should mention that it's nearly as old as the ds itself so i changed it a little to build on libnds 1.8.3, any newer than 1.8.3 and you'd have to learn how to use the calico shit where they completely rewrote a lot of libnds

I don't know shit about DS development, but at a glance, touch all needs to go through ARM7 if what I'm reading is right. Are you sure ARM9 can just read it normally like that? Maybe you need ARM7 to read it and store it somewhere they can both access it? Just throwing it out there. Like I said, never touched DS. Only 3DS.
Anonymous No.541114753
>>541113923
that is right but libnds provides a default arm7 binary that does nothing but respond to arm9 ipc for things like touch and soudn
Anonymous No.541114791
>>541113923
my understanding of it from the libnds examples is that the ARM7 only runs a little bit of code to be set to idle and send things to ARM9 while the ARM9 handles everything else

Having problems with running pokemon X on my 2DSXL. Luma 13.3, most recent firmware. The console is Japanese but allows for region free gaming. Black screen and softlock after choosing language in game. I figured out that this was due to the 1.5 update, I can play the base version just fine. Redownloaded the update multiple times from various different sources, still no dice. Oddly enough, Pokemon Y works just fine even with its respective 1.5 update installed. I also have a physical cart, when I put it in and boot it up it just gives me a black screen softboot immediately. I've tried messing around in luma locale switcher as well but no luck. Any ideas?
Anonymous No.541172712
>>541172109
PokΓ©mon started being region free in X/Y, so language isn't the issue.
You may need to delete the folder that the update is located or the folder of the game's title ID.
If you got a spare SD card, try a fresh install before deleting stuff. Sketchy SD cards can do bad stuff too.

also having used android on my switch (there's no choice there by the way, you just get the latest version available) i'd say it's not worth it, ultimately you realize everything it can do your phone by now can probably do better, with the switch just having a slightly bigger screen over it. only cause 3DS still has some games not ported elsewhere, at least for me
though i'd also agree the 3DS was the last true big company name handheld given the switch's portability is only good for playing on the sofa or bed. Even the vita is too big (not to mention the protruding sticks) to actually carry it around without a dedicated case. Sucks most chink handhelds also do this and very few took the clamshell design way

smartphones are still too cumbersome to actually play videogames with, even if just for the fact that they don't come with built in controllers. It's the reason chinkhelds that are literally that, phones with a built in controller, sell like hot cakes. Or like in another field, why dedicated music players still sell even though you can just use your phone, people like having dedicated hardware instead of a "it does everything" hardware
Anonymous No.541318856
>>541315891
I'm not saying you're wrong to want dedicated devices, but I feel you're way underestimating how niche those are now.
PS5 install base is what, 80mil now, random Chinese emulation handhelds on budget SoCs aren't even competing in the same league. Nobody is mad enough to seriously release and treat one like a real independent platform.
For actual high end gaming all platform holders figured out that nobody can afford to have separate handheld architecture and to develop a unique game library for it, so yeah it's all going to be largish luggable devices for the foreseeable future.
The big advantages phones have is they are already in everyones' pockets and people have been conditioned to spend well over a thousand dollars per device so it can have a really nice screen and a top end SoC.

Anonymous No.541331227

same but at the same time i'm glad it's not cause i'd essentially want a more powerful 3DS, and by 3DS i mean a hacked one
they're going slow and steady with it but in 5-10 years i can see those rog ally or legion or even a steam deck getting a clamshell model, maybe even "dual screen" (aka it has a foldable screen)
Anonymous No.541337983 >>541339857
>>541294017
mostly because there's no way yet to accurately replicate the feel of a 3DS/DS, dual screens is still something so unique that emulators just never feel right, and ports have to get rid of any dual screen capability, which keeps the 3DS a very unique system because its games are hard to adapt to single screen devices.

On top of that, the 3DS was made portable first, even the Switch Lite is not as portable as a 3DS XL.

