Xp earned post-story is usually more valuable since it double dips for both regular level xp and specialization xp and that feature unlocks for all your characters. From what I recall you can do at least 2 regions worth of sidequests without hitting level cap but I've heard mixed reports of the last areas level scaling. Personally I entered at 40 finished at 45 and never ran into anything higher than 2 levels above me

Been ages since release of 1 and 2 so hard to compare but I've found it better than base 3. UVHM isn't as much of a difficulty wall as mayhem, alts are easy to make although open world collect-athon is a nuisance, unified cosmetic unlocks is a blessing, and I can see myself playing all 4 characters. Granted we don't really have an endgame just yet. Story is okay, not the best not the worst a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 it does its job. Still feels like an over-correction like someone tell GB they can keep some humour in the main story outside of characters named zane.

What blows about the heads in 4 is all the lower half locked customizations earned from quest rewards are identical on all characters and I generally think they're ugly. Then the upper half are character specific but they're super generic, the only unique head is earned by purchasing every SDU upgrades and they're hit or miss depending on the character. From my experience you want legendary weapons and shields. Everything else there's a great chance a purple might be better, but you can't target farm good purple class mods so it might be easier to build around a legendary class mod which has a lesser pool of attributes.

The only purple weapon I use is a purple Vladof SMG with a Taser. I think on UVHM1 you can use just the Taser underbarrel and the Vladof enhancement that incresaes underbarrel damage and the boss Horace, for example, will die just from the Taser.

With the way they're balancing it, you probably need a ripper roll high rate of fire and a large magazine to make the most of the reload orbs. Generally I went with the 4-shot high damage drops with 172% crit to take advantage of the gun damage itself but the flavor is leaning into the legendary effect all the way now.

Reload from main menu and only spam bounties and vile bounties from the first safehouse until level 33 or 34, the first area shouldn't scale enemies more than 1-3 levels above you. After that you should be able to kill stuff better but will occasionally get ! level enemies in the snowy area until the low 40's.
