In Haunted Casino (Japan) for the Saturn after you get the key off the statue and go in the first door on the left what is meant to happen? It's a guy eating something and talking about russian roulette but it's just a black screen. Is there meant to be an FMV?

Why is it that Dolphin and PCSX2 have no problem automatically detecting and adding games to your library but in Retroarch this is a manual process and 25% of your roms aren't detected properly?

I just Everything (something you should have installed anyway, absolutely essential) and drag what I search for into an open Retroarch window. This makes a core selection prompt come up. The only exception is arcade games which are zipped in an 8 char format that isn't easy to search for, then I use dat/playlists.

I'm gonna guess you're using exclusive fullscreen, optimal framepacing, and the reduce latency option? I don't think you're a "VRR monitor owner" kind of guy, but they help a lot for emu lag. It's either that or disabling vsync and eating the tearing. The game itself may be laggy. I haven't done a lot of comparison between Duckstation, Mednafen, Swanstation as far as input lag goes. I barely use DS outside of seeing what you're talking about.

Of note about this VM: You do need to add the wrapper DLLs (wined3d, opengl32, ddraw) into the root/exe directory D3D/OGL games. The OS itself thinks there's no 3D accelerator and is completely blind to it. The DLLs allow the game to connect to the softgpu. Glide games like Unreal engine titles justwerk with the included wrapper built into Windows, no intervention necessary, and pretty damn well.

Is this for qemu-3dfx and windows 9x guest? Which wrappers u'r using besides the ones provided by qemu-3dfx? I typically use WineD3D for VMware and VirtualBox (for winxp guest) when the virtual GPU adapter is incompatible with the game. d3d8to9 seems useful, but from my testing, it’s incompatible with 32-bit Windows XP guest.

>>542143219
They come on the pre-mounted wrappers iso, but honestly you don't need it because you'll find them in the benchmark folders too, next to the exes. opengl32, wined3d, ddraw. Those need to be in any non-Glide game's folder next to the exe. That makes Qemu-3dfx and the justwerx build/setup on that github work with d3d/ogl. Highly recommended to set up FTP to the host as adding new files will suck otherwise. It's fast, though. Like 30mb/sec transfer.

>>542143596
yeah, qemu-3dfx seems like the best choice for running late 90s to early 2000s D3D6 games with great performance; no other IBM-PC emulator really keeps up for those. Not sure about D3D7~9 games that don’t work well with VboxVGA or SVGA3D, though. I don’t think it’s a great option for a Windows XP guest setup...

>>542144457
Yeah, I've yet to fuck with it at all in XP, and it has a few quirks in 9x. Wheel Of Time plays Quicktime movies back choppily. That one's a *real* bitch, and is a problem on modern Windows because of Quicktime as well.

I brought this up in a previous thread; xemu nailed Pentium III and NV2A emulation without going the very high-level emu approach. Yes, xemu is sticking to a single design (even though it has custom elements), and honestly, I bet most folks would be satisfied anyway with just emulating something like a Pentium 4 + D3D9c GeForce 6600. No need for adding dozens of other chips; that's only crucial for the Win9x era, which was a testing ground with lots of proprietary APIs and people still trying to figure out what the future would be.

It is. If you don't FTP to it and shuffle ISOs into it and mount via something like DT or similarly compatible 9x disc mounter, you'll have to shut down a lot. With these tools it's fairly handy though

>>542182519
So let me get this straight, you quite literally have to use virtual drive software from within Win98 itself? That's horrible, and the fact you even made it this far is a miracle in and of itself! You'd think there'd be some kind of workaround where you can mount ISOs using your host instead.

But for real, I'm at the home stretch right now, and at around level 08-09 is where the level design starts to fall apart. While the first half felt more open-ended, the second half went for tight corridors and invisible enemies. I'm glad that if you earn enough points in the "Hyperfunk Zone", you're given permanent Super Jars. (Which were incredibly useful for that singing bastard in a box, who normally takes a million hits to jar.) Later levels also introduce doors, and we all know mazes and doors are an excellent combo in Western platformers...

