What's peak comfy colonist count in your opinion? I think the limiting factor is feeding them because past a certain point the planting just becomes too much of a space hog and disrupts the flow of the colony.
I feel like my colonies always start to bloat out of control once I need to throw down a third hydroponics setup just to feed them.

Medieval Overhaul mod in itself does not regulate tech in any way. You need to use a separate mod for that, and World Tech Level can allow you to just play at industrial tech.

While ancient corp adds in the Atlant Grenade launcher, which has more range than the vanilla grenade launcher. Has lower weight+bulk, has higher fire rate, high capacity, and lower manufacturing cost than the mech variant. Legit just straight up better.

Another example is the shotguns,

All the new weapons are russian/analogs to russian weapons. Might be some russoid cope going on with this submod.

The only mod on my list I would say is stupid and pisses me off is progression:agriculture which makes it so you need seeds before you can grow any plant or you need 10 of the object to make a seed bundle, like 10 potatoes can make a potato seed bundle and once you open it your colony can now grow potatoes. Once you get the seeds you can now grow that thing forever. Most scenarios start with some basic seeds but the one I'm doing did not and we've not have a farming trader come by. While the mod is stupid and annoying and has gotten a few colonies wiped due to no fucking food hunting down and finally obtaining the seed bundles brings joy like no other, I mean it feels really fucking good to finally be able to grow something adn that far outweighs any negative from it. Also on the realism side if you land somewhere random you're not just gonna be able to grow shit willy nilly.

I like the flavor it adds by not letting me plant anything I want, and it gives me an excuse to add some bloated mods that add so many plants that I'd usually ignore 90% of them (I'm looking at you VPE - More Plants). But there are so many minor annoyances.
Seed packing in particular is fucked. I like the idea of replanting wild plants, but unless you have a mod that makes food crops grow in the wild, it just means you'll be harvesting berry bushes and use them to pack strawberry seeds. And buying seeds is often pointless compared to just buying the harvested product and packing the seeds yourself, particularly for wood, dyes, fabrics, and chocolate, which are sold much more frequently than their respective seeds.
Come to think of it, maybe it would play better with VGP, since that adds a processing step to stuff like fabrics so that you can't get cotton seeds from a roll of cloth.

Multiple times in year 1, a spouse or child of a pawn would randomly be generated in an enemy raid. Then it's happened again in year 2. My colony is currently only being sustained by my builder, and the game just generated her a son and made him one of the imperials guarding the 2 neuroformers for the Deserter quest. Previously, my Moral Guide's son was generated as a raider and died in 4 hits from an un-upgraded ghoul.
When my pen animals were starving over winter, the first crop of my hydroponic rice that I rushed to grow to save them contracted blight just before they were harvestable.
When I accepted a quest that would have 2 pirate gangs raid me, I randomly got hit with another raid simultaneously, so I was fighting off 3 factions at once.
It's like the worst thing that could happen keeps happening.
I tried to tame some horses to get to the Deserter quest outpost faster and predators proceeded to kill the fucking horses before I could tame them.
I tried to tame a boomalope in year 1 for some free chemfuel because I kept running low on power and a fucking meteorite crushed it and set off a forest fire, destroying a swath of the woodland I had marked for chopping for my wood-powered generators.

Nope, because of how long it takes to get through 1 lifetime even on max settings and the amount of pawns you need to have a healthy generation of kid leads to basically no story or development of individuals. Your initial colonist will still be around even on the slowest possible settings by the time you unlock research/items that negate the effects of old age, and since there is no hard cap on lifespan your initial colonist is effectively immortal if they can survive any disease.
