Looking back, I do think the downfall of this game really did start when they appeased the realismtroons when they implemented Inertia. You could already see the cracks start to show when they added the weight system but after Inertia, the game really did go down a horrible path. Now 5 years of even more bad changes later, here we are now. This general is fucking dead and the game itself is on it's way out to being fully abandoned. It's honestly sad because I have 5000 hours in this game and it pains me to see something I loved die this way.

i like it but have my gripes, movement is so janky i fear ledges because you character will straight jump them instead of standing on them and shooting over them is kind of a pain, you think it'll go through but you'll hit the ledge instead, same happens with a bunch of geometry. I tried the pvp only mode and it was full of bots sadly and i'm pretty sure the bots there are programmed to look at your and wiggle at round start. Gear/supply runs are plentiful and once you figure out the replicator stuff you can kinda cheese it to get at least basic gear for free, even though i had problems with it, some items say "extract with item" to get replicator progress and yet when i did i got no progress so maybe that's bugged or something. the standard version would be enough to get it imo, the only worth thing you get with a higher package is the character that has 2 body plates slots but i've been using default characters just fine.

I figure they know that it's going to be impossible to really convince anyone to play their game once november hits outside of casuals/poorfags with shit rigs so chuck it out onto a larger platform and see if they can get a bit bigger of a playerbase to retain
the thing is it legitimately isn't a bad experience. I started playing the other week and it really is diet Tarkov. for just convincing mates to get into the genre with something a bit less complex to learn it probably isn't a bad shout. but you can tell whenever they step away from what BSG already established they're a bit clueless. gun designs become fictionalised/greeblfied, the maps clearly don't have nearly the same amount of thought put into their layouts or backgrounds, certain mechanics end up becoming the gameplay equivalent of the appendix, etc.
I don't mind playing it for now just for something different but personally I think it will really struggle over the next year or so to retain any sort of playerbase. same for most extraction games really. I'm pretty sure GZW's next wipe is planned for November, that's going to be a nightmare lol

yeah it's not the tasks that are shit, they really just need to remake how the map is structured. Personally I think the WTP should be in the center of the map, with other lesser POIs surrounding it. Spawns would encircle the whole map. Also, rogues would not spawn on turret lookouts to snipe you from 500m away, instead they would spawn inside of the warehouse buildings. And make rogues aggro to everything by default, none of that pussyfooting for usec babbies

The secure container makes them feel like they cant have a spawn near good loot uncontested but that limits the spawns to much. Lighthouse has an extra problem, you cant spawn a bear at the train yard and force them to fight all the rogues.

That way the key request only really works for people who already bought the game. Thats the thing though, tarkov really isn't "competitive" and that's a pretty a cool thing. There isn't any ranking system and there's no matchmaking. Stats are opaque enough that you really can't tell someone's exact performance from the public view (pmc kills are hidden). Just play the game however you fuckin want and as long as you're progressing a bit along the way then you're basically winning. The only people who treat the game competitively are the mentally ill dudes who do can get kappa in like 2 weeks. And even then their "stats" are sometimes terrible, because they just hatchet run half their raids as they beeline to objectives.

Everyone gets hung up on stats and competitiveness in tarkov but it's really not that kind of game. That mentality turns a lot of people away from the game because they think (incorrectly) that tarkov is like any other game where it's designed to be balanced and you're supposed to be handed a win sometimes.

Just play SPT if you want a more laid back tarkov experience that you can play at your own pace. You can mod many aspects of it to your liking. PvE is fucking trash.
Arena is good for working on fundamental combat mechanics such as movement, peeking corners, etc. If you're good at FPS games in general you'll probably find it fun on its own. I havent played a single raid this wipe but I've been playing arena here and there. It also provides a lot of bonuses for the base game. Ref is still stupidly powerful with the gear he provides.

Poopsockers will always be miles ahead of everyone in any game with progression mechanics. The secret sauce of tarkov will need to be coming up with a way for like 70% of the playerbase to be in a constant state of flux between prestiges. If BSG can properly incentivize an endless prestige loop, the playerbase will always be at varying levels of progression at all times. You'll basically be going through a tarkov wipe at your own pace. Other people will be too, so hopefully even like 2 years into 1.0 being out you'll still be running into people at low-mid levels as they may be on their 2nd or 3rd prestige. Basically the prestige system needs to take over wipes, but BSG needs to give players a reason to do it so that in a year's time the game isn't just 90% of players sitting on infinite money and max gear. That would be absolute hell for anyone new playing the game, which is of course unhealthy for the game long term.

I think it's pretty obvious to BSG that the wipes generate a boost of popularity in the game, they have all the data that shows the population jump up when a wipe happens. It just depends on what they decide to do with that information. I don't think implementing server wide wipes would be the best option, I reaaaaally hope some kind of prestige system is worked out where everyone is resetting their characters to prestige at their own pace. For people like me who don't spend a huge amount of time playing the game, it could take like 1.5 years to actually prestige when going at my own pace. To be clear, the reason it's important that people prestige(reset) is to keep the population in a constant loop of progression, so that when a new player joins the game in say, 2027, they aren't joining an ecosystem home only to max level characters. That gatekeeps new people in a bad way.

I have been playing FPS games my entire life pretty much, and been competitive in quite a few, even ones adjacent in "hardcore" philosophy to tarkov. It took me 800+ hours to even reach a passable level in the game, almost none of my previous skills transferred and I am still like at the absolute minimum thresh hold for skill in this game.