The amount of virtual machines/emulators you need to cover the gamut of weird 9x/NT games is insane, lol. tbf 86box + vbox/soft+ dg/ot natively are fine for most, but the exceptions sure are exceptions. This new qemu-3dfx setup is nifty for pure hardware acceleration but it sucks to use and has problems like this.

So basically, 3D stuff is what you want QEMU for, while more 2D stuff will probably be fine on either 86Box (for the older pre-Win95 and Win9x games) or a VM setup (for newer games). Is that about the gist of it?

It's just the videos in Wheel of Time that are all fucked up, in and out of game in the player. Could be my dump; will explore later. So maybe QEMU is just fine for most 2D stuff too. I use CRTs on the daily lately and do not see a significant motion clarity difference between it and my OLED. I am not saying it isn't there, but I'm glad to have slow-eyes and OLED is just-good-enough for me. I can *definitely* see it on conventional LED/LCD displays though, especially @ 60hz. Scrolling has hideous artifacts there.

How much does RAM impact emulation performance, especially on android? I'm looking at buying one of those chinese handhelds and the one I'm looking at has 8GB and 16GB options. It's a pretty drastic price difference; will I notice it in the performance?

Okey, figured out what is wrong. The parallel gs option doesn't have my gpu listed in the adapter settings, just gives me default which crashes the moment i start.
Probably a parallel gs issue and not your builds.

Looks like I've finally completed the game. I gotta say, for all its flaws, I got a lot of mileage out of this game. Stimpy's Invention was similar, although that game was way too short. If you want to play a co-op platformer that isn't Gunstar Heroes, definitely give Panic on Funkotron a chance. I'd only recommend Stimpy's Invention if you're an R&S fan, by which it's the only good game with that IP IMO.

How well though? Give us some details, something man.
>Oh great, what major bugs or features have they added?
Check the commit history. As I already said, the 2nd to last commit already includes a fix for a MacOS crash.
Really though, you seem to be missing the point; the emulator is not dead as it's still being actively updated. It's that simple.
>So basically nothing.
1 single commit out of 3818 commits as of writing.
>I would like that they actually fix game issues and not make it running on something that less than 1% of the userbase has.

So yeah gif, as bloated as it is, is the best medium for low frame count comparisons like this. Sorry. Gonna keep uploading 4mb files til they fix it lol

>>542385302
>yeah gif, as bloated as it is, is the best medium for low frame count comparisons like this.
bullshit. what a fucking retarded website that has gif uncapped but caps webm to 2040x2040. Niggatry of the highest order. The reason I tried to post the webm is because I can pause webm and compare images without having to wait for the cycle to complete.

Shotcut for making/editing webms and mp4s.
File Converter for rightclicking various filetypes and converting/compressing them. It's basically a quick n dirty ffmpeg GUI, just a simpler Handbrake. I can change the rendering settings with it, though, and maximize/increase it.

>Citron boots with the update but graphics breack when entering the city.
I was having that issue with Eden (on Deck, in case it's relevant). Found a post online suggesting going to Graphics > GPU Extensions (or just Extensions if you're going to the menu with the game running) > Slide "Extended Dynamic State" to 0
It's working so far, I managed to get out of the train station without the graphics exploding.
Ryujinx (installed through EmuDeck, in my case) also works out of the box, but the framerate is 15-25 vs Eden's 25-ish to 30.
Dunno if this works with the update and pre-order DLC installed, I haven't found a link for those that I trust enough, yet.

No.
Maybe.
Ask again 6 to 12 months after it's implemented.
We don't know what's the last Android version the RP5 makers are willing to support, and we also don't know how will the difference devs or managers of android emulators deal with it either.
For all we know they could decide to stop working on android releases entirely.

If you want to take a swing feel free, I had myself and a friend's computer networked through radmin VPN with xenia in the exceptions and pointed at a local XBL server.
We could attempt to connect and both games would register an attempt to connect to a server/a player attempting to connect (meaning at the very least the XBL service is functioning properly) but the connection would never finalize and would eventually time out.

Yuzu's shader comp hacks are pretty bad in Art of Balance as well. Its Vulkan backend was the only one that cooperated (barely), while the OpenGL backend was so stuttery it made Ryujinx look like it had async shaders by comparison. (Ironically, Art of Balance has the least broken graphics on Yuzu. Ryujinx has broken DOF in the menus.)

