As far as emulation quality, goes, yeah. There's no way it goes further than what you get on PC and in many ways it's not as accurate because the DE10's too potatoey.
As far as lag and 15khz TV functionality goes, it is the real deal. It matches my OLED+VRR+1frame ahead setup without the asterisks of run-ahead on my CRT and it handles mode switches better than emudrivers to a TV. If you're not using a CRT-TV, there's basically no point, though. You can also pair it with a PC and use it as a LAN video card to your TV. This gets you super-low latency with all the accuracy/CPU power benefits of PC emulation.

Numbers like that don't mean a whole hell of a lot when arches differ so much, as they did in that era. They're so differently abled with strengths/features missing entirely from one to the other it's nuts. GC is more powerful on the whole but PS2 can still draw alpha and polygons like a mofo.

What in the hell are you talking about? Go back. I don't care about any of that and post nearly exclusively here. 6th gen consoles were all basically lightyears from each other in hardware differences. There was a general sliding scale of power from PS2, GC, to Xbox, sure, but GPU features varied yugely and they all sucked at doing one or two things the other could do.

(cont.) because they were so different, and because devs were under crunch to warp the same game to fit on each -- and were dealing with early 2000s workstations and tools -- the end products were bad ports that didn't paint the whole picture on console capabilities as well. They did get better toward the end of the generation, though.

Day 2 in my emulation journey! May it be fruitful. I've wanted to emulate for the longest time and just never bothered to, and eventually just realized I have no excuse not to just dive in. I had an interest, so I persued it. Hopefully I can learn more about computers doing this because I've been inept for the longest time. I have learned a couple of things, but when I learn about things it's a repeating cycle of "I'm figuring things out" and "I know absolutely nothing". I think I have a low IQ.

Only a couple of indirectly related things so far, but as for what I don't know in general, well, I kind of lose sight of what I do know and then feel a bit lost again. It could be a mindset thing. There's only 1 roadblock I've arrived at so far, which I spoke of in the last thread, and that was turning an ISO into an XISO for XEMU. Anon's told me of an online xiso maker thing, and I got an XISO file from it (or at least a file with that extension), but it refused to run, so I don't know what's up with that. I won't ask further questions about it though. I'm making a commitment to (or trying at least) to learn as much as I can myself until I run into a wall.

Thanks. I'm a bit of an idiot for not checking there, but I'm guessing that the file I had titled ISO was actually already in the state it needed to be to run, it just wasn't titled with the extension .xiso so it didn't know how to read it, and perhaps this is why the converter/extractor (I don't realy know what it was to be honest) wasn't giving me a usable .xiso. The emulator told me a couple of different things depending which version I put in, one of which was the emulator mistaking it for a DVD. Anyways I fired up Ninja Gaiden and, save a few stutters it ran pretty great, more or less like I've experienced it on an actual console.

Speaking of mapper compatibility, NintendulatorNRS supports nearly all of them. If you go to PPU > Emulate All PPU Quirks, it will score a point higher than Mesen. Once enabled, it will pass the "PPU RESET FLAG" test, but this is disabled by default because some pirate multicart menus don't play nicely with that function.

I do have a question out of curiousity. Is it typical for people to title their files with a ".xiso" included to get the iso to work? I didn't realize there was a show extension thing, it should have been obvious, I just never thought about it because I always thought it just showed you those extensions for some reason, which kinda doesn't make sense because I look at the files, but I don't know. They work as isos but not without the .xiso in the filename section.

Well I'm realizing now maybe the file I used that worked was from the online .xiso thing, and maybe there was a confusion becasue I had multiple files for it. I ran the the Black version of Ninja Gaiden, and that one didn't work simply from a retitiling, instead I got the same problems as I did before with the 04 version of Ninja Gaiden, but when I put it through the online .xiso thing it gave me a file that worked. I might be confusing things.

I don't know, emulation feels overwhelming for me, and I think it might be better to get a Switch 2 and pay for NSO to access GameCube games instead of using an illegal pirated copy on Dolphin Emulator.
We should support publishers and developers, as without them, we wouldn't have games in the first place. It's important to follow and uphold U.S. laws on this matter, regardless of whether we are American citizens or not. Our poor practices harm the U.S., especially since many publishers and developers are based there.
At the end of the day, you can make your own choices, but when facing justice, remember that you were warned. I genuinely want the best for each and every one of you.

I always wonder why people even believe this mentality. Most people from the 6th generation and before don't even work in the gaming industry anymore besides a few "auteurs". And one or two people don't carry the quality of a whole game from a AAA company. They're all mostly shells of their former selves, so the money isn't going to anybody you would want to support if they made something 20 years ago. Is it just some easy moralistic shit to convince yourself without thinking about it? Why are people like this?

