For pos 4 and 5 you want simple heros that can shove waves, baby sit your carry and have some easy to land stuns.

Good examples are CM, Lion, Shaker. They all got some kind of wave clearing ability, easy to land stuns that can save your carry.

Bad examples are Oracle, no shove, difficult to lane and hard to execute mid and late game. Warlock is alright.

The concept for 3 is similar to 4 and 5 especially at low mmr. You want a hero that can win his lane while also being able to farm and shove waves, I wouldnt recommend slardar but Tide is really good (Centaur is alright). Right now the top meta heroes are Dawn and Axe, I really recommend Dawn because she can join fights with shitty positioning. Go check dotaprotracker for builds.

I dont recommend heroes like huskar for example because despite having easy lanes unless you know what you are doing you cant farm and will fall behind.

The best 3s are the ones that can farm and scale decently on their own, because most of the time your pos 4 will be griefing your lane so you can't rely on them.

These are heroes like Centaur, Axe, and Tide. Dark Seer and Enigma too but they're harder to play.

I play pos3 clock but his biggest problem is like you say, he can't really farm on his own since they nerfed the extra creep damage.
Also playing pos3 in pubs can be suffering, the team will expect you to be active around the map 24/7, always jump in first all while somehow being magically farmed and have lots of EXP.
In reality it will mean you go around without farming having lower GPM/XPM than everyone else, you initiate and die first meaning you won't get any EXP and will be way under everyone else.

Correct but this applies to clock even moreso than something like Slardar or Abaddon. You are literally useless unless you go 6/0 in lane or something.

If you are for some reason playing 3 clock you should be doing that.

it's like melee players, they're very good at a very specific thing but something about wc3 players and dota players make them succeed at more though they often go back to the vortex of their favorite game
