for old archetypes and they were very cheap and affordable and took some games from the new archetypes that they were trying to shill. So cards like Circular, Branded Fusion, Naturia Sacred Tree, those can all come back to 3.
>New cards added to the banlist, cards that turn games into non-games, lingering floodgates that instantly win games by themselves, Lancea, Shifter, Droll, HFS, Dimensional Barrier, Charmies etc etc.
>Top 8 decks in the OCG (because we shouldn't need to wait multiple months to play archetypes on our digital sim) are temporarily banned from being played until they fall out of the top 8 spot, even if they do so naturally without any hits on the banlist. Once they've fallen out of the top 8, they're legal to play.

That can all be achieved on a sim like Edo.
Set the games to Bo2. Have our own custom banlist that we can keep records of. Disallow the use of the side deck and the top 8 OCG archetypes and that's that.
New format separate from the current metafaggotry, no coinflip reliance, better banlist not based on Konami's greed and incompetence. Gay lingering floodgates killed off.
Only thing we'd be missing is a way to prevent the usual 'game is over after a single battle phase' shit.

That said, I also feel like I'm too stupid for Yusaku.dek. Once you get the combos down, Jaden.dek is braindead because it's just getting to the starters for each individual HERO sub-archetype and playing out the combos. The only interesting part is keeping track of your polys to ensure you can make DPE and Chaos. Yusei.dek is also straightforward, there's just the tension of potentially drawing all your Stardust Trails early on in the Fullspeed route and crashing or not seeing any Majestic stuff and having to end in a flaccid 4D board.

Meanwhile Yusaku.dek has so much searching and revival going on, and tons of room for generic Cyberse support to boot. Jaden and Yusei hit 40 cards easily with their engine. With Yusaku, everything you need to hit the u-link endboard gets you to ~25, leaving you ~15 free slots to work with. And there is a LOT of Cyberse goodstuff out there.

Not quite anon. Infernity gets a lot of flak for winning worlds that year, but it's rather average by HAT standards. It's rare it gets to a multiple rank 4, Barrier + multiple infernity breaks board, especially on turn 1 when that type of board would matter most. Same with the HAT deck itself, the format is named for it but everyone knows its tricks and most decks have hate for Artifacts and the like, you cover their NS Myrmeleo with a breakthrough skill, that same BTS covers the Moralltach on your turn. It feels very nice to play.

Adventurer Synchron is at full power in OCG. The new support while being overall mid, does it make easier to synchro climb. I wouldn't rule out of being a good rogue in OCG.

I'm one of the people who posts it.
One of the main reasons why I would be fine with the OCG cards but pissed at the TCG cards is the context in which they are made.
OCG making Treasure Panther is making a generic support card for a VJUMP promo around the same time as importing a set.
TCG on the other hand is making generic cards to support dogshit like Libromancer 3 years after its release when it is absolutely fiending for some form of actual support and instead you get a bunch of unsearchables that barely help the deck.
I'm pretty sure basically everyone who plays a TCG-original deck would much rather actually get archetypal cards to help the deck.

They should have all had effects that lock you into summoning only on theme cards and generic type and attribute support the moment they became anything more than loosely tied cards with similar names and art. HAT would suck without Soul Charge. It's one of the defining cards of the format and one of the ways the game doesn't devolve into stallfests. You can't convert the bodies into an instant win going first since the extra deck options are fairly limited and mainly focused on tools that break boards instead of locking a board down and making it unbreakable. It's really only the rank 5s that provide proactive defense going first and there are very few decks that can actually make use of them (Constellar is pretty much it) since the level 5 options are mainly Artifacts and stuff like Cyber Dragon. So while Pleiades is a motherfucker and basically a modern power level card it's extremely rare to see him made on turn 1.
HAT without Soul Charge would be far too slow to be very fun. It would be Artifact variants, Spellbook, Bujins, and some weaker Geargia builds with no other viable decks since other decks would lack the inevitable explosivity required to break the resource grind presented by the control decks. You'd also lose a lot of the cooler variants on Artifact Traptrix that capitalize on Soul Charge as a way to present inevitable checkmates. It would be like Edison but the only viable decks are Ryko/Hamster/Caius piles.

Infernity isn't even good in HAT. People have realized Maxx C as a baseline Upstart and chump blocker after Soul Charge with the upside of telling combo decks to sit down for a minute while you set some trap cards makes it a great filter. Mermail is a more fearsome deck than Infernity since it doesn't need to touch itself for five minutes to present a meaningful turn 1. If you get Maxx C'd you can set something like Sphere and restart your advantage cascade on the opponent's end phase.

You don't play the format and it shows. Soul Charge isn't free and Sylvans/Infernity aren't even that good. Sylvan is better since it has better card quality and can roll with what the opponent throws at it but even then turboing out Felgrand or sitting on 2800 and 2600 beaters isn't amazing. What Soul Charge does for the format is give inevitability to midrange decks that really like being able to peel through control boards using cards like 101, Exciton Knight, Blackship, and Pleiades (if you're an Artifact deck). It sets the pace of the format and makes it feel like an actual card game where threats get bigger as the game goes long. It also gives the format a tangible resource outside of just cards in rotation. Managing LP is a huge skill factor.

I think this is an unpopular opinion here but I hated HAT format.

Branded right now feels like a deck that is stuck between turbo fusion plays and chaos synchro-fusion plays and the signs of its conflicted get way more clear when you look at the cards branded originally had.

Branded originally was used for Dogmatika for ritual plays and set up for fallen of Albaz as a potential board breaker, Titaniklad the ash dragon for example. But obviously, “Fallen of Albaz” quickly was discarded from the deck afterwards… up till the branded final battle occurred and they decided to turbo shill fallen of albaz. Which is why the recent Dogmatika support doesn’t have locks for its new main deck monsters.

Despia was the first archetype to center itself on the branded spells/traps. But… Fallen of Albaz wasn’t designed for the deck till later on. So you end up with despia having masquerade, that quem fusion thing, and that dragon statue as the deck’s only three fusions, as they make way in favor promoting “Fallen of Albaz” fusions that none of the despia cards were honestly designed for. Which is why people only use Aluber and despian tragedy out of the pure five main deck despian monsters. And why they never designed a proper despia monster ever again. In many branded builds today, they are nearly considering cutting out the despia cards entirely. And realistically, if they make a new branded spell/trap searcher that becomes “fallen of Albaz” on the field or in your hand or GY, Aluber and tragedy would be cut out completely.

And then you have the rank 4 and rank 8 days in which they considered mixing Albaz and Shrouded Albion together with that deck, and it totally flopped. Bringing Springans Kitt to existence.

The incredible Ecclesia was the first branded tuner designed with synchro-fusion plays in mind, with the golden swordsoul being made to special summon her after banishing a card. Was far better in swordsoul than for branded, making it completely abandoned till about recently. But no one wants her in their hand.
