The thing that made sod so popular was the promise that there would be weekly pvp and pve tuning, and for the first phase, they actually did it

Imagine TBC pvp with warr/resto Druid/warlock/rogues gutted. It’s basically a whole nother game. And with the expectation of active tuning, you don’t just quit in the first season because you know that’s how it’s going to be for 20 weeks

I don’t think classic dragon slayers give a shit that much, pve pre wrath requires no skill so they most likely would be annoyed that they’d have to constantly reroll to FOTM because if they wanted an actual pve challenge, they’d just play retail

Games in general are dogshit unless they're made by literalwhole indie devs. Most AAA titles are made by corporations whose shareholders only care about the bottomline so everything is rushed to shit, and produced at the lowest cost. As for why MMOs suck? The market just isn't there anymore. MMOs exploded because social media was still in its infancy. Back in 2005, WoW was used as a glorified chatroom for many players and it's those players that contributed to the "soul" you feel that these MMOs lack these days.
TLDR: It's not 2005 anymore, the next big reboot is fulldive VR, just pray you live long enough to be around to see it happen.

people get overwhelmed and panic by everything that's going on. your UI changes, you have to watch your health and energy, watch timers for explosions while also keeping stacks applied. can't get out of the construct too late or too early. individually none of those things are difficult, but when it's all thrown at you at once and you have seconds to react, people shut down. happens with every vehicle fight, just look at how much people sucked at doing Occulus even though that shit was easy as fuck.
it might not be so bad if there was somewhere you could practice the amber construct without so much pressure, but the first time you do it is in the middle of the fight where one wrong move wipes the raid, and you're not guaranteed to get chosen so you could go a few encounters without ever seeing how it works.

my guild finally got him down on heroic last week but it took a couple weeks of prog and fine tuning our strategy. having a 3rd tank stay construct the whole 2nd phase was what worked for us, so they could just eat pools and apply stacks and anybody else who got shaped only had to focus on interrupts and nothing else.

I mean, I love Wrath and I'm a nolifer, but even I'm not sure if I'm ready to commit to raiding 10 and 25 mans every week again. how many people are really going to stick it out for Ulduar and ICC prog this time? There is no new patch with new quests or new things people gotta learn and talk about. Builds, strats, BiS lists, it's all available for years and there's no reason to ask for anything or have doubts about anything.

If you wanna talk to people about the game and it's the only way you can feel engaged with it all, unironically go play retail. There's a clusterfuck of reputations, grinds, everchanging builds, new patches etc, so there's always new things to talk about.

there's not that much to talk about old, solved versions of the game, and pretty much all of them are at low points right now. anni is on naxx where it traditionally dries up and people are just waiting for tbc, mop is at the tail end of a phase and people are either just raidlogging or taking a break. on top of that, both here and reddit suffer from being too splintered between various versions of the game so every conversation turns into shitflinging about which version is better and eventually people just stop trying to discuss anything. most conversation about the game is happening in class or server discords at this point.
