Current one uses the "fantasy system" but also seems to have some sort of hero based triggers that are totally broken. For example, I can feed 8/12 with Drow and still get MVP because I got 7 frost arrows kill + some silenced kills, despite doing less damage, less CS, less building damage, worst KDA than my allied dawn breaker (which to this day still has no MVP triggers).

I also remember going like 18/2 with invoker but since I got no sun strike kill/tornado kill(playing quas wex starting the fight with tornado), random carry wind ranger gets MVP because of her PowerShot kills.

Not to mention the retarded witch doctor / earthshakers that gets MVPs by existing

Current system sucks because it can't measure certain things that should be looked at to pick an "MVP". For example there's no "Disruption saves" metric of "how many times an ally was saved from chainstuns/Chrono/Duel/etc. in a match with Disruption" or "DD/Haste Runes dispelled with Demonic Purge from the enemy pos1 allowing my pos1 to 1v1 him when otherwise it would be a defeat".
But there is a measurable metric for "Shadow Poison damage", "Illusion building damage" or the generic "Dust leading to kills", even though something like "Disruption saves" would be far more important, and this is fine since I can't expect the game itself to measure that. But if it was a vote by the players then it could be appreciated and voted for instead of a WD getting it for free.

Each hero has modifiers like you can have on fantasy shit, usually making things that are very common on a hero less valuable so picking a hero in the wrong role and doing moderately well is almost a guaranteed mvp.
Each WD cask bounce counts as a separate stun so he racks up mvp points even though they nerfed how much he gains several times.

Huskar also benefits from this (burning spear kills and ult slows, like, why??). Meanwhile, when I play QoP, unless I go 20/0, I don't get triggers because all her nukes doesn't have any mentions and she needs to kill people with veil of discord or silence to have a boost (probably a throwback to old orchid builds, since her shard's silence is very short). Landing a 5 man sonic wave means shit for the trigger.
I mentioned KDA and CS because these are the most obvious stats, and at the same time, we have other broken stats as well (for example witch doctor) for supports, but also a lot of supports are ignored too.

I usually go by all three lanes get one sentry, mid and off get the first obs with exceptions when laning against heroes like pudge. Escessive sentries left in stock isn't a problem if there isn't an issue with enemy vision ruining ganks or getting your carry/mid killed before a fight. You should still be buying them though, just to keep the stock from filling up if you don't need them they can live in your backpack but at least you're regenerating sentries instead of having 10 in stock
