if memory serves right, Canto 2 was when the sinners began acting friendly towards each other

Canto 3 was when they began showing concern for those around them (see Effie and Saude)

Canto 4 was when Dante began showing genuine concern for the sinners, and how Yi Sang came to accept them as an important part of his life that should be cherished

4.5 highlighted how flawed their relationships were, with Faust keeping her distance, Yi Sang trying to close the gap between everyone and Heathcliff trying but ultimately failing to get Ishmael's head on straight (not exactly a lot of happy memories in this intervallo)

Canto 5 was full of conflict, but ultimately ends on a positive note, with Ishmael learning to be more friendly and understanding (LOL, LMAO), but it was still weird seeing her calling everyone her friends

Canto 6 didn't show anything that important regarding the relationship between the sinners, except for Heathcliff putting his trust in them to stop him from going berserk, and his relationship with Dante becoming much more amicable and one of mutual respect and understanding. Aside from that, nothing related to the other sinners

Canto 7 and 8 suddenly have moments where both Don and Hong Lu go "muh family, we stick together in this bitch"

In universe they've been travelling in close proximity for several months by that point and some of the interactions there i.e. Yi sang, Don and sinclair playing chess, don trying to copy meursaults newspaper reading are even called out.

Its also worth noting that most of the sinners who are really into the LimFriends have already have had their cantos and these people were there with them through the unveiling of pretty much all their trauma and tried to help them overcome it. The ride or die stuff becomes much more natural with this in mind.