I feel there's still a market for a DS-like device, but maybe not big enough for Nintendo to justify manufacturing, at least for now, maybe in the future they'll release a 3DS Classic Edition if they feel like it, but it will probably just be an overpriced console hoarded by collectors

>Is the difference between the steam deck LCD and OLED models that big?
Same power between the two models, but the OLED has:
>Larger battery (50Whr battery vs LCD's 40Whr)
>WiFi 6E (LCD has 5, it's slightly slower)
>Dedicated bluetooth module
>The screen is OLED (duh) and it's slightly larger than the LCD (OLED is 7.4" and LCD is 7")
>90Hz refresh rate VS LCD's 60Hz. On the OLED, you can limit the FPS to 45 and it won't have stuttery framepacing like trying to do 45FPS on the LCD
>Can use HDR (which can cause some stutters and lag depending on the game)
>Can get brighter than the LCD (1000 nits with HDR on, 600 with it off; the LCD is 400 nits max)
>The console itself is a bit lighter than the LCD version
>The touch screen also has better response
>OLED has a longer charging cable kek
I feel like the discount on the LCD is just Valve trying to clear out stock before discontinuing that model, and the battery alone is a a pretty good upgrade, but you do you. There's also the chance of getting a refurb, so check if there are any for your area.
>this is also assuming the steam deck can run android too

Is there any way to easily almost instantly transfer a 3DS save file from your handheld to PC and back? Like over FTP or my home network or whatever? Hell even uploading the save to a cloud service or something. I haven't touched my 3DS in ages but want to be able to play this Pokemon romhack seamlessly on the go and then back on PC through emulation. I don't want to have to whip out the SD card and SD card USB dongle thing and go in and copy and paste blah blah blah every single time.

I have JKSaves program or whatever else on my 3DS already for save file and file management, I know how to backup and transfer saves manually. I just don't know about any easy potential FTP/upload function.
And if it's more of a hassle than just using the USB dongle I guess I'll suck it up.

there probably are people that honestly do refurbish the systems. clean them out, dust, and do the right stuff. the problem with a place like ebay is sorting them out from the people that do exactly what i described.

you also have to remember that feedback is essentially useless sometimes. retards selling to retards with a feedback system like ebay... yeah.

the last time i messed with ebay for anything, someone scammed me out of a rare wii game. they bought it, disputed, and returned a scratched up copy. mine was basically pristine, i only used it once. ebay took their side and i was out $90. they removed my negative feedback from their profile too. i don't use ebay anymore. i've heard the fees have gotten even more ridiculous.

excuse my writing i am an esl
using freehdboot requires you to format your hdd with ps2 format which is a bit of pain to transfer games to (pfs batchkit makes the process kinda of easy), if you want to drag and drop your games directly to the hdd (exfat) you have to use freemcboot (booting from your mc) + latest version of opl with bdm support, also you can take a look at neutrino which is a barebones command-line lightweight ps2 game loader with no plugins which adds to it's games compatibility somehow.
(this link is for a neutrino frontend based on opl which makes it easier to use) https://www.psx-place.com/threads/opl-based-gui-frontend-for-neutrino.42166/

(this is a cool project that combines both neutrino and ps2 bbn)
https://github.com/CosmicScale/PSBBN-Definitive-English-Patch

btw both of these link provide you with how you can transfer games, especially the ps2bbn english patch

If it's a 360 Slim/Elite with decent storage space I'd definitely keep it and save up for the 3DS. The 3DS is a great gaming device and so is the 360.

I am American, buying overseas is considered an act of treason, which is unfortunate. I miss buying chinkshit for a reasonable price.

