The Ariel Academy Culture Festival is a 2 week affair held annually in October. The general public is invited to participate not only in the traditional festivities during the day, but they're also welcome to join the students behind the curtain during the evening for the real attraction, the Backstage Culture Festival.
The clubs and classes of Ariel Academy have set up all sorts of obscene versions of traditional festival staples, and some unique activities only a truly perverse group of high-school girls could have come up with, all to help their customers make every night one to remember.

I wasn't expecting the dev to announce DLC while I was in the middle of translating. DLC was advertised to be adding animation to one of each heroine's base game scenes as well as adding quite a bit of extra content, so I didn't see a reason to release the base game back in August without the DLC. This is the largest project I've ever translated, so I'll probably make a few more posts talking about the game and characters. No, no one is forcing you to read my essays about the game, but at least I'm on topic.

In total, each heroine has 5 scenes, with 3/5 being animated. Then each heroine pair gets 1 additional animated scene. Making a total of 33 scenes with the main heroines, 21 of which are animated. Additionally there are around 40 scenes with the various mob girls hanging around the school looking to bring you a bit of casual sexual relief for the right price. Most of these have an initial encounter version and a returning customer version.

The main heroines are as follows (From left to right in the image):
Matsuri - 1st Year - An energetic and earnest girl who's a little nervous about the Backstage part of the Culture Festival. With a little guidance, this pure-hearted tomboy will be putting her toned body to use for more procreative endeavors with you.

Ichika - 1st Year - Joined the Public Morals Committee in a one-sided effort to keep her naive friend Matsuri out of trouble with the opposite sex. When dealing with Ichika persistence and honesty are the best policy, and before long she'll be taking it upon herself to personally see to it that your cock keeps in good standing with the Public Morals Committee.

Hazuki - 3rd Year - Tall and taciturn, this star volleyball player has a gaze as cold as ice and has an even more difficult time talking to others. Approach without fear and you'll find that the cold exterior will give way to an accepting and slightly masochistic core. If only someone could just come along and tell her exactly what to do so that she could enjoy herself just as much as all the other girls...

Game Strategy
Basically the game operates on two values, energy and money.
You start with 3 points of energy in the morning, use those up and then night will fall and you'll regain your 3 points. Drop to 0 again and the day will advance. These high school girls are basically prostitutes in training, from the mob characters to the main heroines, getting them to get you off is usually a question of how much cash you have on hand. You'll have to spend energy doing part time jobs in order to earn cash, different jobs will eat up different amounts of energy and in return you'll get money to spend at the festival. Once a job has been performed 3 times you'll get a promotion and a raise to go with it. You have 2 in game weeks to reach your desired ending. The difficulty of the game lies in how you spend your time to make money and still simultaneously advance the heroine's stories.

If you played the game prior to the DLC there are a few new items that are here to make your time with the game a little less repetitive. You gain access to the new content on the night of 10/04, a girl in the front courtyard will escort you to the old school building and then you'll have free access from then on.
The science club sells some new items, one will increase your energy permanently by 1 point, the other rewinds time back to the first day while keeping heroine progression flags set.

Money Making
The most accessible, but annoying method is obtaining the Gravestone Fragment (the promotion for pachinko) and save scumming for the pachinko jackpot. Even without the fragment, you still earn 50000 on the jackpot, but the fragment will double the jackpot.

If you're low on cash at night there are delinquents you can beat up nightly for a 2500 yen sell item, and each time you win the strip rock paper scissors game you'll earn your opponent's lewd underwear that can also be sold for 5000 yen, but the game will cost you 1 energy.

Once you have the max energy increase item from the DLC, the toughest jobs that cost 3 energy to do won't instantly send you to the next time period anymore, so getting that promotion to lead male pornstar early on might not be such a bad idea.

There are a few other random events that can earn you some decent cash, so be on the look out.

That's about all from me, I know this game is more CG hunter than RPG so it might not be to everyone's tastes.
Still, the variety of scenes, animated CGs, and the vocal work done for the main heroines (really good oho-voices) made this game stand out enough for me to want to give it a proper translation.
If you do play the game and you run into any Japanese text I missed, typos, or bad sentence structure please reply to any of these posts with a screenshot in the next few threads. I did a proofread of the entire game (something the dev definitely didn't bother doing with the DLC), but I'm definitely sure there's at least a few quotation marks missing at the end of dialogue boxes. If anything is found I'll issue an updated version sometime next weekend.

