Aftershock is just a label. The real point of aftershock is to tell you that this character will do this move from off field without any extra input. There are two exceptions being:
1) S-Anby who's whole gimmick is that she is the on field Aftershock agent. So she will never come from off field but she benefits for any aftershock specific buffs.
2) Orphie - she has some on field attacks that are labeled as aftershock but in her case, it's really to proc her own abilities and then tag out to do the standard off-field aftershock attacks that don't need your input.

Basically right now, we have one poster child for on-field aftershock (which is the exception and is supposed to be the "point character" for aftershock teams) and everyone else follows the "I'll help too from the back" rules
