Pharaoh really does it for me. There is a lot of emphasis put onto making battles feel like a violent, bloody struggle for dominance and/or survival, and they do it well.
Have you tried any of the animations mod for ToB? I don't know if it would help or not, but in other total wars the animations mods usually make battles more cinematic, especially the ones that make infantrymen duel each other.

Tides of Torment is only receiving a short delay. We will get it before December.

Reports seem to indicate that CA is using the extra development times for Tides of Torment to further expand the map. The FLC lord is also being enhanced with more in-depth mechanics.

That's what I like about it, I can understand how it's not for everyone but it feels fitting for bronze age battles. Two armies of men wearing furs and bronze throwing themselves at each other. And the lethality is really depends on units available, for example in Assuwa you get 2h clubs at T1 and they will easily get 100-200 kills in early game battles if you cycle charge them, but in Lower Egypt the native units just kind of suck until like T3.

There's a discord for the historicals (and a discord for the historical and warhammer) mods but I never poked around the former, and the latter I only looked into when I had issues to resolve. In a way I miss old TWC - autism in excess but discord is terrible for any kind of 'forum-y' exchanges.

Speaking of modding and cinematography (since why work on these textures when most of the time your view is up in the air) I'm closer to finishing the Trojans, since body armor is done with and now it's headgear and then shields. I frankly dislike the figure 8 shields they currently have so I am either going to flatten those to be more dipylon-y and less 'literal fucking fridge' or give them different ones.

I suffered the usual mistake when I've modded of 'too much detail that you never notice' since when you're in substance painter it's fun to digital miniature-paint embroidery and shit but even scale armor on the helmet is lost detail wise unless you are really balls deep up close. So I am trying to remember in future stuff to be less meticulous.

The issue is they're not planning ahead well enough. If you are short on people, don't do so many things at the same time. Most of those excluding the splendid generic item reworkare raw, undone, unreleased and definitely, with 100% certainty, delayed the DLC's release, which fucking directly caused the whole shitstorm. They need to look at their teams in Bulge Arya and Bongland, figure out "we can't do all of this at the same time", and don't spread themselves thin over 50 thousand things

Total War: Warhammer (Fantasy) is genuinely complete. They are deep into meme fanfiction and scratching an absolute bottom of the barrel in order to desperately still find something to add. It only misses some named characters, but game map simply wasn't designed around so many playable factions and LH proved to be a bad concept as well. On top of this people are simply burned out after playing for all those thousands hours and no dlc/update will rekindle this fire

All this talk about "abandoning" title like this for the sake of their next big project sounds very pathetic to be honest and I'm not sure what the fuck people even want. This is actually the one Total War which fully deserves to be retired already. Especially Chaos content is a meme. Champions of Chaos was actually needed to complete monogod factions, and an omission of it's content in a base game is damning to begin with, but every dlc beyond this only adds some random, gimmicky shit or low effort reskin you won't even recruit if you do have those dlcs.

They should fix those bugs and fuck off honestly and unironically. Their only issue is that they still have no next big TW ready to even showcase, let alone out and playable.

Turn 58, Tyrion let Noct traipse about the east coast in the early game while I was trying to find a way to deal with Slaneesh and the Drowned who declared on me as I finished taking the shrine of Khaine region. Yvers got his ass kicked by something and was no help, Then when I finally finished taking the north I had to go all the way to that little shithole island because the asshole wouldn't peace out. Then Noct declared on me while I was over there, and by some miracle I had a fresh stack to meet him. But when I beat his shit in with ambushes Tyrion just swooped in and ate the entire West coast and Ellyrion. And because he was so much stronger he still won't confed even on turn 60. Blood Voyage every few turns, then they all declare on me once the Sisters died and the second Conehead glimpsed me, boom, war. I'm beyond fucked. On a more serious note, the voyage will go for the shrine 9/10 times. Get some walls and the unqiue landmark there, along with a respectable garrisoned army (of archers) should keep it secure. I tend to quickly deal with the minor delf faction, might require some cheese to take the gate without too many casualties. Deal with Slaanesh, double Alarielle back to the inner donut and deal with Saphery, or if Tyrion is spanking them, deal with Noctulus. Remember that you're going to be rolling in influence with how many cities Alarielle visits, use it generously.

You only really "needed" the handmaiden dlc in wh2 because ranged units were straight up better than anything else in the game, but in wh3 your melee options do the job just as well. I would actually say Eltharion is a more necessary dlc because it adds elite spearmen and wizard lords, both are very good in the late game. High Elves are just fine without dlc though, unlike wh3 races

His personal army is really strong because everything gets devastating flanker, so use a front line of stormvermin or clanrats and flanking units of your choice (death runners, wolf rats, and doom flayers are all good picks)
Tretch himself is pretty tanky but he doesn't really do much besides that
if you want to, you can even recruit an eshin sorcerer to blob up the ai for your flanking, but I admit that is a little extra
as for his faction, it is indeed weaker than most other skaven, but pretty much like queek just drown them in clanrats and eventually stormvermin, although you can get stormvermin earlier because of the landmark he gets. Then just back them up with monsters and spellcasters, maybe some plague monks if you're fighting queek
don't underestimate his upgraded scurry away effect either, makes it easy to surround the enemy with trash since your fleeing clanrats will come back with decent combat strength, and often from angles you weren't able to attack from before

It's not a great campaign. All your armies are identical and every battle plays out the same. You kite Jade Warriors with the skirmish rats and use Death Runners to sneak up on their missile units. You're heavily disincentivized from using other units until the very late game or even using other lords.
The campaign mechanic of interacting with the other clans also feels like a let-down, since it's still nigh impossible to confederate them.

Ikit also suffers from the problem of leaning into certain units too heavily, but at least those are high tier units that can be further upgraded. Snikch just walks around with the same crapstacks for the entire game. I hope that they ultimately add a Skaven LL (Thanquol soon) that encourages using all the units in their roster and that can confederate the other LLs.