I don't like online games at the best of times though I've gotten Hamachi to work, but jesus put all that into your fork or something. That's not even including what you need to publicly host on WAN... what a disaster. Then there's Hamachi and Xenia itself to deal with. No. One should be paid to do this.

NTA and don't listen to his retarded ass
For Xenia netplay you're not hosting a dedicated server, you're just hosting an XBL service that facilitates matchmaking. 360 games use listen servers, and games that don't use listen servers don't have exposed server code anyone can use to make a real dedicated server.
It's not some big heavy service that requires a ton of CPU cores and network throughput, it's literally just handing off IP's and identifiers to the emulators.

BD is slower on average, more data per square inch. Although at 12x it's faster than DVD at 16x. IIRC PS3 could only do 2x since it was very early BD, so about 9MB/s. Xbox DVDs could do 16x, 16.5MB/s (a bit less for dual layer, probably 12-14MB/s).

"Scan Directory" uses the libretro database (
https://db.libretro.com) to create playlists.
The "easier" method is to create playlists using manual scan since it won't try to match the database.
You can set the file extensions, console, default core and then you can just refresh it when you add a new game to the directory.

Yes, in most cases. Now try an X68000 shmup that shoots out baroque 256/384/512x256 line resolutions that 15khz TVs typically don't like, then rotate your TV to get the proper vertical scanlines. So you have to flip the CRT on its side which is not trivial in some cases (more ideally you want a VGA monitor or PVM for this) then send a particular super resolution to it in the TV's case and a different super resolution in 120hz mode in the VGA monitor's case, then scale it back out.
see
>>542448153
X68000 being a 24khz machine makes things a bit tricky on most CRTs, if you want to use the original line count.

a 240hz lcd with bfi and crt filter will look much better than the most premium crt, that's just undeniably true, better colors, better resolution, faster refresh rate and motion blue tackled

Surprised AM5 and its boards are projected to last til 7. I was planning on whaling out on an 11800X3D when it drops. Didn't even plan on my board lasting longer. I imagine by 7 some boards will fall off, even with the same slot and memory, though. Just depends on the capabilities and whether the manufacturers roll out BIOS updates for it, I suppose.

>>542579162
idk if the boards will fall off, probably will, but the ram will, because zen 6 will redesign the memory controller, and we're getting ddr5 8000 nowadays, so 6000~6400 will be slow by then, honestly wouldn't be surprised with 9600mhz by zen 7 and EOL ddr5, ddr4 started at 2133 and ended at 3600 jedec

I've been searching around for the last 24 hours or so on answers to this but I can't find shit. I downloaded Ryubing (both stable and canary version), and some other forks of Ryujinx (mirror, and some other ones), but neither seem to work on my PC (Win10, Ryzen 5600x, RX 6600XT, 32GB RAM). Everytime I open the .exe file, it just opens up a CMD prompt and immediately closes. Pic related is what I can get out of the prompt with screen capture milliseconds before it closes.
I have Eden and Citron on my PC and they both work just fine, albeit with some graphical issues here and there. Also, prior to trying out the newer versions of Ryujinx/Ryubing, I had the old official version of Ryujinx on my PC that worked perfectly without any issues. Am I missing a DLL or something? Or a package of some sort? I've searched all over leddit, different board archives, several discords, and nothing. The only place I really haven't searched is through the Ryubing discord, but you need to have a hacked switch in order to receive help from them.

It's a .NET 9 issue regarding CET protection, you can't run programs compiled with it past certain version on Windows 10 but there's a workaround:
Go to Windows Security -> App & browser control -> Exploit protection, and switch to "Program settings" tab
Click "Add program to customize" -> "Choose exact file path", then go to your Ryujinx.exe, and click "Open"
In the newly opened dialog, scroll down to "Hardware-enforced Stack Protection", check "Override system settings", and make sure the toggle is set to "Off"

As for QT, at least vindicated that you are having sound issues with it as well, though not exactly the same results. Could you post your script or setup for your 98 machine? Hell. Just post what you have on the wiki or here like you were suggesting earlier if you want. I fully accept that I'm a dummy and learning as I go with QEMU.

