It has nothing to do with Japan having an imaginary "innate aversion" to it, which doesn't even make sense. SA1 and 2 sold well on release week, and Sonic did decently in the arcades in the 90s, so that right there already debunks your weird "aversion" claims you're trying so hard to push.

I don't see it working with actual classic-style level design, and Utopia itself is doing nothing to show how that would work.
