I dont understand this at all, nothing is different, I didn't level, I'm using the same weapons, I had zero issue the first time 20 minutes ago and now I've died to him 5 times in a row

should I clean up some sidequests now or save it for post main quest? most of them are side quests to unlock bosses for weapon farming but apart from splashzone every 3 or 4 levels to grab some new guns i haven't felt the need to farm.

I tried to rush the main quest at level 35 and every enemy was consistently 4 levels above me and I was getting absolutely shitted on and I'm probably 4-5 missions past where you are.
The game at some point just decides that you shouldn't be focusing on the main quest so much and starts ramping up enemy levels to deter you from doing it.
I'm sure it would be easier if you have great gear but I've been suffering to find usable shit for a minute.
I caved and went back to side quests and boss farming to get some more levels.

Instanced zones don't have the same scaling, so the bosses are still really easy if you can get to them. I just bumrushed quest objectives and got the story out of the way at level 25

I really liked the first game on a replay after the second game, but the first time I played the first game I very nearly dumpstered the series entirely and never looked back. I also think not nearly enough people appreciated pre sequel because it was a ton of fun. This is strictly from a gameplay perspective with any story faggotry not being considered at all. Bl4 is easily the most based and redpilled in the series, you can literally let a tranny get ack'ed if you so choose, and them being trans is never once mentioned directly up to that point because it literally doesn't fucking matter at all so it's actually good trans representation that doesn't just treat them as a fucking caricature.

If we're talking almost anything else, the first game is superior, but strictly from a gameplay perspective it very much is not. The game prioritizes shit you don't want, likely in an attempt to get you to try new shit. If you only ever pick up or use jakobs weapons expect them to almost never drop. It also blatantly rigs class mod drops for your character, someone on youtube has already proven this by running Callis a hundred times on two separate characters and only getting legendary class mods for those characters once or twice respectively out of those runs.

That's your ape brain trying desperately to recognize patterns where none are. The human brain cannot understand randomness.
If you were to do enough runs to have a relevant sample size, and record every drop, you would get consistent and average drop rates of around 5% per legendary or whatever the drop rate is.
Someone on reddit did a thousand boss runs and got ~5% drop rates.
I myself did like a hundred boss farm runs with a friend the other day, and we also got around 5 of each legendary. I think I also have close to 2000 hours across all of the games, and I definitely do recall getting really bad drops sometimes. It was never to a point of recognizing a pattern however. Some games do session-based loot seeds where you might get huge quantities of a specific item category for example, but I never observed that happening in Borderlands. I just had the occasional boss kill that only dropped a small handful of useless items. Other times, massive loot explosions just from some badass. It's random, and I'm not sure what the exact behavior is.

Also since Borderlands 4 just came out, and I assume original superstitious loot bitching anon is playing that, there's a good chance that the loot behavior is different from previous games, isn't fully dialed in yet and is likely to get adjusted.

If you're on PC playing with upscaling, modding out the cel shading provides some much needed clarity. It's still present on the floor and baked into the gun models so you aren't losing the aesthetic entirely but the thick outlines on enemies and the level geometry doesn't play well with upscaling.

It's just that barely any such strong builds are even talked about, because everyone is just meta slaving for clickbait. 9/10 "build guides" just use some flavor of bugged or clearly unintended Jakobs interactions, and the rare build that doesn't, uses some overpowered underbarrel.
I was able to figure out two strong builds for Amon, but the easily geared one wasn't very fun, and the really fun one is a bitch to gear and needs like 70 specialization levels that I don't want to grind.
Rafa is easy to gear to moderate power, and then once you have a good Dancer mod he just takes off and erases UVHM5 boss health bars in some 30-ish seconds with mediocre gear, no bug abuse, and no firmware. There's a lot more scaling potential, but I wanted to explore my options first.

Jakobs throwing knives can roll forced crits for a short duration, which applies to all instances of damage, including DoT, and thus makes the above even more egregious
Vex specifically has an interaction with crits and DoT which causes infinitely recurring and stacking damage that can deal more damage than the game can track.

They do decent-ish damage, but at this point every enemy does so much damage that if they eat a hit they just eat shit and die. And then you're just sitting there with a huge cooldown and fuck all to do. The cooldown reduction in that tree is also "while the stack is up, your cooldown ticks a bit faster" and not "each kill takes X seconds off the cooldown". On top of that, each kill grants a stack that is individually tracked, up to 3 (or 6 if you get a specific class mod), but getting another stack doesn't refresh all stacks. If you get 2 kills in the same second, and they have 1 second left, and you get a third kill you don't get 3 stacks for the full duration, you get 3 stacks for 1 second and then you're back down to 1 stack. Why? When this is already worse than even "take off 1 second per kill"? So the build becomes clunky and annoying. Specially with vile enemies that thanks to their invulnerability, have a fun habit of just destroying your clones who do not aim for crystals.
The green tree's ability is kinda ass, and only worth it to increase your jacobs damage, you don't even use the damage waves at all, they only tickle enemies at best.
Red tree I assume suffers similar problems than green tree, I started leveling with that and my cat was consistently killed before ever reaching UVHM, causing me to switch to blue. It is also EXCEPTIONALLY annoying, [1/2]

Because it is the tree where you are going to use your secondary action skill thing the most. Aka: hold F. You will start to hate it. The time you need to hold it feels so fucking long, It's probably only one second, but holding the fucking F button for a full second while aiming at something feels like it slows combat down to a crawl. And if you think that's not too bad, go to one of those websites that test your mouse clicks per second and see how many clicks you can average in a second. That's how often you could be shooting with a lot of non.automatic weapons, and instead you're just holding a single button. But again, in all likelyhood on UVHM 1-5, your cat is probably just gonna be dead half the fucking time.
In all honesty, I'd go crit knive, and failing that probably clones. But even clones makes use of debuff stacking each other and the bleed buff in green tree, just doesn't go all in on it.