Maybe it was a bad batch. I doubt this disc had the QA of a typical release. Sadly I don't have a Saturn and likely no one will be willing to try it. Something that happens on all emus does put it into question, though. The Mister Saturn core is at least as hacky as any PC emulator, if not more.

Depends on your resolution, but I typically don't fuck with the triads. Sigma/scanline strength, however, is worth fooling with. Generally, you want white/bright colored scanlines to glow into the next a bit more than darker ones. Notice in

Sixaxis or Gyro works well for Wii emulation. I used to emulate the Wii Motion Plus using the Steam Controller's Sixaxis and its right trackpad as the WiiMote's pointer. Using gyro as a mouse for lightgun games, I managed to beat Snatcher by utilizing the Sixaxis as the MD Justifier... Gyro as Joystick to emulate Namco's NeGcon...
The Steam Controller is amazing and incredibly versatile, but its steep learning curve is likely the main reason it failed. It seems to cater to enthusiasts while being too challenging for casual users. It's surprising that there are no videos on YouTube truly showcasing its full potential.
To be fair, the DualShock 4 V2 is pretty solid, but the trackpad isnβt great, and itβs missing dual-stage triggers. Still, itβs not too far behind if youβre willing to experiment with unconventional setups that might suit your style.
My SC isnβt "dead," but the gyro drift is too noticeable, and I have to recalibrate it every 3 to 5 minutes... Itβs not worth it, but as a "conventional" gamepad (like an Xbox or GameCube controller), itβs still usable.
I hope Iβm not coming across as overbearing or overly enthusiastic; I just really enjoy sharing and discussing things Iβm passionate about.

Nah that's cool, good explanation. Out of all those uses you suggested, emulating a NeGcon is what has sparked my interest. Also, Wii emulation, but not too much. Is any game good to go with motion control? I ask since the Wiimote's got a very particular shape and is to be handled with one hand (or two) independently. I've never played a Wii game before.
I'm doing a lot of ps2 and under emulation and had to skip motion controller-dependent games for that reason, other than the fact I don't own a motion-sensitive controller, lol.

I had a spare Raspberry Pi 3B+ laying around, so I turned it into an emulation machine for my nephew as a gift. I put Batocera on it and loaded it with a ton of roms. But I recently fucked it up when I tried to overclock it a bit in preparation for some Playstation games. Now it freezes a few seconds after booting up, every time. I don't have a linux machine I can pop its memory card into to change the overclock settings back to normal. How the hell do I set it back to normal without losing all my nephew's save data?

Issalright
It feels very experimental- not very polished but has a lot of neat ideas.
Attacking all comes from a ATB-like system. You build charges over time and spend on skills (or spells).
You can equip weapons but they're all of the same type, but you can swap characters who have different weapons types and abilities. I just unlocked the Chef girl who can cook.
You get a bunch of Pikmin-like creatures that can cast elemental magic (like at the start of this vid) to train and level up and swap. They also carry quest items like Pikmin.
Missions tend to be varied. Some require some puzzle solving to access an area, or to make a path to carry the quest item. Some are just plain hunts.
The game isn't refined crack cocaine like Monster Hunter is but it's a neat game if you have the time and patience for something that feels strange and unexplored.

>Change Name of Profile to the name of an existing control profile. It requires that you have created and saved a new control profile beforehand in the controller configuration window for the emulated GameCube Controller.
It's just here. All you have to do is create your profile and then copy/paste the name in the proper line in the INI. One minute max to do that.
>In 5.0-8443 and later, you can add a secondary or more profiles, and switch between via hotkey (to be configured under Options > Hotkey Settings > Controller Profile). The first profile will be loaded first upon game launch. The profiles are separated by commas (,) like so: WiimoteProfile1 = Name of Profile, Name of Profile Another, Name of Profile Other.
Even better, you can swamp multiples profile for the Wii. You do not need coding skill for that, just basic reading skill and knowing were your CTRL, C and V keys are on your keyboard.

Yes, and they're correct. The difference is that most UE games will run as fast as the game's cap and host machine allows. No one's gonna emulate these machines to the cycle or bother with timing. It's also not as important on these machines.

i know, i have a bunch of profiles that i can manually switch to in the settings. my question is how to make a game start with the right one automatically
it should be a very simple line you put in one of the two ini fields but the dolphin site and no one here can tell me what it is and if dolphin deserved half its praise it would just let you do it like in retroarch

Someone who understands SDL better than I do:
Is it possible to get gyro working on 3rd party controllers? For example the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 has an SDL config in the gamecontrollerdb, but in dinput mode emulators like RPCS3 and Dolphin can't use it's gyroscope even though Steam can.
Is that just something that hasn't been mapped by the community or is it some kind of limitation of SDL?

