That would be the case, if the game didn't give you so many tools to replace them. In Act 1 alone, you can acquire an amulet to cast Guidance, a ring that can apply Bless when you heal, and Revivify scrolls are common. A one-level Cleric dip is also very efficient and can fit many builds. I wouldn't personally have a party without a full Cleric (because Shadowheart earns her spot), but it wouldn't be impossible without one.

Not indispensable just way too useful. Because shit happens and they tend to be the best at fixing shit. This is what justified their role even in the good ol' days when they were glorified healsluts with limited offense. With 5e you get all the pros and more without any of the previous cons. You can replicate most part of what a Cleric does with multiple characters but not necessarily all of it. So as I said you can live without one, it's just too convenient to bring one and be done with it.

My Tavs are Githaboos. They love everything about Githyanki culture, especially their gear, despite not being Gith. Their love goes down a bit whenever they're two shotted by a Gith martial though (maneuver + 1d6 psychic bonus damage go BRRR).

This is probably a bug but I was able to reach the first Umbral Gem that's protected by a force field without extinguishing any Mystic Thuribles.

No artificial fuckery, I just found a spot next to the force ring where I didn't get repelled. Then I followed the curve of the ring itself and walked inside scot-free.

I don't think any human has ever played knowledge cleric. Bard is CHA though so you'll have that generally smoother experience. Cleric has command though, never gets old telling someone to go prone or to drop their weapon.

Hopefully residents with first-hand experienced in the said classes will help you out but I'd approach this question from another angle. Is this your first playthrough? Do you plan to romance Shadowheart or at least bring her along? Have you played either class already? I know Lore Bard is popular in all flavors: a pure (level 12) option, one with minimal dips (1-2 level from another class) or as a 6 level foundation for multi-classing. Knowledge Cleric has much more novelty value but it has consequences for party composition. From what I see you can't go wrong with either in terms of versatility and efficiency, so considering other factors in the decision making might be useful here.

Take 1-2 levels in Knowledge Cleric. This gets you Expertise, Medium Armor, the CD, and a smattering of cleric spells. Take the ones that don’t require saves.
Meanwhile you dump the rest into Lore Bard. You still get 6th level spell slots, and you only lose the Bard 6th levels if you go 2 into cleric. Magical Secrets (x2) gives you a lot of versatility
You get the best of both of the subclasses, and all you lose out on is the 12th level feat

Post >>541979774 is already a good answer relative to the question, although, for the sake of being objective, it should be noted that Knowledge Cleric's Expertise in two of the three relevant INT skills (Arcana, History, Religion) is largely inconsequential in BG3 besides roleplaying flavor. Off the top of my head, I can remember maybe a couple of relevant Arcana checks throughout the entire game. Playing a Bard (with Expertise in the CHA skill of your choice) is already being versatile. That said, the advice to dip into Cleric as a Bard is still sound - just don't feel obligated to stick to the Knowledge domain. A Lore Bard 10 / Life Cleric 2 is unironically the best support and healer in the game. Your Preserve Life is just as strong as that of a Life Cleric 12, and you still get to put 10 levels into the main character class.

It would be interesting if Kagha joined you if you sided with her and killed the tieflings. Another evil route party member would be appreciated, since the other thing the cast has too much of in addition to elves and druids is good aligned characters. A good aligned elf is the last thing the party needs in terms of diversity. An evil aligned elf would at least be some. So she would be cool. (She's not literally evil aligned herself in terms of character sheet, but she would be the companion for the route of killing the tieflings when Wyll and Karl leave you).

But there are about a dozen characters who would have made fun party members, or would have been fun evil route party members. With Shart and Lazy both turning neutral as part of their character stories the developers push you towards, only Astarion and Minth are carrying the evil torch. I would have loved Kagha, Karniss, Aradin, Dror, Orin, Anders, or several other baddies to join depending on your quest decisions.

It's a valid opinion. There are also people who liked the story, the character class building, and/or combat gameplay mechanics of divos2 more as well. All valid.