I use the Trouble Bubble capstone on mobs, by scaling his damage you give him enough shields to survive things, on bosses I swap to Unleashed just for the extra damage, if he dies the mark stays up anyway. (Actually you can swap again once the mark is up if you want, it doesn't go away even when you do that, but this is autistic)
>Grave Sustenance enables your AoE bubble to stay up while mobbing almost always, this gives you a constant stream of overshields
>Blasted Fiends and Grave Current enables you to scale troubles damage (important because it gives him more shielding)

my point was not that F is a bad key, after all you can freely rebind it to whatever the fuck you want, both mouse side buttons are not bound to anything in this game. The annoyance was that you need to hold it for 1 second each time, which is FOREVER during combat. If you play for 25 hours, with a 25sec cooldown on that skill, you will have spend an ENTIRE HOURE just holding that button down to make a crit attack happen, or whatever skill you take.

You're picking up and trying to use bad loot, is what's wrong.
Also you're probably playing on easy or normal, where basically jack shit drops according to most sources I hear from. I've played on hard, and my loot was fine. If I ever felt like I was running low, I just ran some bosses another couple times.
If shit isn't dying, use your ordnance. Nobody is forcing you to use grenades. Miniguns delete tough targets, as do some rocket launchers.
Torgue sticky shotguns delete anything you point them at.
Jakobs snipers are excellent for safely clearing tough areas of weaker enemies before going in.
Some Tediore guns are great on reloads.

I've been on hard mode since the start and never struggled with loot. Try setting your game to hard, maybe that'll help with drops. Yes, enemies get tougher, but UVHM is the same anyway, it should help teach you mechanics.

Red/Blue Harlowe pairs very well with Rainbow, especially if you get a Rad/Cryo pairing on it. The third on mine is Incendiary, so it melts anything it hits. You can also forgo the last 5 points in your red tree and pop them in blue to get a point in the Cryo lifesteal/overshield talent to help with survivability. You can take items from the bank regardless. You can absolutely fully upgrade it and fill it up, it only means you can't place any items in the stash on fresh unupgraded characters.
Also the usual early game strat on fresh characters is just to rush all the SDU upgrades and vaults anyway, specifically so you can have max inventory + stash ASAP, as well as all the movement upgrades and waypoints.

Don't worry about it too much. Focus on the guns and loot you pick up. Weapon proficiency is a meme you can power-grind once you beat the story because the exp farming map is at the end of the story.

Kind of crazy that something like Wonderlands endgame mode isn't in at launch, it feels like a really good foundation to build off of. Is there a point to maliwan snipers? I could use any other maliwan weapon to inflict the dots and they do impact damage too. the snipers just seem to stick the cancer orb and thats it

Bad pacing and is basically a flat line from sledge to the salt flats: totally understandable how someone might feel aimless or bored, but it's inoffensive and doesn't interrupt gameplay. They did a good job building anticipation after Baron Flynt (no key piece, echonet turned off, first exposure to guardians) but failed to bring things back down after the vault opening. The Knoxx DLC does a much better job with pacing.

Great; most missions/arcs have a definitive intro/ramp/climax/followthrough, and they rarely interrupt gameplay outright. Flynt's ship and Wildlife Preserve are both good examples of missions with great pacing overall.

Maintained similar structure to 2 on paper, but the gameplay wasn't lined up to the story beats as well as 2 (the pickles/methane shenanigans were an order of magnitude longer than they should have been, for example)

Dogshit; tries to be like 2 but they substitute some gameplay with very slow gimmick segments or the much more common "let the NPCs yap for a few minutes." These aggressive and frequent "pace-breaker" moments are incredibly frustrating if you're enjoying the rest of the game.

I can count on one hand the amount of times in 4 where I truly just wanted everyone to shut the fuck up and let me keep playing over the main story, in 3 it was a constant desire.

Am I missing something when it comes to farming the set bonuses? I started seething with hatred when I realised the set bonuses can only be transferred to the same type of gear but i'm now trying to "farm" the tediore throwing bonus perk but need it specifically on a weapon and I just cannot fucking find it.

Do you get more from farming anything specific?

I've always felt that pretty much everything about 1 was released in some kind of beta, "for fucks sake let's release it already" state, but it never got iterated upon in that same way. As you said, 4 is probably the closest to 1 on a spiritual level. But then the NPCs start yapping and all that falls apart

This thing is lackluster with the damage but hilarious to use. Most enemies when hit by it get knocked the fuck back and ragdoll for a while, even the random world bosses can't stay on their feet. Need to try it out against a story boss like sol or something.

And this thing as well, the rockets that crit can ricochet as rockets to more enemies, when you get a groove going its a tad nutty.
