Personally, I've never played XIV, but seeing its popularity during that time period made me hate both it and him to an outrageous degree. While Dawntrail's MSQ is certainly an irredeemable piece of shit, your post is not true. Lowest numbers since Shadowbringers (5.3, covid, free trial meme, etc), perhaps, but not lowest numbers ever. While I do not deny that Dawntrail's MSQ is trash, there are multiple factors at play here including the new ability to hide Lodestones which is how this data is and was collected. It is not a coincidence that the first drop off in the meme shitpost chart happened immediately after this option was introduced. That's not to say that there aren't people leaving because WoW is apparently not completely dogshit again so at least some of those people probably went back, and anyone playing primarily for the MSQ is... well honestly, I think people who play primarily for the MSQ might actually be the Bluesky type of people who supposedly liked Dawntrail, but people who play primarily for content and then secondarily because the MSQ has traditionally been either good or decent - some of those people might have checked out. I know that the main reason I've ever resubbed in Dawntrail is only to keep my house, not to play the game or experience the MSQ, and for a good while there (8 or 9 months I believe) they had demolitions turned off so I was not subbed at all during that time. Reminder that there is nothing "LGBT" about XIV. It is unfortunate that a Kate used her position to get one of her unqualified tranny VA friends hired to voice Wuk Lamat, but that has nothing to do with the character, and it was only in English. If anyone wasn't already playing with Japanese voices, they switched to Japanese voices because of Wuk Lamat's tranny VA. Keep in mind, Wuk Lamat is still a bad character even with a cute genki Japanese girl voicing her, but there is actually nothing actually LGBT about Wuk Lamat. Again, no. For Opera Omnia specifically, what killed it was the paid gem cap that they introduced to JP. It caused the JP whales to quit the game, and for a long while GL was making 2-3x as much as JP was. Unfortunately, if the JP version is shitting the bed, I think it has to EoS if it's a JP game. Also, that Atellier gacha (also Team Ninja) was coming out shortly after the OO EoS announcement, so I think it was a decision that Team Ninja made, not necessarily Square Enix.

I remember watching a retrospective about BD and the Literal Who basically said it wasn't bad, but it wasn't very memorable either. He also speculated why next to no one talks about it is because the Guch failed to capture the classic, cozy 90s JRPG feeling and by the time LO came out and FF13 was announced, BD looked dated by comparison, since Japs were really trying to push JRPGs forward with 7th gen tech and appeal to the west hard at the time.

Opera Omnia was also somewhat of a Nomura vanity project. It was the first time that most of the Final Fantasy characters ever received an official voice actor/actress, and Nomura was the one who got the final say on who got to voice which character. I know we were all celebrating the MtG collab success because of what it did for SE shareholder value and proved FF characters are still profitable.
But in the long run it might have been [bad news] instead of [good news] because it sent SE the message that they're better off milking the characters through collabs and gacha than actually using them to make cool new things, or original new entries.

While I don't actually think that new mobile game will do this, I feel some form of lobby-based ARPG where you take on XIV-like encounters (think Dragalia Lost) could work as a low budget game. In this case, it'll probably just dry up and die in a year though.

It's a bad thing. Hopefully that's just a bogus post and not real. Ingress is what all the "Go" games are based on (Pokemon, Dragon Quest, etc) and it was originally used by people riding their bikes to places and kinda getting rewarded for it with a sort of PvP and/or Capture the Flag type deal that used your GPS and real world location. You'd bike out to a place, capture it, and then if someone took it you'd bike out and capture it back. This is basically the same thing that happens with Pokemon Go, but you capture Pokemon in the "real world" and use them in Gym battles and afaik it's mostly people walking.

It's not a game, it's an excuse to go outside.

It's also unlikely that it's a GO clone, so it's wise to bet against that so you can claim victory when it isn't and laugh at the doomers who said otherwise.

I just know that I hate mobile controls. I think a turn-based game is perfect for mobile because you are not limited by the touch screen controls. If there are highly involved Savage type fights in this new Dissidia game, and if it's mobile only with no PC client, I don't know how good it could possibly be. Even running it on an android emulator probably wont salvage it (for me) if that's the case. For some reason, console emulators are fantastic and run games flawlessly and in many cases run games even better than they do on original hardware, yet in my experience mobile games always run way worse on emulator than on an actual phone.

Gachas are their own thing and they are free, and they generate a shit ton of revenue and can occasionally actually be fun. Collabslop, such as MtG, are blatant cash grabs that require you to spend money to experience and they often ruin the underlying thing that is getting the collab. MtG was on the downward track to shitsville ever since they introduced the Planeswalker card type, but covid solidified MtG descent into shittiness when they banned "racist" cards due to BLM, and then afterwards it stopped pretending to be a card game and chose instead to purely become a vehicle to sell collabslop.
