I like it quite a lot as someone who's played LUCT before.
The voice acting is adds a lot to the characters.
Keep in mind that this is a remake so the game is rebalanced.

IMO this is actually pretty good. You can't grind to outpace the campaign, but if you enjoyed the luxury of being able to leisurely walk through the campaign as a power fantasy then you may be annoyed. There are a bunch of ways to break the game if you know what to do. I don't think it's that hard aside from boss encounters.

These spawn mid fight and can augment your character in quite significant ways. Bosses later start with a full kit of cards which makes them very threatening imo. This also can sorta give a flow to the fight where the threat level of your guys or enemies who pick the cards up is changing.
I saw someone mention that it's not something you should go out of your way to grab instead of taking a proper turn. I probably agree though I haven't done late-endgame yet.

Game is balanced around this.
Those are the main complaints I remember.
There's also a bunch of QoL stuff compared to the originals that make me recommend Reborn over other versions.
It's unfortunate that there isn't a definitive best version as they're all balanced different and 1/3 games has a differently worded script. But I'm very happy with what we got.

And yeah with how the damage calculations are done, if the card pushes you over a threshold you'll see damage output spiking.

You can achieve the same with status effects, but I'm pretty sure the game assumes you're already using them with how tanky some enemies are without breach.

It's kind of a niche of a niche genre outside of FFT and a few others that were hits. I don't think better marketing would make some massive difference at least in NA and they must agree with me with how little they do. Hawky here, I doubt SoC will ever collab with Square, they used to be under Square as Project Triangle Strategy (see my Origin Story video), and they got kicked out to make way for actual Triangle Strategy.
That's why they changed from a standalone game and became the gacha game as we know today.