I don't know how viable Japanese auction sites are either. I looked into them *a while ago*, and I found exceptional prices. I read a few guides on proxy shipping, but nothing came of it.This was just as more people were catching onto buying from Nippon (either directly or via proxy shipping). I've read that it's a trend for gaijin to buy 3DS' in particular, and bring them back to the states for profit.
>>541721676
This is the case for Fuckbook Marketplace and Offerup as well. In fact, I feel like I'd be better off buying from eBay since they have buyer's protection, and the seller can't just ghost me or neglect to mention that a certain functionality doesn't work without them getting raped by eBay.

idk then, you can check DBI for orphaned files but i don't know how and if that will fix anything. Try also doing a clean install, it's explained in full in the guide in op but basically you delete all the folders of the hacks stuff off your sd card and put in fresh ones, you don't lose anything but some atmosphere/hekate settings (if you ever changed those from the defaults) but you can just reapply them, games and saves won't be affected

if you don't want to search for them and install them yourself, just get the HATS package
make sure the txt file you download is for the correct build of the game, i.e. game version (1.0.1, 1.0.2, etc)

cheating in games is basically moving things in memory, so if you load a wrong or corrupted cheat it will move shit where it's not supposed to, breaking the game.
there should also be an "enabled" txt file or similarly named, you can just delete this one if you're sure you have the correct list for your build. Deleting it basically toggles all cheats off, and you can enable them one by one again

That particular model, as well as >25xx manufactured after April 2011, are not CFW compatible, though they are HFW compatible. I haven't looked much into super slims nor HEN/HFW, so I don't know exactly what you'd lose out on; I don't know if it's simply a loss of convenience that comes with CFW.

If you don't care about full CFW functionality, at least make sure the bluray drive works--especially considering the condition your specimen of a friend left it in. It's already jailbroken so you won't run into a boot loop when trying to update the FW to jailbreak it, but a functioning bluray drive (the logic board at least) is required for a few functionalities--playing PS2/PS1 games is one of them. A workaround exists to convert ISOs to pkgs (I believe), but it looked rather inconvenient, so I didn't look much into it.

>CECH-21xx (alleged best ones?) from Japan for around 100
Is that before taking shipping costs into consideration? They can be pretty high, especially with something heavy. If you go that route, I'd go ahead and order some trinkets from Area 11, like some animu figures to go along with your thousand-times-folded PS3. If you can't read moonrunes, make sure to translate each page carefully.

I'm not all that familiar with consoles from different regions, but it looks like it should work as-is

It is easy. Most stick kits will come with a shitty screwdriver that's good enough for one time use. Plastic is chewy and screws are easy to strip, but like with anything electronic if you take your time and don't just start forcing things, it's not too easy to damage.
Soldering fullsize sticks is quite a bit more involved by comparison.

2 main reasons.
> Small debris (mainly dust) interfering with the contact between the joystick/board.

> Decay on the contact itself
This is why these cheap joysticks end up failing forever and you should change them to hall effect.

Probably yeah. I had to replace mine once because it wouldn't hold a charge like that. If you really want to test it, leave it on until it drains completely and then leave it plugged up for the amount of time they say it takes a 3ds to charge and see if that fixes it. I know with switch the battery calibration can get fucked up and doing that resets it. I never seen it happen to a 3ds but it should be possible for it to happen.

But I'd bet its just a dead battery. It happens.

>any recs for replacement batteries?
Ah man, when I replaced mine it was back when Nintendo was still making them/selling them. My advice is go to ebay, look for them there and see if any reviews of the people selling them say if they are legit/work. And see if anyone on there is selling actual official 3ds batteries.
I hear ifix it is reliable though there prices are bit expensive. I remember people back in the day talking about how you could upgrade the 3ds battery too. Maybe search online on how to do that and buy a battery that they recommend for that. I almost went that route when I replaced mine but figured I'd just stick with official. Search around. Maybe check out gbatemp, they normally have buying guides and upgrade guides and what not.

