They did try to remove gear via templates but that brings up a ton of issues (both in relation to being unable to haze newbies and how some specs play).

I always wanted to play a arena fighter that was still world of warcraft, but you control main characters instead of classes.
Like play as Thrall, he has a defined kit with some talent changes you can make. You go into the arena if its a 1v1 and you face off against other main characters for classes (Example Illidan). Let players have very minor talent changes that can modify those heroes game play but not to much. It should still play like wow though otherwise we could enter some slop anime arena situation

group finder custom, there will be groups called CRATE FARM and such. If you have zero conquest, you can be capped in an hour. Combine that with a bloody token weekly and you're gtg.
I love pvp and before SS and BGB I only did random BG's and skirmishes since I hated dealing with forming groups for ranked arenas, but even with how fun random BG's are, farming crates is like ten times faster for conquest/honor cap. It literally takes no effort. You just join the group, they tell you as a RW where the next crate drops, you fly there and pick up tons of conquest, honor and bloody tokens.

What kinda itemlevel do I need to start M+ or raiding at 80? I missed the Undermine patch and feel kinda lost

nightfall scenario is 2 champion pieces one random one other one you pick at an npc with currency you get for the weekly quest
world boss in karesh drops a warband champion piece once a week
you get a quest from doing a t11 delve to do a m+ which gives another 15 gilded
do lfr or story mode dimensius for the quest for a free enchanted runed crest for a heroic craft
craft a 720 weapon or whatever with your first 60 gilded crests
crafting is convoluted but you basically pick what you want at the npc and send a personal order to someone or guild order to guarantee the quality