I don't think dnd 5e is a strength of bg3. The name recognition helped sales to some degree but in terms of the mechanics, 5e is not more interesting or better than bespoke systems like Pillars or Divinity.

So I think it comes down to bg3's characters are more relatable than os2's, and personal relatability is a huge factor in normie's appreciation of media. Shart, Astarion, Lazy, Gale, all have real life relatable problems with a fantasy magical coat of paint. Bad influences, bad authority figures, peer and mentor pressure, all highly relatable real life problems. Meanwhile, fewer people can relate to Lohse's problem or Fane's problem, or Prince's problem. They're interesting characters for people who can separate themselves from literature and appreciate the story for what it is, but that's not how most normies appreciate fiction. Most normies look at fiction through the lens of themselves. So the average normie will appreciate bg3's cast more than os2's cast, completely regardless of which one might be "better written". Thus, the sales and mainstream influence of bg3 relative to os2.

Personally, I think they're about even. i like Larian's habit of the player character not always being the center of attention. Kingmaker, WotR, and RTrader are one long fellatio of the player, while in Larian's games the party members all have their own plot and stories, and the player takes a backseat to Prince and Shart and Gale and Fane at various points; especially Sybille. Each game has a couple mary sues, which is a valid criticism, but it's fine.

Poison is practically dead on arrival as roughly 200 creatures Resistant to it and another 200 Immune. Although it can be used against humans and it's pretty well-supported by items it still remains a lackluster experience on low-efficiency. As for Acid it has only spells in the game plus an action or two, and the worst part is that as a condition it does nothing but lowers AC by 2. Which of course provides extra hit percentage but you still have to rely on external / additional sources to actually do that damage and the amount is just not enough to justify the whole thing.

The Displaced Beast is only there to lead you to an open area where the trigger for the cutscene lies. The ambushers are standing on the floor above in a half-circle formation. If you passed the Perception check they become visible and you can jump from the steps where the Beast originally was to their floor, effectively landing behind their backs. Are you sure there isn't something super close that's blocking their path? Technically the Path Interrupted message is there to prevent that, so if you're allowed to throw them you shouldn't have such issues in theory. In practice hiccups happen without the AI realizing it. E.g. during the Minthara fight I got Sazza cornered on a rubble pile. How did she use her Action Point? She healed us both. Turned out she tried to throw a healing potion at a fellow Goblin at low HP, but since my Tav was right at her face he blocked the (throwing) arc and made the potion broke on spot. So just do some field testing! Run to different spots and aim at different targets (it can be an empty space at a floor), then see if you can replicate the issue! Before everything else it's probably the best to see if it's not equipment related somehow.

You should have started with this. (I'm >>542232732.) Almost surely an obstruction issue. I run a thrower build with Karlach so I see a lot of how arcs work. The situation with explosives is that they take damage upon contact and since they only have a few (or 1) HP they get destroyed easily - which results a detonation. The throwing arc is usually the same forty-something degree wherever you're standing or aiming at, so I'm positive you can find an angle where your grenade should technically slide just below the parapet's roof but in practice the physical model of the grenade (which is seemingly not taken into consideration while calculating the path) hits the bottom of the roof and blows up in your face.

And this is from the same session except with a -1% Brightness. This is much closer of what you see on the screen while playing, but every time the scene switches there's a minimal chance the lightning gets fucked up in the adjusting process. Half of Dammon's first scene at the Inn with Karlach still plays out as if there was no roof above us and it fluctuates from scene to scene! Long story shot, the Underdark has much less lightning sources and they're less vibrant than what you see in broad daylight.

Excellent pick. Lots of potential attacks per round due to Action Surge and passives, Booming Blade as a cantrip, great defensive/utility spells to ensure your survival, 4 Feats so you can get all the goodies... It's also pretty straightforward to play and you don't seem to have a problem with reading in-game descriptions and tutorials to understand what Abilities are important for the class or how certain mechanics work.
