I recently completed Hi-Fi Rush. The game has a deeper combat system, no shit. On the highest difficulty level it is much more difficult than XVI's FF mode. Using cool moves is not limited to holding down the same combination of 2 buttons. The game allows you to call party members into battle and even make joint combos. There is a fully realized air combat compared to the unfinished system of XVI. The last mission is just brilliant, as your friends literally pave the way for you on the level, so that you do not need to prove to the main villain in a monologue that the power of friendship will overcome any adversity: a wonderfully implemented principle of the power of friendship. There are even hints of elemental system, with fire mobs.

Anyway, to return from off-topic to the real topic of discussion. Assuming that Rebirth and Remake do not exist, then I would say that among the newest games in the series, XVI is the worst path forward, the worst foundation to build upon. This will sound spicy, since Barry really perverted people psyches here, but I would rather take XV as a basis and build the future of the series on its foundation. A full team of characters, great chemistry between them, an open world and exploration on various types of vehicles, a truly emotional story with the ending that made people cry and care (even according to the latest poll), a more distinct and memorable style instead of dull medieval slop. All you need to do is take, improve and partially rework the combat system, add depth to the mechanics, add interactivity to the world, more side activities and interesting mini-quests / mini-games, and you will get an ideal FF game. Well, and of course, you also need to give talented writers time to make a meaningful script for the game. XV didn't have that luxury, but it was still emotional, XVI had that luxury, but it ended up being the dullest pontification in the history of the series about the most obvious and stale topics.
We have to forget about XVI and come up with something new, or go back to XV and build the perfect Final Fantasy on it.

I don't know how things are and were with his MMO, but the marketing campaign of XVI and its consequences have convinced me twice that he can't be trusted + he makes fuckin bad games. This was the case with XVI, when we were promised RPG mechanics with that smirk emoji, and as a result we got... some RPG mechanics. It can be assumed that Yoshi-P did not play on our expectations, that it just so happened that XVI came out as a fucking shitty game with practically no RPG elements, build-building elements and character customization, but Yoshi sincerely believed that what was in the game was enough. Let's assume this, but from this it follows that he is just a fool who doesn't understand the spirit of the series. Thus, we come to the conclusion that he is either a fool or a deceiver of expectations.


As for Koichi Ishii, Visions of Mana was good in my opinion. Not excellent, but a solid, cute game. As for Takai, I think he's talented designer of gameplay mechanics. This has been his main specialization in development. TLR has shown that he is capable of unconventional, experimental and deep ideas, but he has problems with their proper execution.

The zones look terrible and the story (written by Matsuno) is dogshit. The first zone, Bozja itself, literally looks like a field of shit. Zadnor, the second zone, at least looks like the surface of the moon, so a little better. It was an improvement over Eureka in a few ways, and a step back in others. If people are praising it, it's probably because you can level jobs in there (you cannot level jobs in Eureka or OC), the duels are pretty cool, the CEs were an improvement over Eureka's NMs, and the "alliance raids" in the zones (CLL and Dalriada) are pretty cool and were something Eureka did not have.

The Switch ports of the PRs is also when they gained the ability to turn random battles off and they got the slider for Exp and Gil acquisition. Personally I liked those changes. However, always dealing 9,999 damage and always having max HP/MP is more substantial of a change and is more in line with the cheats that got added to the PSX Remasters.
