Culminated a set of ups and downs into a satisfying conclusion and showed off just how much your journey accomplished via all the servants who come to your aid and them all working to help clear the way. Doing it on release made it satisfying in how you couldn't just rush through it.
The only thing that really comes close is the Ort bit of LB7 and that's hampered plot wise by it just effectively being you pissing mana left and right to throw shadows, and sometimes Mash, at it as you run.

Honestly, the LBs in general were pretty bleh outside of the feeling of desparation in Atlantis, GOLDEN robot in Olympus and the aforementioned Ort segment.

My favorite chapter, mostly by virtue of being cut off from the storm border for 90% of it. It doesn't have the highest highs but its overall consistency and story quality is the best in my opinion. The worst part is that most of the combat is boring and tedious, with the exception of a couple bosses there's just nothing there. But the selling point of this game has never been the gameplay.

To be fair, it was like a 15 or so voting difference compared to OC3, that should have been coming with more momentum behind, so it's a pretty narrow difference and OC3 didn't make anywhere near the noise of OC2 (literally no one expected LB6 to be bumped off the first place in polls even momentarily). But the thing that people aren't mentioning as well is that OC2 has already shot to 4th at the list of story chapters that people want to see getting animated.

I'd not call it irrelevant considering how much it's been consistently covering the game and getting exclusive interviews and material, specially during the anniversary/summer period where it gets a lot of regular viewership and interest among FGO and TM fans, but it's not the be all end all of these discussions or what the whole playerbase thinks. If it's not statistically significant, at the very least it should point certain trends and general points of consensus from a good portion of the core FGO playerbase (which might still be a minority compared to the mass of casual players).

Nah, I did expect for it to drop a bit which it did. It certainly did not expect for it to remain in the first position above LB6 for long, it already overachieved by doing something no one thought possible to happen by beating the consensus favorite best story chapter of the game for a year, which probably won't ever happen again.

OC3 is a chapter with more momentum like I said, it's more recent and the year it had actually gave it more opportunity for more people to catch up with the story, read it and like the chapter. And I don't think it will turn out as bad as some people complain in here or /fgog/ says, I expect it to be a solid Nasu chapter, with all its typical autisms and pitfals, but not too standout either.

This whole 'recency bias' factor that some people like to mindlessly parrot and yap about is actually a double edged sword really. On one hand new content can have a lot of momentum with it's release, the social media buzz and the whole promotion and surge of art that might be happening, but on the other, there's a lot of people that aren't always caught up with the most recent story (we get story campaigns with reduced AP to encourage more people to catch up all the time), and in that sense an older and more established chapter can have a bigger and more sustained base of people who will vouch for it (the fact that LB7 ressurged on this year's poll above the OC chapters partly points to this sort of dynamics). So it's really a case by case analysis on how something being recent can either be a huge catalyst or galvanizer of success if it hits a perfect storm of factors, or if it it may actually hurt initially as the pool of people who completed the chapter is actually lower than more established chapters which tend to top the polls (OC4 not having a top 5 place in the polls this year seems to have been more hurt with the recency than helped).

I'm aware. More momentum as in the things you'd think it would benefit more from being more recent content and being in the general limelight as far as recent story chapters go, such as having the benefit of more exposure in social medias, being more on the front on discussion places, more momentum on the artist/fanart medium. Just pointing some things which in theory contribute or help garnering perception and bringing fans, and that are part of the momentum push. How much a story chapter benefits from all of that I feel is variable in practice, which was part of what I was touching at in my post.

I think OC3 may actually have benefited more from the extended time it was given since it debuted on the polls. The interlude got added in february so it gave people a chance to read it in case they missed the original limited period or that whole Summer event even. That said it's not so simple because although Archetype Inception had a extended period on the schedule, the chapter being initially released on a limited event frame should in theory hurt its polling. But on the flip side it's the busiest period in the game within that Anniversary into Summer stretch, where a lot of people come back to play the game more actively. So it's hard to say if the frame with which is was released hurt considering the timing. But that has been addressed with the main interlude being released some months later (and putting exposure on the chapter again). You could also say there's a gap in months where it could have had more reading exposure in-game, which is true, eventhough people can read the story on certain channels or other websites as well if they missed the event period.

