For decades they absolutely did clear everyone in like every fighting game. This is mostly because of the fact they both got the arcade release AND the game release early. Most of the older titles Japan literally had around a year of playtime before anyone else had their hands on the games.

The only jap I can think of that successfuly transitioned specifically from GG to street fighter is Machabo. Other vets either just dont compete anymore like Ogawa or Teresa or are still active like Daru, Nage and Omito. Does anyone know what Sol's BR FRC corner mix combos look like these days? For the low option I know about 22FRRC ~2K > 6P > RWA > c.S > (CL) 623H and 66FRRC ~j.H > MD 2K > 2D > (CL) 623H, but for going high the only thing I know that gets you a wallstick would be 66FRRC ~j.P > j.P > c.S > (dash or 6S kara) (CL) 623H.

I have a tough time hitting my karas in combos but there doesn't seem to be enough reward on any other route off the high that I'm aware of (though I also suck at both low options; it's hard to go from 2K to 6P on pad without getting 236P).

Testament's traps aren't even a significant part of what makes him annoying, at least in their functionality as traps. basically just make it like the color rank system from xrd, you couldn't rank up to orange by beating blues or dark greens, you had to beat light greens and up, to get pink you had to beat yellows and up, beating yellows would take a long time and one loss against a yellow would set you back a lot, so preferably you play against other oranges or pinks to rank up to pink. just port that system over and make it assigned floors instead of colors.
that would've resulted in floor 5 being average and floor 1 actually having people on it, so getting to celestial would have been harder and more likely to be good players.

I often try to air-to-air if they're high up and have already spent some air movement (but it doesn't feel too reliable even when playing someone with good air buttons), and if still have jumps left but are closer to the ground I usually try to 5P instead of anything more committal in case that try to fake me out, but that also feels like it leads to me exploding pretty often (and of course, using 6P and getting faked out also leads to exploding])
