I killed him once or twice on normal difficulty right before the cambions reached me. You just need to use everything you have, debuff him, throw explosive tanks, and so on, and a bit of luck for a few crits.

The other way is to haste the mindflayer so it mindblasts twice per round. Getting a few characters with mage hand is good too since mage hand can throw stuff including potions and bulbs. Also you can cheese the fight by shoving the mindflayer back and forth on the stairs so Zalk takes a bunch of opportunity attacks moving around chasing the mindflayer you're shoving. Don't forget to dip your weapons.

Jacob Taylor.

He's a black guy who's father abandoned him in order to become a serial rapist. That's not hyperbole. The companion questline involves finding him on a planet where his ship crashed and he was feeding the female crew flora that made them dumb and compliant and it implied he took advantage of them many times over the course of the years they were there. Jacob is also the only companion to be unfaithful to Shep between games if they're romancing him. Nobody else just moves on and gets a new spouse. Shep wasn't even dead, they were on house arrest. He just couldn't wait. I don't know what Bioware was thinking. It's actually crazy looking back.

I can't think of any others though. I tend to like Sazh, Barret, Cole Train, Marvel's Blade, Lucio, Tyrael, Solomorne Anthar, Ekundayo, and others that come to mind.

I don't think Wyll being somewhat lame has anything to do with him being black, he's just a cheesy character who calls himself the blade and says corny platitudes about being heroes. And stands around waiting for you to decide whether to save his father or not. None of the issues with Wyll would be meaningfully different if he was white or asian or whatever. Or an elf or orc or whatever.

Yeah, gloomstalker, assassin, and arcane archer are all great and ranged and do a lot of heavy lifting for damage. You might also consider sorc/wizard for lightning bolts, which you can throw water on people to make them vulnerable to lightning damage, which is online from level 1. These are nice strong simple builds that will always perform.

Returning Pike. As the name implies this is the only inexhaustible resource when it comes to throwing weapons. Technically available in Act 1 anytime, but most players reach it's trader later than sooner. Then you have a bracer that adds +1d4 damage to Throw Attacks, a ring that does the same (they do stack), a ring that gives +2 Acid damage (same here) to any weapon attacks. Outside of the last this is all exclusive items for throwing builds, then there's a couple other items that's more conditional but can also help you. The real MVP here is the game's most OP Feat, Tavern Brawler (STR modifier added twice to attack roles and damage). People usually use it for unarmed builds and forget that it also works with throwing attacks too. From there it's the usual TB and Hill Giant Strenght Elixir combo (it raises STR to 21, so you can dump it during char creation) and you'll hit very often and hard. There are further refinements (there's a Barb subclass that can use Bonus Action as a regular Throw Attack under Rage) but this is the gist of the thing.

There's a bug with returning pike where sometimes it drops on you from really high when returning. I once had a bad start to Ketheric fight when Karlach took 76 damage from attacking a mind flayer.

I'm in Act 3 as a 10 Swords Bard / 2 Hexblade and while the build is strong, it's pretty fucking boring. Martial classes as a whole seem to revolve around just using regular weapon attacks or abilities like booming blade. Is leaning hard into caster classes really the only way you can have characters that can approach combat in a variety of ways?

Emps kills Lazy with an explosion if Lazy takes the artifact from Shart in Shart's origin story.

Lazy just takes the artifact to the creche and dies in the Zaithisk. Even if Emps saves her from the Zaithisk, she's still sitting in the creche and potentially still loyal to Vlaakith since no one convinced her otherwise, so the artifact simply falls into Vlaakith's hands again. The Emperor is killed by githyanki agents, but the Absolute cult is probably destroyed by Vlaakith's army, with massive collateral damage. We see the brain simply kill red dragons easily, so the city is destroyed and the gith suffer massive causalities, but an actually concerted effort by the gith could probably do it.

If Shart doesn't have someone in the party to make her touch grass, then she becomes a justiciar, kills all the allies from act 1/2, and brings the artifact to Viconia. Wyll, Minthy, Jaheira, Karlach, and Halsin have the highest chance of winning the game in the traditional way.
However, Karlach might lose control when she sees Gortash and rush in and die, which would deliver the artifact to him and result in the cult winning.

Minsc never escapes from doppleganger control in time to stop the plot, and the cult wins.

None of this really matters however, since if the game's characters are not successful, Elminister just solves the problem at the last minute. But it's still fun to think about.

I know your character is an exception but high Strength martial classes can spice things up by throwing and shoving fools. That was my go-to method for eliminating enemies low on health! Grabbing one and throwing at the other has a chance of killing either/both/ knock the receiver Prone. What's not to like? Shoving as a bonus action is great for piling up even more bodies for an upcoming AoE. Eliminating entire Goblin squads in a round by throwing/shoving them into chasms also has it's own charm. My point is that even a powerful but boring build can spiced up if you use the entire arsenal available to you and sneak some creativity to the process.

I'm not sure if this is possible at once. Going through the prison for the extra fight then emerging in the main hall sounds like a decent backup plan. I also have to figure out when to recruit her properly as I read complains about how easy is to piss her off and thus lose the opportunity for good. The synergy is there and Warlock addresses the Bard's offensive weakness but why don't you do a 2 level dip instead? MI:W nets you 2 cantrips and 1 first level spell, so outside of Booming Blade you can get their signature Eldritch Blast as well. But that's it. A 2 level dip would bring Eldritch Invocations into the picture (and Pact Magic and an extra spell and spell slot). Agonising Blast is a must to get the most out of EB, Repelling Blast (4.5m push with it) is up to personal taste but generally well liked, Devil's Sight is just generally super useful while Armour of Shadows grants free Mage Armor if you like running around in robes.

Look up what the Bard class offers later on! You have 12 levels to play with, 4 is already taken by rogue. Bard is really flexible in his sense but 8 levels of it is kind of the middle of nowhere. 6 levels get you Countercharm and a Subclass Feature; 10 levels Expertise, Improved Bardic Inspiration and Magical Secrets (if College Bard you get this at level 6). So while you get plus spell slots (with 4th level spells unlocked), plus a Bard Inspiration and a Feat at level 8, it doesn't necessarily worth it compared to remaining at 6 and investing into a 2-level Warlock dip. This is what you have to consider. There's no good or bad answers here, it all depends what you want to get out of the class and how the big picture looks for your character.