I already know what game I'm translating next, but I'm curious to see if there are any decent games out there that might be worth looking into that got obliterated by MTL and no one wants to touch them. If any come to mind, feel free to post an RJ or whatever. I'll continue to translate stuff that catches my interest either way.

The scenes with animation are done in loops, each frame is saved as an individual image and called in order. As the scene progresses it switches to more intense animations until ejaculation and cooldown. It very much looks like the animation was done in an outside l2d software and then each frame was saved as an image for rpgmaker to use.

RPGM is such a piece of shit engine that i don't know whenever i feel admiration for jap devs for putting up with it or pure pity
i was just fooling around with it but the whole UI and experience made me want to kill myself. for example i wanted to see event triggers and sure it's triggered when you walk in and some switch is true. but there's no way to see references when the switch is turned on or off, you have to find it manually.
zero way to back reference any stuff, you get primitive "Find" option which doesn't even work somehow. i tried to replace a BGM file and it wouldn't work, there's also no way to test any of it without opening up the game and ideally having a debug map.
it feels stuck in mid 2000s, i'm not expecting any engine change but it does make me thing maybe how faster development would be if rpgm was up to standards, even just for QoL stuff

I'm glad I was able to finish it, the announcement of the DLC while I still had a sizeable chunk of the base game to go was a motivation blow. I had a decent idea of what I was getting into but, suddenly multiplying that by about 1.8 came as a bit of a shock. The thought of more Ichika and Sena content brought me back though and I made a mad dash trying to get through the base game before the DLC dropped. That boost sped this up a ton.
I find it kind of silly, but the fact that I was able to release the game during the canonical time period it's set in (Oct 1st-14th) is pretty funny to me.

It's probably fine to Japanese readers because the text in their literature is traditionally presented vertically like weird little text wind chimes, and nowadays they just rotate them 90 degrees because they got colonized, but this is inarguably outside the stylistic norm of English writing.

It was always a limitation, never a guideline/style. Though I suppose it is becoming a style now that it is no longer strictly required. With the realization of new media, text no longer has to be limited to pure paragraphs without any flair.

Movies, Comic Books, and Video Games, they're all free to play with text as they appear and all have done so to great success. The appearance of text is itself an art form and the reason we have literally thousands of fonts. To choose to believe it should only be one way is simply being restrictive for the sake of it. There are in fact actual book books that play around with text formatting as well. None are seen as "rule breaking" and they're seen as standouts that explore the medium.

We don't need to reinvent displaying text in a box for games. As far as I can recall from the English-source games with text boxes I've played, which are mainly CRPGs, they tend to keep to your standard book/word processor rules when it comes to formatting. With the exception of line breaks on words, but books do that to save costs on printing, which is a consideration that games don't need to make.

It's not really about using the space saved, unless there's a lot of text that needs to put in the box because English is often less compact than Japanese, in which case translators seem to have absolutely no confliction in blaspheming and ignoring the sacred canon newlines. Which, by the way, introduces another formatting inconsistency. The issue is just that English text where roughly every sentence is followed by a newline is weird and annoying to read. Someone said it adds dramatic emphasis. What it does is turn the experience into Indian TikTok. At that point you're not emphasizing if everything is emphasized. And again, that's just how text is formatted in Japanese because otherwise you get long spaceless blocks of text that are hard to read, it's not like they see it as being emphasized. Ellipses and multiple newlines are what they use to convey dramatic pauses.

Justified text in an RPG Maker h-game translation is probably never happening because of technical limitations. It's also the biggish font size games usually have that would be more of an issue than line count since it makes uneven spacing more noticeable. I think a reasonable ask is not leaving an excessive amount of white space between sentences like in the screenshot that started this all so that all lines stay at around the same length. The pic in >>542445414 is a little wasteful for sure, but it's also probably manually formatted on a spreadsheet with a different font because Kagura.

But paragraphs absolutely have a stylistic component to them and there's all sorts of commentary you can find on that.
