The problem is that players are basically forced to settle for "this is good enough, I guess", when there's a certain satisfaction in having a perfect loadout with perfect substats and numbers. I see no reason why the game has to put so much RNG in the way of this ideal. There's no reason why you can't pay like 3-4 million shell credits or maybe like 100 of one of pic related materials for a single perfect echo that has all the best stats.
Forcing players to spend absurd amounts of in-game materials is still gonna create player retention anyway, the only difference is that players aren't at the mercy of insane RNG. Why do we have to be at the mercy of RNG and waste so much time in menus?

Idk man, the quality control may be lower this patch but is understandable given the scope of the patch. Honestly it doesn't strike me as being much worse than before, there were always bruh animations, broken lypsinc and missing sound effects galore. Always. Galbrena saving the day makes sense to me, as she was ome of the first victims of the tide, she has explicit ties to augusta and they both ended up being a decent choice as harbingers of uhhhh whatever it's called. Could've been introduced earlier, still seems good enough for a wrap on an already uneven story. As has been the case up till now, the side bits, the filler bits is where the narrative shines. The overarching story will take a while tp pick up after that launch disaster.

Yeah this is a very legitimate complaint, going through a big stockpile of echoes and partially leveling them still takes way too long despite several QoL improvements since launch. I think I have like... 2000 locked echoes atm? I don't think time spent in menus is intentional or particularly desired by the decision-making gambling psychology pencil pushers, it's probably an unanticipated failure in UX design. Which is why they've been consistently trying to reduce it.

I can see something like this being the solution they ultimately land on. They'll math out that the average cost of a double-crit echo is X base echoes, Y tubes, W tuners, and Z credits, then just let you stick those materials directly into a meat grinder instead of spending 10 minutes going through those X base echoes yourself. Which will probably be the only way my 2000 locked echoes ever get used.

Addiction is something you have to manage yourself. The game doesn't go out of it's way to advertise fomo bundles every time you login, but they share mechanics with many other gacha that are generally pretty bad. Two of its latest entries, Sunbreak and Iceborne (haven't played Wilds because I can't afford a PC good enough to play it), has some of the most miserable endgame gear optimization grinding of any game I've played. In the former, there is a system called armor augmentation where you basically are doing something similar to echo substat dice rolling. You could literally spend hours at a blacksmith trying to get perfect RNG for the armor skills you want and absolutely not get them.
Same with Elden Ring. A third of all weapons and armor in that game is only exclusively available via RNG drops from specific enemies.
Then again, maybe it's not just an Asian RPG fetish. Maybe it's just RPG fetishes in general, because western RPG games like Diablo 2 and Path of Exile have ludicrous RNG-based loot drops as well.
I guess for a lot of people, being able to get what they want via single digit percentage rate RNG (or sub-single digit percentage rate RNG) is like winning a lottery. It's a dopamine hit for them.
