Basically, what I got is he's a young and hot blooded person who enjoyed the heat of battle during his adventures. Too much. Always fighting new foes and peaking after defeating Jygallag. With nothing to do now and finding the Shivering Isles boring he heads back to his home in Arborwatch. Now feeling like a lion in a cage. As there's no more battles to fight or quests to take since everything is recovering from the Oblivion crisis. Even then, nothing would be strong enough to contend with him anyway.
