No new player will stick with Strive. New players will start playing and will encounter Pot, ABA, Slayer, Nago, etc who will just kill them in one hit or shit like Ram, Jacko, Zato, Chaos with endless suffocating pressure and will just quit instantly.
Lots of players tried Lucy only to find out she sucks. While she's actually kinda balanced character but in the world of Strive gorillas it's equivalent of being shit. So those players quit as well.

Nago is the most heavily handicapped character in the game, and he just got nerfed (for some reason). He has no double jump, no airdash, no forward dash, a command dash that costs resource, hes the only character who just fucking dies if he ever spends his full gauge, he has one super that's incredibly situational, and another thats even more situational available only after he (somehow) survives popping blood rage and leaves him with literally 1hp.

In exchange for all that he has pretty big normals, the big body grab range, and the ability to punish mistakes pretty hard. So just don't make mistakes

You dont even have to worry about high+low mix any more because that was just too much for the average striver's sensitive palette

Yeah, so no matter who a new player picks, they will get to do some bullshit to their opponent. And stronger defensive mechanics + not literally having a mechanic that gives free damage and a damage buff and a defense buff and a tension gain buff and a burst gain buff SOMEHOW makes the game a lot less snowball-y. the Strive system makes swapping characters easier after you've learned it, but for day 1 beginners i don't think it's very intuitive.

At least when I started going from weakest to strongest attacks was easier in the other games I played as a beginner rather than the specific gatling tree Strive has.

It's too late to change them now but the old system could have been tweaked to actually be (mostly) universal/standardized while having some exceptions here and there like Strive (such as chipp and millia being able to gatling 5k into itself or 2k, hc not having a tradition HS, goldlewis not having traditional P button cancels, and nago, lucy, and unika having extra followups).

I know strive marketed itself as being more helpful for beginners and I guess simplifying the pressure by limiting gatlings makes it simpler to defend/take back your turn but 2xko also markets itself for beginners and keeps the generic weak to strong into special that other anime and tag games have.