Wonder if it's your loonix accel/audio API resulting in a different, but still not ideal QT outcome. Pretty similar to mine for 98 w/ winhost overall. I think I'll just have to accept that QT just doesn't perform as it should under QEMU for whatever reason and Vbox + SoftGPU will have to be kept around for that, or 86box for lower end titles that use QT. QT fucking sucks.

CRTemudrivers? VGA monitor or TV? Or are you just using a digital display? Presuming CRT if 240p's in the mix.

>>542644624
I should have lead with some more details, I guess. Yes, it's a VGA CRT monitor. I have an NVidia GPU if that matters. I've been trying to piece together how to force 240p on this thing since even 480 (the lowest it can normally go) on games I was emulating didn't satisfy me. Every tutorial I've seen leaves out details or has a bunch of essential info hidden behind dead links. I'm a total noob to this stuff. To give you an idea:
>CRTemudrivers

The gist of it is, you can indeed force 240p on a PC CRT by adding a custom modeline through the Nvidia drivers, but it needs to be at 120 Hz, and this will introduce motion blur unless you pair it with black frame insertion. The alternative is to use 480p and just use the interlacing.slangp shader, which will basically do the same as the above, but with 480i support. Either way, you'll get half the brightness unless you compensate through your monitor's setting somehow.

There isn't a 'new' qt launcher. The qt launcher is just the frontend code of current shadps4 in its own repo and no one is working specifically on it, anything being done on it would've been done to shadps4's frontend anyway. The actually new launcher is made with Tauri, and is being done by 1 guy who has only done a few commits to shadps4 and only frontend code. So yeah, you're dramabaiting post is wrong in every single way.

AMD card with VGA out by any chance? Consider them. You can then choose the 31khz 120hz preset and get native scanlines, either way, those will justwerx the modes you need. Otherwise you'll have to look into how it works in Nvidia land. Not quite as well documented/supported but it should be possible somehow. There's also GroovyArcade Linux which works on all GPUs to get scanlines/legit low res modes.

>The alternative is to use 480p and just use the interlacing.slangp shader, which will basically do the same as the above, but with 480i support.
What does this even mean? I tried using 640x480 with that shader and it looked horrible, any "super resolution" like what the wiki suggests just causes my monitor to have a heart attack when I test it out.

>>542651245
>I don't understand what you're talking about at all.
The way CRTs work is they display a given number of lines in a frame, and they display those frames at a given frequency in Hz (that is, how many frames are drawn and displayed in a second). Older games told the CRT to display 262~ line frames at a frequency of 60 Hz (this is the vertical refresh rate), which when multiplied gives us what's known as the horizontal frequency of 15.7 KHz. This is the frequency of regular old CRT TVs, what you hooked consoles up to.
PC CRTs, however, do not have the ability to display at such a low horizontal frequency, but rather are made to display at at least twice that, hence 640x480@60Hz, one of the baseline resolutions for such displays, outputs at a horizontal frequency of 31.5 KHz. So 240p output like on consoles is completely out of the question for a PC CRT, UNLESS you double the vertical refresh rate to 120 Hz, which then gives you the 31.5 KHz frequency a PC CRT wants. You may be able to take the numbers seen in picrel and just halve them, double the vertical refresh rate, and that'll give you the 240p@120 Hz modeline you want. You'll get VERY bright, authentic 240p scanlines this way.
The problem is, games weren't made to be displayed at 120Hz. What will happen, then, is the emulator will display "doubled" frames, and this is going to cause a ghosting effect of sorts in motion. There's no avoiding this other than by taking out the duplicated frames, and this can be achieved through RetroArch's Black Frame Insertion feature. This will correct the motion and make everything smooth again, but unfortunately it will also halve the brightness, so the scanlines will appear dull and sterile. The only way to counteract this is through your monitor settings, but that may ruin contrast, white or black levels, etc.

