Merging companion stories into the main story was a mistake only because it means a poorly written character or one you dislike will ruin the entire story for you. I skipped all of Galbrena's story, but I loved how Iuno's story tied into the main story. I don't trust Kuro to not fuck it up like they did with Galbrena. Augusta wasn't bad but wasn't great either.

Merging them into the main story also means you can't explore the actual personal bits of the companion. Most companion stories would have no place in the main story because they were so much less important, but they were so much more revealing of the characters. I will never forget becoming a Wooly Warrior, or even the stupid fucking lion shit with half lion kid. But maybe one day I will forget the stories of Augusta and Iuno because they just blend into the main story and phase away.

Not to mention when characters come back later and you roll them you'll have no fucking clue who they are and at least with 1.x characters you have companion quests to tell you about them but with all the newer 2.x characters you get none of that so you are rolling a shell that is nothing more than their gameplay.

Not gonna lie, she is more my type than Changli design wise, but her gameplay felt way to similar to Augusta's, and her best team without the samurai dude(that I dont want) is also Augusta's team. Shit was so bad I just started skipping after Rover fell from the bridge and Galbrena had to bail him out, I have no idea how they defeated the dark tide or why it had cartethyia shape and I couldn't give less of a shit. How did we go from the kino that was 2.2, 2.4 and 2.5 (2.6 was decent) to this shit? Even when Galbrena leaves at the very end at the black shores Rover wanks her a bit more in front of Aalto, like yeah we know she can fly, and so can like half the cast it isn't impressive. I reeks of her being the OC of one of the writers. Thankfully it looks like this patch might do quite badly on sales, so that's good.

Shit is like 7 hours, when it could had been like 3. Other than that, it suffers from the same shit other patches do, but turned to 11. Even more forced walking segments, even more really easy but long fights with aero or spectro rover, more technomagical jargon that doesn't contribute to anything, the plot and characters changing tune and doing backwards flips to fit what the writer wants to wank, etc.

The only “living” thing that SHOULD be there is the threnodian. I’d say Kuro’s biggest strength is their cameraman the cutscenes they’ve made since 1.0 have always been top-notch. (Ngl, I got hooked from day one because of the Dreamless cutscene moment and cut through stone.)Cart vs rover fight cutscene, Cart + Rover scene at Septimont collosseum multiple timeline, Augusta’s Excalibur, and now this final scene ...all of them were amazing.

You can tell they went all out this time, though the first part felt a bit janky due to budget and time constraints. Some units weren’t even rendered properly, but they still chose to show the scene instead of just going with a black screen and narration like Hoyo does, and I really respect that.

I’d give it an 8.5/10 compare to my favourite one (like hsr penacony i give it 9/10) solid, and the best one since 1.0. The cameraman never disappoints me.
if they have budget and much more time to render first part i'll give 10/10 it such a mood kill. i can't imagine how peak it is if it really a rendered cutscene blackshores arrive.
