I just beat Lost Lace, ending was amazing but I gotta say, I feel this game is a bit too hard. Some of the bosses, specifically Groal, Lost Lace and Karmelina go over the line. I'm not saying the game should be easy, but holy fuck, that was too much. If I do a next playthrough I'll probably go all out on stuff like plasmium vials and cogflies, once was enough.

Not really, people are just bad and expected braindead enemies like HK and got miffed at 2 damage attacks. There is only one area that is as close to as demanding as the White Palace platforming and its like 1/3 the length.

The platforming is overall much harder than in HK even if nothing is really on the same level as White Palace, but that's cause Hollow Knight platforming outside of White Palace was pretty easy
Mount Fay, Sands of Karak and Cogwork Core are the three hardest platforming challenges and they're tougher than anything in basic HK

Huh. Guess I'll have no issues with it then. Well aside earlygame. Frankly my problems with Hollow Knight were most there. At the early game the nail just scratches and it takes until the Greenpath for me to get the Dash to properly maneuver the enemies somewhat. And Team Cherry were completely open about it being because Hornet is more fragile but faster, IIRC they explained that shit in 2019 and talked about how Hornet's fragility and big heal are supposed to let her bounce between full health and nearly dead quickly.

I do think his plan was basically doomed either way though, really he got extremely lucky things played out how they did. Even if the Hollow Knight had worked out and contained Radiance perfectly, now there's a seething ocean of shades crawling towards the surface constantly and they have the potential to be stronger than the HK or Radiance ever were, if the narrative wasn't "nice little ghost kills the evil god and staves off the infection" it could have just as easily been "vengeful spirit of darkness tears down civilization built on the sacrificed corpses of countless of its brothers"

I'm at ~2H30M on my speedrun attempt. I have the Architect's song and got the Whispering Vaults pale oil.

I feel tempted to try to get the Great Taste of Pharloom Pale oil, but I get the feeling trying that would take a large chunk of time. I'm fairly sure if I just go get the next 2 songs I'll easily get the <5 hours achievement, but I dunno I'm somewhat feeling gutsy. How long DOES it roughly take if you're going fast, but not "I'm an actual speedrunner with stupid reflexes and movement tech" fast?

He's fast, but very predictable. Watch the edge of the arena for the dust to know where he will emerge. The little guys aren't true adds, just part of the overall attack pattern. Just dodge them. When he stops to spit his projectile, smack it back at him. Focus more on dodging, and sneak in hits whenever able. Your best heal window is when he crosses horizontally. Position yourself above or below his path and begin your bind before he pops out, and you'll be healed before he comes back in

well you need double jump still. for the ingredients themselves, the crustnut is a significant detour and will probably take 15-25 minutes off the run. nectar and muckmaggot are dangerous with 5 masks; you could end up dying and retrying them, losing more time. rasher and stew are the easiest ones, but you don't have the luxury to clear enemies beforehand for the rasher.

Mount Fay doesn't take much time and the reward is worth it for easier map traversal and combat.

Sub 5 hour speedrun achievement success! That was overall VERY fun! I almost want to do it again to just see what else I can do within 5 hours. For this I did some out of the way stuff like getting silkspeed, going for both free needle upgrades, and getting flintslate. Kinda want to do something like "go into the slab for the hell of it, get double jump, whatever else"

Route was my own based on my own knowledge of the game/map though I did need a reminder where the sacred psalm cylinder was (in my original playthrough, I found it basically by idly exploring and thus forgot where it was).
Definite hurdles:

As mentioned in other posts: I got used to Lost Lace and thus basically entirely forgot how Lace 2 works. She feels more like glue and has some really sudden punishes and it took me a while to remember how she works.

If I remember right, you can't really break it. If you have double jump (not sure if you need to do the double jump TRIGGER, as in going up mount fay) you can go through wisp thicket into the citadel. However, if you don't have double jump that way is blocked off. I've also heard that some mandatory needolin cutscenes will always progress even if you don't actually have needolin.

