You're never going to upscale that low res image properly because you're mind is filling in the missing blanks to make it into something that might not exist.

You'd have to be an artist yourself to either redraw it or at least have a proficient hand at AI upscaling it.

Whenever I've looked at any of your screenshots I've had difficulty even telling if the character were male or female based on only the portrait, you're likely projecting your own constructed OC persona onto it. There's nothing wrong with that though, but I think it may be difficult to get it properly upscaled to your satisfaction is all.

What the fuck was Larian smoking when they incorporated Radiant Retort in the lategame enemies? It's not even a DnD mechanic, it's just Larian's own retarded way of balancing the game. Like I understand the intent behind it, but it just makes playing Paladin and Cleric invalid now because now you can't even do the ONE THING that they are are meant to do. I don't mind if bosses like Viconia and Raphael have this super speshul power but generic lowlevel cambions and generic undeads having it just doesn't make sense. Only from Inquisition and all three are irrelevant. Who you romanced (has no bearing on the story unless you romanced Solas, otherwise you just get a single letter), If you kept the Inquisition (irrelevant again), and whether you vowed to stop or save Solas (also irrelevant). Everything and everyone from DA2 and DAO were essentially soft rebooted. Morrigan and Isabella behave like skinwalkers where it feels some some generic NPCs took over their appearance just to spout exposition and act out of character.

I've decided my text adventure crpg will be hybrid text + basic ui and minor graphics. For instance positions in a room, mini-map, display of small images like "look at urn" will show a small picture of an urn (maybe, possibly not. If I do this, it'll be AIslop until I get around to making it myself or hiring, both which are unlikely soon. But I like the idea of "> look painting" and actually seeing a little painting image in one of the side panels. I'm not "dogmatic" about the text adventure, though I want it to be mostly text.)
As well as the Output/Input there will be some side panels for minor graphical convenience. World/region/area/local or something like that. And as far as the issue of "occupying the entire room" I think predefining certain spots works well enough.

I think having this minimal "room with predefined positions" is a good compromise between definition and "theater of the mind". And like some anon suggested, allowing an implicit movement between sub-room spaces makes sense.

Next fun philosophical part is thinking about how to handle dialogue, and if I can do it better than just traversing the tree over and over, greying out the exhausted ones. One idea is when you revisit talking, getting a synopsis of what you talked about before, instead of repeating the conversation which is insanity really.

I don't think I need answers to what a lot of Godot users are asking about though, which makes Godot feel like overkill.

I want to move to C eventually, C/SDL. I don't want to struggle with an engine that does more than I need. This was initially a project to learn C in fact, and to shape up my rusty math/stats shit. So which CRPGs can you Deus Vult? RP wise, BG3 did at least do a good job of adding unique pally dialogues compared to other classes. Gameplay mechanics-wise, it's pretty underwhelming. There aren't that many undead or fiend enemies in the early game and by the lategame, Radiant Retort cucks you from the moment when it would have been your time to shine.

Siege of Avalon might somewhat scratch the itch of being a knight, assuming that's what you mean by that phrase.

Is Kingdom Come a crpg? I know you can only play as Henry but you can sorta play him different ways.

I think roleplaying in Crusader Kings may be the only real option for going full templar.

Planescape though not exactly the same way, a lot of the mechanics of the outer planes and "afterlife" deal with what a soul does and the new forms it can take, or whether it just gets used as a resource to be consumed by a deity or the planar landscape itself.

But I technically said WoT is generic because everything about the world and journey is just your standard fantasy world, even the feeling of the various monsters that attack the village in the beginning, that you have some soul stuff tacked on top is just a bit of dressing.