FWIW, I had a lite that started getting slight drifting issues after nearly two years. I was pretty careful with it, even in Smash I avoided getting too rough with it, and most of my playtime at the time was stuff like Animal Crossing and other games that didn't need sudden joystick movement.
>I heard you can switch out the sticks if needed
You can, but opening up a lite to replace the sticks is more annoying than doing it for the joycons, since you have to disassemble more stuff to get to the sticks.

I have an original 3ds with an ancient version of Luma that I don't remember the details about. It often crashes when booting Luma and when I boot a game, even a legit purchased game, it often gives me a black screen with "an error has occurred please restart."
I've been looking into updating, all the guides say to hold select when booting to see the version number so I know what guide I need to follow. Absolutely nothing happens when I boot whilst holding start or select or both, it just boots into the stock firmware. If I hold L I get the funny colors screen and the Luma3DS launcher which can successfully launch Luma about half the time, but I don't see where it indicates Luma's version number.
Seems I need to fix it but I don't want to brick from following the wrong guide from a fucked up starting point as well.

Worked on 3DS very well, although because you downloaded directly from Nintendo's servers. I can see why people don't like switch shops, but it isn't because of the concept of shops on itself, but because 90% of shop providers are jews wanting to make a buck out of it, defeating the point of piracy in the first place.

Tourist here.

Using a combination of eden, and the latest ryubinx, emulatorfags are powering through legends ZA.

Does anyone here have the game running on modded hardware yet though? I've seen a few posts claiming to have it done, but no proof.

Currently, Tinwoo and DBI are both resulting in a "corrupted" install, with NSBU-loader throwing a failed to install message.

Running on EmuMMC on 20.5.0 with the latest gbatemp sigpatches if that helps.

Someone suggested booting directly through fusee, rather than the latest hekate, to avoid install issues, but that doesn't seem to change anything.

Should I just update Luma to the latest and migrate, or wipe everything and redo the whole CFW setup on the new microSD from scratch? I barely remember how any of this worked. I don’t have anything important on the 32GB card, so I’m fine with formatting and starting fresh. Ideally I want the 128GB to be my main card.

sigpatches are not currently up to date in a way that allows for the installation of ZA. Head over to the gbatemp thread, what you need to do is fully uninstall sigpatches, and install sys-patch instead.

From there, a DBI install will run properly, rather than corrupting.

Can I just say I feel like this homebrew community seems to have diverged to the point I can't keep up? You should be content with that desu. There aren't that many interesting games on PS4, and even then some of them had a previous gen release. You could make do with a PS3, a handheld and an adequate gaming PC.

I've read that you can go online with a jailbroken PS3 too, but that you have to take the necessary precautions to not get banned. Even then you can unban your console.

I don't know how active PS3 servers are for games, nor if connecting to a lobby will rape your network like with COD games. Probably would've been a more enticing option even 6 years ago. I remember playing BO2 semi-regularly back then. We really don't know what we have until we lose it...

reading about switch running hot and churning through the battery if you leave wifi on while on the last few firmwares, but i always had this issue since early 2018 (and what led me to adopt airplane mode at all times, since i hacked it a few months after that and never used online on it), what gives?
Anonymous No.542763907

This was an issue in older firmwares too, on and off. Part of it is probably that many of the switches are now 5+ years old so the batteries are degraded to begin with.

If you don't turn on airplane mode, it'll drain the battery faster and be a bit warmer even in sleep mode. Even docked, it will be a bit warmer even in sleep.

Was squirrel.exe ever replaced with something newer? Because tools like SAK cannot create working hybrid xci from basegame, update & dlc on newer titles from the past few months, they simply do not show up in emulators and when they accidentally do, they don't even work. The older games can be shaped like this no problem. I suppose its a miracle we got this much mileage out of NUT to begin with.
All this fucking around just to avoid a pointless nsp install.

that's right, and even though that means running switch 2 carts on an hacked switch 1 is possible the switch 2 part of them is still encrypted separately so, afaik, it can't be accessed yet. As i said, it's just like putting a switch 1 cart in there, even for hacked systems
