Vanilletruth. That's why I'd say that the series should return to the approach that Sakaguchi used up to and including IX. There should be a quantitative balance of new and old elements. If the series decides to be an anthology, it must find that balance of new and old so that each new project offers enough new elements but still has enough traditional characteristics to avoid losing its personality in the eyes of the audience. The differences between games of the series after X are too drastic, which simply from a marketing standpoint hinders audience growth. The Squaresoft era had a much more rational balance of new and old elements than the Square Enix era. We need to get back to that.

As the first game, it hasn't been too deep into the main conflict of the story, so it is fine to go around a bit. Also, exploring Midgar is cool since we get the actual size of the city that we didn't get in the OG.
Rebirth should be trimmed into 2/3 of its current size to fix the pacing.

The entire situation becomes quite clear once you realize there is cult-like devotion to Naoki Yoshida. Like any cult, they must support and defends the leaders name with religious fervor. I love VIIR because it's a great video game with some amazing characters. It's also a game that has allowed me to connect with multiple family members in some fun new ways by playing it with them and experiencing the story. It's also something that to me represents a fundamental value, and it does it in a way the original game does not. "How do we honor our traditions from the past and the ones who gave us those traditions, while moving the traditions forward to our children so they aren't left behind?" VIIR project is honoring the legacy of big budget toy box game design principles of the FF PS1 era, to regift it to those who come after. That's classic feel good shit. I've never, ever said "I love FFXVI". I definitely don't. I said that I enjoyed many things about the game though, hence a generally positive and better than mediocre "7/10". But I do hate XVI at this point. It sucks. After seeing so many extremely baffling defenses for the game on this board, it seems only natural to oppose what it represents. XVI is other games and other IPs grafted onto the FF franchise through force. XVI is antithetical to my ideals on what Final Fantasy as a series is supposed to be. Everything about it is just wrong, in the end. And I think most anyone who actually cares about Final Fantasy moving forward into the future for our kids to play, knows why that is.

It's like they all saw FFXIII's biggest mistakes of movie-gameism, and said "NOW WATCH THIS!" Doubling down on many of those massive game design mistakes, without ever having the courage to actually do something interesting with Final Fantasy to compromise the way that XIII did. I'm not alone in thinking this, either.

FF7 Remake is getting a Demo on Switch 2 in October, it carries over save data.
Unlike the PS4 Demo it ends instead right after the first whisper attack.
And Xbox demo is planned but is coming later.

It has occurred to me that FF11 is a lost cause. There are millions of fans who have at least given 14 a shot at some point and many of them have completed at least one of the main stories, though by ptw. FF11 does not have the luxury of even being worth installing for most fans let alone even completing the first few missions. It’s an agonizing game with a gargantuan cast of characters that nobody cares about.

Even if they wanted to get people playing XI, they don't want to because the infrastructure cannot handle the influx. SE actually actively tries to stop XIV players from trying out XI because it would kill the servers.
They could make it free to try and advertise it on the XIV Launcher but they don't.
They could devote resources to a remaster or remake but they won't.

The problem with Retail XI is that the game has pretty much nothing in common with the version people liked. Even assuming SE worked on infrastructure and marketed the game, it simply isn't really interesting for most of the market compared to XIV. Its best bet would be some sort of XI Classic, but I think the PS2 interface would automatically filter 99% of the population anyway.

Why do you say that? It's a 23 year old, barely maintained and horribly archaic MMO that is still played today by ~100k active characters. A fair amount of those seem to be 1 account multiboxing itself for... endgame content? but 100k is still a good amount for how frankly miserable it is to actually play FFXI.

The literal only thing holding FFXI back is that it is AGONIZING to do literally ANYTHING in that game. Every single insignificant minor thing is something that you absolutely require making a macro for or using an addon just to make doing that insignificant (possibly repetitive) task bearable. Even something as simple as opening a chest or even just actually attacking an enemy is a nightmare. It is nigh unplayable.

That is not true even in the slightest. Pic related is in the XIV launcher, and this is the second time it has happened, and like the existence of the XI alliance raids at all is proof that they don't *not* want XIV players in XI. I do think it would kill the servers if they received an Asmongold level influx though. They had to shut Asura down to new players, which is a pretty crazy thing to think about for something so impenetrable as XI.

They are doing pic related, and I wish they'd do a Classic WoW type situation where you get XI for free if you sub to XIV, but I guess the thought process is that XI's servers (and the guy(s) maintaining XI) are costing SE money, and XI still has 100k active characters, so why make it free if people are still paying for it?

If they did a real event tomorrow that was free access for all XIV players and made it easy to login the game servers would die under the load of millions of players trying it out.
If they really cared they'd remaster. If they cared slightly and beefed up the servers, they'd do a free login for XIVggers. They are just maintaining bare minimum service instead.
Retail XI is actually great and plenty would enjoy it.
It would be easy to beef up Retail with a UI refresh and have an XIV Classic like OSRS though if SE actually gave a fuck.

This discount campaign is not what I am pointing out. The fact that XI is being advertised, wholesale, both in the Dawntrail Alliance Raids and with crossover campaigns that are advertised in the launcher itself means, at the very least, that they don't *not* want XIV players to play it, whereas you said that SE actively tries to stop XIV players from trying out XI, which is simply untrue.

No it absolutely would not. The issue with XI has nothing to do with the UI but rather the fundamental game systems. Honestly, playing XI made me realize that all of the so-called "spaghetti code" issues plaguing XIV that allegedly cannot be fixed - like nearly all of them originated in XI. There are so many like "why does XIV do [thing] this way, it's so stupid" and literally the answer is just "because XI did it that way". And when you look at XIV 1.0 footage... it just looks like a prettier XI. And then apparently XIV was built by heavily modifying XI 1.0... which, in essence, means that XIV is just a very heavily modified FFXI. That's crazy to think about. If they fucking change anything in XI, it could all fall apart. They can't even put Cornelia and Matsui-P both in the game at the same time because the amount of Trust slots is full and they apparently don't know how to add 1 more slot to make them permanent.

Shit needs PS2 dev kits to maintain and update, like no the fuck it would not be "easy" to do ANYTHING with XI, and the UI isn't even the problem, it's the fundamental game engine and its systems.
