There has kind of always been a rift between people playing games for fun and people playing games for reviews. This is because when you start narrowing down on the former group, there is that one special case who likes playing xcom on iron man with some additional mods to make the game harder than it would normally allow. I can respect it, but that's far from the average player experience, and my thinking is that reviews are best aimed for those average players. A more hardcore player is going to better know if they'll like a game or not without resorting to reviews.
So Silksong isn't the hardest game out there, not even by a longshot, but someone who has been playing exclusively Mario or the like? Yeah, it can be something of a wake-up call.

I like Gal Gun Returns for the gameplay unironically. Granted, i am not super familiar with railshooters so fans of the genre could have some criticism i don't know.
But I personally like how the game plays, the different weakspots for every student becomes second nature, and trying to shoot some before the expected moment is pretty fun.
Using bombs also is annoying after the novelty wears off so you really want to get good at shooting fast and accurate.
The romance and stats thing could be better implemented honestly, but the "fights" you get on every route are a fun way to change gameplay for a bit.
I didn't like GGDP as much when i tried it but i didn't get deep into it to be fair, the change of weakspots in some students really threw me off.

I still maintain that DMFD has the building blocks of a good game, it just needed better (and more) content to support it. So you can use that time to have Valve read and approve your game's Steam page well in advance.
