Sanoba Witch is probably the best Yuzusoft game ever made (or at least in the last 5) because it had actual comedy relief and characters that felt real. It also had the best heroine routes too, mostly thanks to Kanna. I don't regret playing it first. Just remember to skip every single h-scene, especially in Kanna's route.

It's probably more complicated because while the first route is a straightforward drama (in terms of structure), the second half of the game diverges into two completely different routes where everything happens at once. One route is about getting revenge against the antagonist, and the other is about protecting your friends and saving them before the antagonist goes too far. There's a lot of things people say about muramasa, so maybe check out the anime or manga if you're unsure whether it'll fit your tastes. I'm not sure if I can recall specific examples offhand. The ending itself was surprisingly sweet, maybe even tearjerking, which is something that rarely happens in Japanese fiction. A lot of the cast also had character arcs; the heroine who was basically useless throughout most of the story became much more competent by the end. The main antagonist's arc (though I won't spoil any details) was handled exceptionally well too.
As far as the time travel element goes, yeah, the initial setup wasn't exactly straightforward, but they do try to work around it as best they could later on down the line. And honestly, the fact that the series takes place across different eras while still managing to maintain a cohesive overarching narrative is impressive given what's usually done with time travel stories.