The other modes are Xinput, which has no gyro, and Switch input.
I know I can just use Switch mode to get the gyro working, but that locks the triggers to a digital input. Ideally I'd like it to work with both gyro and analog triggers, so I'm trying to figure out if there's a way I can get the gyroscope working through SDL under Dinput, which is what Steam uses for it's Steam Input compatibility for the controller, but I don't know enough about SDL to know if that's even possible to do.

true, especially the ps2's relying so much on interlacing that you basically cannot emulate in shaders makes it too much of a hassle. If you're gonna do native res you need to hook it to a real crt.

Shaders and PCSX2's various deinterlacing algos (and game hacks) can in fact go a great deal in working around its interlacing. Of course there are several other things the PS2 relies on CRT-magic for (generally low resolution, no antialiasing low color depth, dithering) but shaders can help a bit there as well. I won't be a smart-ass, though, I generally do agree that a native PS2 image looks far better on a CRT from some feet away.

Brawlβs got stickers and trophies. Iβm playing "Subspace Emissary." Back in my 20s, I thought it was faggy and lame--too busy being an Xbox 360 dudebro, talking shit in Halo 3 matchmaking. Now, as an old fuck, Iβm diving into crap I was βtoo coolβ to touch back then.
"Subspace Emissary" plays like a Kirby game, but instead of sucking up powers, you swap characters. Itβs a comfy 2D platformer with brawler shit thrown in. Stickers boost stats, like some RPG bullshit. Gotta scrape off the old sticker to slap on a new one, which is kinda dope.
Storyβs decent--a silent movie where Ganondorf, Wario, and Bowser get played like idiots by some mastermind, while Dededeβs just fucking around, causing chaos for shits and giggles. Kirbyβs on his own path, being a badass. He ainβt saving nobody, ainβt out for revenge (like Pikachu), or on some mission (like Samus or Snake). Heβs just doing Kirby shit.
At 56% done, I would say: Brawlβs certified kino. If itβs hated, itβs βcause loudmouth competitive trannies are bitching. Yeah, itβs got some split-second jank, but itβs a Nintendo party game, made by HAL Laboratory, run by the Kirby dude. You gotta be the biggest faggot to cry about a party game being casual. Same as dipshits malding over Fighter Megamixβs balance. The fun was picking Hornet, screwing around with friends, and doing dumb shit, not sweating some serious competitive bullshit.
TL;DR: Melee trannies are just stinky whiners.

I thought it was ok for what it was, but it does play kinda janky, as the Brawl physics are not really made for tight platforming (not that Melee's were either - the platforming segments in Adventure mode didn't feel the best, but at least they were short), not to mention they slow everyone's movement down to account for multiple players, so just moving around feels kinda sluggish.

because he could make his own, and probably wants to see if he can do certain things better/faster. Sometimes people just do things because they can and it's fulfilling for them. If ciggy's to be believed, copying everyone else's work is to blame for Duckstation having a lot of the existing ones problems and its own. Since he's copying the work and not fully grasping it at the same time. Though I think he has added to it in the way of features/peripherals and usability. Ymir's off to a relatively rough start (though already FAR better than Yabause/clones) but if he sticks with it we may have an optimal emulator that doesn't need a 3rd party frontend/sharts and a high end CPU to use. May even get uprezzing at some point.

I've replayed SSE using the PM/P+ mod and I think it's pretty fantastic. It didn't take until using that mod until it kinda made me realize a lot of it's enemy placements and designs encourage you to learn some decent fundamentals of the game. Like how to deal with zoners, approach, etc. It's kinda surprising given you'd think you can trivialize a lot with items but it's not totally guaranteed especially in harder difficulties. Not to encourage shitflinging about melee mechs or modern smash mechs, but for me who enjoys the smash mechanically and not competitively, it helped me appreciate brawl a lot more. (Though I will still seethe about target test being objectively worse)

I grew up as an "SNES kid" and had the game on it. I later played the Genesis version and it's clearly the lead platform and best version of it. Even musically in most cases. Most of those Virgin/Perryjank platformers were way better on MD because the assets were meant for that wider resolution. You get double-stuffed on the SNES ports because everything's wider than it should be because of the pixel aspect ratio and you can see less of it. Granted it's mostly western slop that applies, but still.

Indie games are awful.
They take japanese games and just make homages, but they don't understand what made them work in the first place.
They might look right superficially, but they lack the level design and polish of 90s japanese games, and because they have tiny budgets, the graphics are never as good. Plus they're purposely pandering to nostalgia so they have absolutely no motivation to be innovative with the gameplay whatsoever.