>>542653594
As for the 480p super resolution alternative, it was developed because some older games (primarily 5th-gen ones) either display at 480i (that is, with interlacing, where only the odd or even lines are displayed every frame) or switch to 480i midgame (for example, in the menus in Chrono Cross), and the 240p modeline described above is incapable of properly displaying that, cutting out half the lines entirely. The idea then is to use a shader that just adds black lines for 240p content and interlaces 480i content. Yes, this will look dark and bad at first, because you're literally taking out half the lines in each frame, so you'll end up with dim scanlines, but the same is true of 240p@120Hz plus BFI.
On my own testing on my old PC CRT, I found no visual difference between the two methods, except that at least with the 480p method, I had support for interlacing. And my CRT just happened to have a feature that increased brightness greatly without ruining image quality, and it came in handy here. But if your monitor cannot properly compensate for the loss of brightness, then I'm afraid it's a case of choosing your poison. You can run 240p@120Hz without BFI and deal with the shittier motion and no interlacing support, 240p@120Hz+BFI or 480p+scanline/interlacing shader and deal with the dull, dim image plus whatever brightness compensation you can get out of your particular CRT, or forget the whole thing and just run at 480p@60Hz, which is to say a bit blocky but at least the image will be sharp, vibrant, and with beautiful motion.
As for super resolutions, kinda strange that your CRT doesn't seem to like it, but again, halving the numbers may do the trick.

If I do that, my monitor either tells me that it's not supported, or just goes blank when I hit "test" (I'm using nvidia control panel to do all of this, btw). Halving the numbers does absolutely nothing, my monitor just refuses to display anything when I try to test the resolution.

I feel compelled to answer anyway:
Run in GPU copy instead of exclusive fullscreen, enable vsync without VRR at 60hz, disable any sort of game modes on your TV/monitor. Some LCD shaders in Retroarch have low pixel response simulation too, but that's more for interframe blending. May add lag if cranked up, though. With DS4Windows you can set the poll rate absurdly low too.

Pretty much no arcade game came out acceptably on PS2. Reminded of Castle Shikigami. Marvel vs Capcom 2... it goes on and on. They are all interlaced and/or blur up the content terribly. They rarely, if ever, give you an unmolested 240p mode. They're always scaled up to PS2 shitvision.

We're not at the point in every gook rpg made before the year 2000 where the plot dies and there's no logic or through-line at all for how you're expected to progress. You beat what should have been the final boss at the halfway point and now a completely new plot is happening. You're told to "investigate" the demons which obviously means nothing to you as the player. You might interpret that you're meant to go to the whirlpool that was blocking your way before if you can remember where it is because nothing on the map is labelled. But that just tells you to find the name of a guardian whatever the fuck that means. What you're actually meant to do is go to a random town and talk to a random nondescript NPC standing in a corner to set the flag that lets you continue. I think this sort of dogshit is cultural. Because game development in the land of underwear vending machines isn't considered a respectable career at all. The only people that pursue it are losers that have washed out of every other profession.

I assume level design and narrative were two different departments on different floors because the dungeon design is shockingly good. Well thought out not the usual bullshit labyrinth. Reasonable encounter rate and fine puzzles. But narrative, IE what you're meant to do to move forward, must have been huffing paint or some shit because it's full of this sort of nonsense. "Talk to this random person" or "do this complete non sequitur action" or we'll brick wall you. I will praise duckstation's cheat system for being robust, simple and easy to use for allowing me to shut off random battles as I wander around in this desolate patch of fuck all looking for the pixel I need to stand on to progress.

His personal changes seem like bruteforcing/vibe coding with 0 understanding. It was justified back when other people had significant WIP PRs he merged before main, but now pretty much everything is done for bloodborne feature wise

It does matter. If you want to broaden your emulation scope on 3DS, you'd have to rely solely on the New 3DS models. As for playing N64 games on 3DS, you're not going to have a great time. That said, VirtualBoy emulation is pretty solid on 3DS, even with the older model.

fuck mac emulating
why does everything have to suck in some way, shape, or form? whiskey isn't updated anymore and requires a shitload of fiddling just to get steam running, then more just to get past the glitches of game downloading stopping/getting stuck on initializing or some other shit, and you have to make sure it never restarts or gets into a certain other glitch or you have to delete the bottle and start all over again.
crossover is aids, works normally but it melts my computer by just running the steam app. my fans get so loud by 10% of any install an don't even get me started on running any actual games.
setting up wine is the same shit but longer to get ready, still melts my stuff
