I am ok with big dick high commitment, but they should only be marginally better and unsafe to use if you don't have a big opening. Wyvernfire is a good example, Perfect Rush is perfect for this.
Big Dick move becomes too good and it will overshadow the rest of the kit. If it was like GS, which entire premise was doing the same move over and over again, fine, but SA and IG had different identities.
I think when people shout "balance" they actually meant "make the weapon moveset worth a dime" rather than "give me TCS numbers", but based on what is happening Tokuda team seems to think of the latter.

Yeah: World made a truckload of money so they doubled down on the "Western AAA" appeal and shot themselves in the foot. Removing styles was the real crime. Minmaxers are still going to optimize the fun out of everything but playing GU I actually used more weapons in different ways because sometimes it was just a better match. My first Nerscylla hunt took FORTY goddamn minutes with Valor GS and then I went Aerial Hammer and clobbered her in twelve.

3rd gen is a tipping point where the combat is really polished old gen combat, but it has a lot of new gen trappings and philosophies as far as overall game flow and quality of life and weapon balance and so forth. this is especially true for tri specifically. it's my favorite gen because it still has the soul and charm of old gen without being really antagonistic and annoying to play like 1st and 2nd gen often were

to be fair, spastic shitmons are the accurate answer, the other option is dropping landmines follow-up to catch hunters off guard. None of which is fun. Old gen is much more predictable in movement patterns, the game is basically find the good hitzone and hammer it. Wilds lagi is a big example of new gen design: large hitbox, high damage scaling, can move across screen in seconds back to back.
the challenge gravios reminded me how much of a shitmon could be when everything just bounce off (even focus strike, a DB with green sharpness will bounce after the weakpoint after laser) and the only place one can reasonably touch is also shit when he can sleep/fire aoe anytime.

Guard skill adds a flat block value to the weapon per level so you can get the guard strength of the other weapons up to Lance/GL's guard but the big shield weapons with the same skills will still have better guards. And more guard doesn't remove quirks like GS staggering far backwards on hits that surpass their guard, just makes it take bigger hits for that to happen.
Every attack has an "Impact" value and the difference between that and the guard value determines how big the stagger is. This can often be very different from how hard an attack knocks you down on a hit.
Lance's guard dash also interacts weirdly and gives you a bigger guard angle.

It's objectively better for several reasons. Higher grade parts have higher defense and better skills and usually even better slots. Going to the next rank also allows you to unlock the very next rank even faster obviously. The game is designed around the best gear and most exciting fights being at the end so obviously getting there faster is objectively better. You're not missing out on the content you can just come back later. Even if you want to struggle you can just choose to wear starter gear when you do it later or something. Look I'm not against grind or even struggling for the sake of struggling but it is in fact objectively better to just move on and come back later.

I'm not even sure what you're saying at this point. Endgame content has always mattered the most. I mean the game is explicitly designed to push you towards higher ranks. There's a reason they've continuously added to the end of the game since gen 1. First with the introduction of G rank and that later becoming standard and then with the introduction of dedicated endgames. Now we're even getting dedicated endgames in the base game. All because the game is designed to push you towards endgame content.

3U, aside from water combat, it is a decent game in general.
4U is a good game but fundamentally a tendie title. It has the best story and characters in any MonHun, if you care. There is a reason wilds is a massive cocksucker for 4U returning cast.
However, the game has fast shitmons that generally are dickheads. If you want a game to blaze through under 100 hours solo 4U will be a miserable first playthrough experience.

Focus strike will move the hunter's hitbox into the stratosphere, making sure that almost every monster follow-up will never hit you. It also costs zero stamina so you won't be losing MaxMight.
Vaulting dance and air dodge are other options but they move your hitbox horizontally instead, so if you choose the wrong direction, you are fucked.
