At the end of a career, every aptitude you have A in has an equal chance to be the spark you get.
If you want long sparks, run characters with long A. Ideally you want to have as few A aptitudes as possible to improve your odds. Several characters only have 3 - 1 track 1 length 1 style, like king halo, bakushin, or urara.

Sometimes when I get a new follower I promptly remove them just because I know it will make them immensely confused and that's funny to me.

They're completely random, you just need to have A and above on the stat. But, to increase your chances make sure that you intentionally keep all the stats you don't want below A. For example, if you want a Mile Grass Wonder parent you don't want to bump her medium to A.

I'm actually in the process of making a sprint gold ship for shiggles. 12 hours ago some anon said "at least we'll see the end of golshi soon, nobody would bring an end to a mile, definitely not a sprint" which i took as a challenge. I'm combining my 8sprint mayano with a 3 sprint bakushin into a bourbon to try for 17+ stars in sprint, although I'd take 2-3 turf on her too. Then I just gotta send runs till inspirations go my way.