What I'm trying to say is that polling interpretation and perception can have a lot more nuance, recency can be both a good or a bad thing, whether it hinges more to one or the other depends on a lot of factors, including not only in-game or story merit as well as outside factors.

Another way to answer that question, if we do get a part 3, is that I'm basically really wishing they bring more fresh scenarios than just sitting on old comfort zones such as Arthurian, Japanese or Indian based scenarios, or making stories with a prominence of active characters from such settings.

Norse has been criminally underused for one and there's a seeming insecurity or difficulty executing them for some reason. Nasu was going to write a strongly Norse based chapter in part I but switched at some point (probably for the better considering its overall success) to the Babylonian chapter as we now know for instance. They haven't fleshed out the Celtic or Irish myth in FGO either, there's a lack of exposure and a lot of room there to explore. Louhi was a recent success so they should definitely expand or include a Kalevala/finnish myth scenario. More slavic myths and characters would be good too. I think we need more fresh things, and putting a highlight on groups which could do with more attention and focus.

There's aspects of it being alluded to, and sometimes a singularity might touch on it, but ultimately it isn't a game focused on the modern day earth setting other than the vague goal of not having modern earth destroyed. There are authors which are more engaged with certain mythologies, Minase seems to be the author more responsible for the Indians for example, but there's also some overlap between authors and the characters they typically write, as well as collaboration when writing the chapters. Now Nasu shouldn't be too held by such boundaries, as much as he respects and gives the necessary room for other authors to do their thing. In fact it often feels more like he delegates a lot to other authors.

What I was referring was a piece from the interview on Typemoon Ace where Nasu disclosed this previously unknown information about the development of part I.

I think the whole class suffers from being forced to taking the dive within the franchise, in favour to the protagonism of Sabers in most cases. Look at Karna even, as much as he had his moment in LB4, he jobbed across multiple series too, Apocrypha itself, Seraph manga, Extella Links and probably more that I'm not recalling. The combat instructor there also heavily favours the spear on neutral conditions, and we can see that the dynamic tends to be generally favorable.

The way the Knight class affinity circle works in FGO seems to be run largely on the logic of who beats who assuming they can close the gap. Lancers having an advantage vs Archers seems influenced by the favorable matchup of Cuchulainn against Emiya in the VN and that general idea offered there that Lancers are a class full of agile speedsters who can close the distance against Archers (Cu being presented as a particularly fast type of servant and also very difficult to be hit by projectiles). Having a weapon that can also be a projectile to hit a distant enemy should also factor, whereas Saber is more well rounded and more susceptible to being targeted over large distances.

I don't think it's that easy, specially if you're against a user who will be faster (by the difference in stat distribution and the general wisdom of class' nature), and therefore will know how to control that distance while having better reach. It's a kind of fighting dynamic which isn't limited to weapon combat, in combat sports like boxing or MMA reach and the management of distance is a very key area that often determines the outcome of the fighting dance.

Not that one approach or weapon will always win the other, but there are advantages which are very hard to ignore.

People will scoff at me saying this, but FGO rates are not bad, they haven't been for a while. FGOs issue is its absurdly high pity.

0.8% for a rate up 5* is better odds than most modern gacha games, especially when you compare it to something like Genshin/Star Rail, where a rate up 5* is 0.3%. The difference is that in Genshin/Star Rail, pity is a 50/50 at 80 rolls and then a guarantee at 160 if you lose that first 50/50, while FGO simply has a flat pity of 330 rolls. tl;dr, FGO rates mean you're actually MORE likely to get a rate up 5* in fewer rolls, but if you get fucked by RNG your safety net barely does anything for you.

Ciel will be on global server around July next year. If you want Arcueid she's currently out but not rated up and therefore not available, but her next rate up is around the release of Ordeal Call 3, which will likely be August next year. You could also theoretically get Arcueid from GSSR at New Years or Anniversary (July) but those require real money payments and still aren't a guarantee you get her, just one of whatever group she's in. So ignore that for now.

The game has a lot of built in rewards tied to progression at this point, so I would personally recommend playing before their rate ups next summer to build your account as opposed to making an account when Ciel releases and rerolling. Assuming you're both progressing the story and regularly logging in and doing weeklies etc. you should have no trouble saving a good amount within a year for those two. But ultimately that depends on your motivation to play I suppose.
