He does great with a Tomb Guard anvil for his Chariot of the Gods to hammer into, the more chariots you have the more micro you have so you don't want too many but one or two are nice just to take with him to beef up his hammer. You should eventually transition from pairing him with chariots to pairing him with Warsphinxes, since they get the same red line buffs and benefit from his extra army wide charge bonus and are also terror causing

For me chariots are earlygame only since I mostly end up fighting sieges where they are almost useless. Usually Settra's army goes from Chariots -> Tomb Guard -> two Scorpion buildings for early 4x scorpions (maybe some Ushabti/Greatbows) -> Sphinx spam
Dont let Scorpion stats deceive you, their animations are one of the best in the game for mulching infantry

I haven't fought a single non-siege battle for the last 50 turns because all the AI does is run around in fear of my stacks
and even the sieges are lamer than usual because they don't even hide in their last town, they purposefully leave their last settlment behind to try and find some undefended settlements until they finally suicide due to the script that makes them attack the closest city when they're out of cities (I didn't leave any undefended settlements).

I don't think W2 is any better anon. Sieges are even more annoying, some factions like Norsca, Chaos Warriors and Pre Paunch DLC Greenskins are literally unplayable, you could cheese the A.I with skimirshing units, cavalry barely could do a thing against it.

The map WAS better though, and the removal of cinematics hurt a ton, but nowadays I don't see reason to favor W2 anymore, specially since you can unlock all W3 content for free with creamapi

It's a weird feeling. /twg/ will not be the same again and experience a huge shift for a second time. Just like with the arrival of Total War Warhammer casuing a huge tide of a new audience, we will get the same with 40K. The thread culture will shift as well, tons of new arrivals won't have a clue about previous etiquete, memes, general history etc. not the same when it's a handful of newfags, but the 40k tide will most likely outnumber the current base by a lot. Come December when it is revealed if all the leaks are correct. Even if Med 3 is announced at the same time, it will be overshadowed by 40K talk. These are the final months of "current /twg/". Is the Lore of High Magic too OP? It has Soul Quench, Arcane Unforging, Fiery Convocation, and the deadliest anti-flyer spell: Tempest. Each cast kills and gives your units ward save. If you had 4 High Archmages, you can permanently keep Ward Save on your troops and can be dealing out thousands of ticks of damage every 30 seconds.

Prior to ET and in earlier editions, Vlad was kind of a moron. A charismatic moron who had the basic sense to not murder the entire human population and instead let them live at least somewhat healthy and safe so they could then be eaten by their vampire overlords, but a moron in everything else. Including forgetting about said notion whenever he got angry and frequently going on rampages murdering all of his subjects (including other vampires) until Isabella showed up to calm him.
Mannfred, on the flip side, was the genius Von Carstein, the real cunning vampire who represented the greatest threat of the whole family. He betrayed Vlad and got him killed both because he wanted power for himself, and because Vlad was legit not a good boss to have in part because of said rampages. Then he put Konrad in charge, someone even stupider and more prone to rampages, and left to go gather arcane lore. His plan was that Konrad would keep weakening the Empire but without real hopes of actually taking over (because he was a moron) and then once defeated, Mannfred would return much more powerful than any of the other Von Carsteins had ever been and actually establish both a network of propaganda to make citizens of the Empire think vampires are actually a-ok, and several rituals to revive him if he got killed prematurely (which does happen in G&F, he gets revived after having fell at Hel Fenn). Mannfred was also very in control of his emotions and kept a cool head at all times.

Then ET came in and suddenly Mannfred was a raging idiot that couldn't plan for shit and who everyone bullied and took advantage of while he could do nothing but whine, while Vlad got brought back by Nagash and was now a stoic gigachad that just stood there throwing barbs at everyone and who reacted to Isabella getting possessed by a Nurgle demon (which is also lore breaking as vampires are anti-chaos) by being super calm and collected and analyzing the situation with a cool head.

If you take enemy major settlement, you can trade it back for peace, 10-40k gold and for the enemy to break all his treaties and declare wars on all his former allies in the next turn. To me, High magic feels kind of weird hybrid lore that pays premium to have good coverage of different lores' specialities. Its a good "one size fits all somewhat" lore.

I've frequented this general since WH1 and I've never got the general sentiment that people here would say its bad. Its a cheap unavoidable spell you spam to slowly whittle down an enemy. It does what it says on the tin. While a bit slow, it requires zero positioning and cant be dodged, be blocked by trees or hit terrain/other model in the way.

If the spell has a clear usecase that it fulfills which other effects can't fulfil, it can be good.

For example, take the spell Rancid Visitations from Lore of Nurgle. Costs twice as much as Spirit Leech but it does way more damage way longer, and can route many wizard heroes off a single cast. Even if the spell eats all your WoM like Rancid Visitations does, if it does its job is can still be worth using. Again with the Rancid Visitations spell if I cast that on an enemy lord at the wrong time, that lord just dies. Yeah my WoM are gone, but the lord is dead which is what I needed to have happen

And there's some combos that make otherwise worthless spells absolutely busted, like taking Flaming Sword with a Imrik or Astagoth army and thus giving fire attacks to an army whose enemy has a 40-60% fire weakness. And some LLs lower WoM cost on some mediocre spells so much they become good just by sheer spamming potential.

Generally though high AP AoE spells are the best because they can just end entire battles all at once. You need very specific circumstances for those sorts of spells to be dethroned.

Not that anon, but I find bombardment/vortex/stronger wind spells to be boringly powerful. From powergaming perspective they pretty much invalidate buff spells and a lot of the matchup ends up not mattering if you have them. Who cares if your Spearmen got charged by Har Ganeth Executioners, just delete then with bombardment lmao. Who cares that the enemy has tons of elite ranged, just toss an overcasted wind over then lol and so on. Their use cases are boring too: blob = spell.

Not to say one would be wrong to use them or that if he shouldnt use them if he finds them fun. Just saying that I found myself enjoying magic a lot more when limiting myself to buffs/missiles/weaker damage spells. It feels a lot more fun to see what parts of your army are faltering or could counter an enemy with certain spells and utilize the spells to tip the scales instead of just blindly deleting blobs.

Tomb Kings, aside from constructs, have a pretty jack of all trades combined arms army setup, and you'll be well served making stacks that seem similar to armies in Medieval 2. As the campaign progresses that'll change on your higher tier stuff which'll be more construct heavy.