I've completed the Genesis version for science, and this was definitely made for SNES first. (Even down to the resolution, which is normally wider on Western Genesis games.) The Itchy & Scratchy minigame seemed to have worse collision detection when using the plunger. Bartman fares best on Genesis since it lacks all the slowdown the SNES version had. However, a lack of slowdown still doesn't save it from being a lackluster game.

So I decided to re-visit the subject of Pitfall for Windows 95. I think I discovered something: it seems to want to run at 50 Hz or multiples thereof. Since the Fullscreen modes don't work properly, I tried the Double Windowed (640x448) mode in various refresh rates to see which one worked best. My monitor is VRR and is currently set to 120 Hz, and modern 86Box recognizes this and lets you set it to various refresh rates up to 120 Hz with a good enough video card. I noticed 60 Hz and 120 Hz exhibited a lot of tearing, but interestingly enough, 100 Hz exhibits pretty much none, and while it doesn't have perfect frame pacing, it's smooth enough that I can say this may be the best way to play this game. Be sure to set color depth to either 256 colors or 16-bit, though. Any higher, and it'll exhibit massive slowdown.

What's the point of PIII/P4+ performance if you can only emulate a Voodoo? 86Box and PCem are built for the '81-'99 era, mainly focusing on MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 9x, and early graphics APIs like Glide (and maybe DirectX 7, nothing more). The real challenge for the Y2K era (Windows XP, Mac OS X) isn't just the CPU, it's the graphics (and other minor things). Emulating the DirectX 8.1 and 9.0c is requires a new approach.

I think everyone involved knows this. Right now the issue is getting even low-end Pentium II performance is a challenge for anything lower than high-end CPUs. Virtualization would massively lower the barrier to entry and so allow most people to actually be able to run everything up to the hardware/software environment you describe. The period after that is an entirely different story, of course, and will require emulation of higher-end ATI and Nvidia cards.

Lots of games that run on 9x want P3/4 + GeForce/decent D3D performance to run properly. Lithtech games come to mind. System Shock 2. Several late 90s to early 2K titles that run on both 9x and XP. It would be nice to be able to purely emulate these without wrapper and hack hokey pokey. Stop making excuses for PCem's new stewards who can't meaningfully build on it. 86box is all about refinement, not improvement. It's nice but we need more.

Anyone here with a freesync monitor?
I read that freesync struggles to sync on some arcade games due to their unorthodox refresh rate like the mortal kombat games(54.706hz).
Anyone try it?

I like it, anyway. Of note is that it has an earlier Atari 8bit computer version that looks and sounds quite a bit different. The DOS version also supports the Tandy audio/video standard which was a little advanced beyond CGA+PC speaker. Also has a fan remake on PC with simultaneous co op and a few more mini games. Also of note was Williams's abandonment of game development after Bart's nightmare, completely embracing theology instead, and the fact that he died in his 30s from cystic fibrosis.

Lead platform mattered so much back then.
SNES to MD: stretched assets and cropping, greatly reducing horizontal visibility
MD to SNES: color/sound/"mode7" nerfs without the benefit of MD's higher res.

It shouldn't struggle at all. So long as it's within the VRR range of your display it should be perfectly smooth. Make sure MAME is using your monitor's native refresh rate and VRR is enabled in your drivers.
Anonymous

No.539105662
One thing I've gathered about VRR is that you want to force games to use your monitor's highest/native refresh rate any way you can. Through drivers, game settings, or CRU. Some apps/games pick 60hz which eliminates all the benefits. VRR sync only shines if the game is running below your native refresh rate, so a 60fps game on a 60hz display mode makes it moot.

Some will argue the frame pacing may be slightly better on gsync chip displays but in my experience they act about the same. HDMI2.1 card+display combos all handle VRR very well too.

Environmental activists should be decrying console exclusivity. I think there's a lot of overlap between Nintendo fans and armchair environmentalists. There's no good reason consumers should need to own more than one videogame playing machine. Nintendo is basically saying "you should need to buy our videogame machine made from earth's limited resources even though you already have a more powerful videogame machine because... because we deserve to make a lot of money okay!?!?!" And somehow people who care about the environment support this business.

>Any chances of Switch 2 emulation happening?
doubt it. Nintendoβs a master at Jewish tricks and will probably sue anyone who tries messing with their stuff into bankruptcy and slavery. But thereβs a chance a hyper-smart guy like gdkchan could pull it off, working from the shadows in total anonymity.
tl:dr
The odds are slim.

Legality means fuck all when you're rich or a giant corporation. You can threaten to sue or sue and drag out the legal process as long as it takes to beat the defendant into either desisting, bankruptcy, or an unfavorable settlement. Remember that the case that made emulation legal still resulted in the company that "won" going bankrupt due to legal costs. And these days, the courts are more corpo-friendly than they have been in decades, so it wouldn't surprise me if the day comes when a case actually goes through and overturns the previous case law.
