I haven't played RO in 10+ years but randomly remembered the first time I was in that weird teleporter dungeon north of Prontera and warped to a new room only to find a lone knight spamming autocounter(?) and tanking Baphomet.
It made me want to play again but I also remember that the counter knight build required tons of money because leveling as agi+luk (?) meant you got hit often and hard until you farmed or bought enough gear for it, I think?

If you want to go full counter you would need
1. high str for damage
2. Some agi to get the next counter out on time
3. Some int to be able to spam it enough
4. Some vit to survive hits you miss or enemy skills

So I think the stat spread should be okish for leveling, the struggle for good gear would probably come from higher levels, where you are limited by how quickly enemies attack you. At least that will be the main bottleneck in your kill speed.

Paladin is simply in a very weird position.

Damage is forced neutral / holy. Generally this means other classes out damage them when holy isn't strong, and when it is, they typically have stronger skills (or giga autos) that can just be aspersio'd to be holy.
I think Paladin actually is the only proper melee without any real auto attack damage steroid too?

They can tank but... they can't receive Devotion, so they cannot do so effectively in hard content.
Speaking of devotion, last time I dropped by v3 it seemed it's no longer as needed, at least as long as Cube is around. So their most common party function is kinda fading due to the power creep?

On that note, they also didn't get a renewal gear set. The spear + shield combo they did get is not actually an upgrade to existing stuff either as an Anon proved in a previous thread.

There's not much you could do, really. Even with ads running to get some new eyes on the rentry, the v3 of today appeals to a very niche group of people.

As a veteran that left to play other servers / games, I know that balance changes and new toys for classes that got left behind would at least get me to come back for a bit. That stuff is always exciting.

But ultimately... there's just not enough people around to really get any form of "revival" going. You'd need something big. And maybe I'm in the minority, but the rates are just way too low for me to enjoy it as a casual, mostly solo experience, for any longer period of time. Especially after the enchant / need-massive-refine-level stuff got added.

I absolutely hate the enchantment and refine stuff. Especially refine since it's balanced around having huge quantities of enriched ore which v3 does not have. This adds a level of grind that did not exist in pre-re.

And I do not like massive health bloat mobs that aren't interesting in the least, or how hit / flee requirements are completely removed from what classes were balanced around actually achieving in pre-re. All that does is add tedium and limit what classes / builds are viable.

Nor do I like the "new stuff replaces all the old stuff" approach where suddenly tons of gear and maps are just worthless. At least make old stuff have some use.

Especially when it affects boss drops. "Oh cool we killed SM. Too bad all this loot is weaker than the shit I got for free doing renewal quests or by doing low effort renewal maps". Garbage design.

As promised, I've been taking a look at reworking autocast cards in general. I had already tackled some of them at the original release changes(such as Bloody Knight) but now, I have a more complete list of changes.
>Punk: 5% of Lv1 changed to 8% of Lv2, for non-Wizards
>Aliza: 5/10% chance changed to 10/20%
>Grand Peco: The effect will activate on both taking and dealing damage
>Greatest General: The chance for non-Acolytes was increased from 0.2% to 0.5%
>Hatii Babe: Frost Diver replaced by Frost Nova
>Hydrolancer: Chance increased from 10% to 20%
>Maero: The +ATK bonus was increased from 4 to 25
>Metaling: Autocasts Lv5 if mastered

This list is surprisingly small, I was expecting to change a lot more of them. But once I begun actually reviewing the list, I found that the previous changes to autocasts have already pushed many of them towards a point where they no longer need a direct buff.
I mentioned it before but I'll be reworking Bio 3 and Bio 4 drops soon, so look forward to that.

One more thing I'd like to touch right now is the Queen Scaraba Card. Right now, all it does is +30% damage to Scarabas, which is obviously inadequate for an MvP Card. The original effect has to do with adding a chance to drop mercenary scrolls, which is something I dashed out because of the No Mercenaries policy. I gave it a custom effect instead.

In short, it's like a Bloody Knight Card but for Heaven's Drive. Hardly amazing but feels adequate now.