Therefore, assuming all you really need is double jump, you can go through wisp thicket, beat the dancers, get the 3 songs and beat the game quite quickly.

I'm on my first playthrough of HK and I'm loving it so far I've beaten the Hollow Knight once so far and did the warrior path and I'm just finishing up the rest of the game now.

Uumuu is probably my favourite boss so far really fun mechanics.
Queen's Gardens is my favourite area in the game and Deepnest and Royal Waterways are both joint worst areas in the game.

Weaversong has been my favourite crest so far. I've got a little summon build of weaver, Grimmchild and sometimes the womb crest along with a soul increase crest.

Steel soul run lost in voltnest

I'm PRETTY pissed. I knew I should've just save/quit teleported out of there. The thing that got me was the environment...I thought they had patched out double damage? Or perhaps I got hit with contact damage + environment damage? It happened immediately and that was that.

On the bright side (???) having gotten the speedrun achievement I now know how to get stuff faster and on my next attempt should be able to gather bullshit much more rapidly than this rather slow paced steel run I had been doing.

There are multple places. Theres a spot up a wallclimb location in the mid right of Hunters March, and a fly right outside the Greymoor fast travel spot.

I think there is something to be said about hand drawn animated games and difficulty (cuphead, hk), like, the devs feel compelled to make them stupid hard because they spent years working on the graphics, so they want the player to die a lot so that they are forced to stare at their art for many hours

I did this with a modded NG+ save yes I cheated, I know and I think I see now why they don't include NG+ in the game, having all your tools and abilities and skills from the start completely trivializes the game

Beat Silksong, then went back to Hollow Knight. After replaying around 75% of HK, I have to say that SS was better. Sure, there are certain things that HK did better, especially in the area of ambience, but SS was way more fun. Some complain about SS's linearity, but I feel that's a sidegrade. The map isn't as open as Hollow Knight's is, but the more linear structure allows for much better challenge escalation and less aimlessness.

I'm not some super elite player, I died in the Coral Tower, I died a whole lot against Karmelita, but this one wasn't just a oneshot but an easy oneshot with absolutely no "lock in" moment required. I was super sloppy and took a bunch of hits I could have avoided but still always had the silk to heal right back up, and healing in the air was always 100% free with no ability to be punished.

The Soul Sanctum is full of bugs who became deformed from Soul experimentation, so I could see that being the avenue that takes it from mental to physical.

Honestly, kind of weird how little discussion is put into how Pharloom looked like before GMS. Not even just the places, but also the other gods that lived there (Faytorn, possibly the sylphean slugs, Pale Stag, Nyleth and also possibly a god for the coral guys).
Also, are the craw related to the Faytorn? They are both very birdlike, and the craw seem to be holding on better than even the ants, as seen in the craw father and jurors. Plus we never do see their eyes. Maybe they are some sort of godly offspring of the Faytorm that got conquered by Silk before the days of the Citadel, driving their god away into what is now Mt.Fay, though she can't kill it so her fake daughters find it.

And we cannot be sure of the timeline. If first sinner was imprisoned *first*, and THEN the weavers rebelled, it would absolutely imply that GMS is a very domineering and judgmental ruler and "mother", and further underscore that Weavers were right to fear her and to feel deep disappointment.

Especially when they most likely carried out extremely brutal pogroms in her name and image.

All the rulers before Silk were going the domination Path. Khann conquered half of Pharloom. The game makes it a big point that everyone has a desire for power Old Hearts, Silk, Weavers, Conductors , Hornet herself.
First sinner was most definetly an active participant in the rebellion via her dreamnail dialogue talking about "our Silk, our Rage" , with absolution denied by the Citadel , I've seen theories that she was Atla but I'm not sure.

Flea dodge is bar none the absolute most cancerous bullshit in the entire game but persevere and you'll get it. Bounce is easy and Juggle is annoying but doable
You can finish act 3 without the needle upgrade anyway, it'll just take a bit longer to kill bosses or you can edit the pale oil into your savefile if you know how
