>new participants can join the tournament at any point in time, just sign up on the tournament page

>BO3 matches and we're using a very basic leaderboard system, match wins and byes net you 2 points, match losses net you 1 point and no shows give you nothing
>2 no shows in a row will result in a disqualification
>matchups will be randomized each week, as allowing new players to join all the time messes with any automated round systems
>The randomized matchups will be announced in the thread each Monday and the matchups can agree on the time and date of the duel during that week

>we will be using the most recent TCG banlist and the PRERELEASE card pool

The strength old archetypes were designed to have was that their spell and trap support cards worked with all of them, unlike the more generic decks that didn't have archetype support for all of their monsters.
Ultimately the old archetypes were mostly still mogged by them though, since generic staples were still way stronger than archetype support cards.

Nah, the decks actually are a lot more consistent and powerful than their paper Yugioh counterparts because of the Skills and smaller deck size.
First they added complete meta OCG/TCG decks into Duel Links, but the new Skills made the anime decks able to compete against them, but then they added even newer skills that exist just to boost the meta archetypes even though they never appeared in the anime.

If Branded for instance could easily tag into “Fallen of Albaz” plays outside of Fusion, likely by what cards “The fallen and the virtuous” is meant to work with (new Ecclesia) or the ED monsters it sends to the GY, Ash becomes worthless in the entire match up. And suddenly, branded fusion becomes the bait card and somehow “branded in high spirits” becomes a higher ash priority. Meaning, Ash is a lose-lose card unless they only drew branded fusion and four engine. And even then, the win isn’t guaranteed because of the draw cards and powerful non-engine.

And truthfully, cards like Protos isn’t anything that can be stopped unless you go first or floodgated the play at turn 0. Which is where the handtrap misunderstanding mainly comes from.

The three factors I think are more accurate to this game state actually have nothing to do with the boardbreakers or handtraps at all. They are the general flaws with the core design

One of the issues that comes up with any potential Rush audience is that its hard to gauge impact because there's nothing for them to buy. If a kid watches Rush shows and gets genuinely interested then their only options are

It's a lose-lose situation for Rush because they never actually provide any avenue for Rush to even remotely succeed because they keep gambling that something else will do better, then it doesn't.
KoA should've bit the bullet and tested Rush out to see how it goes. Make a Speed Duel-like box with Sevens protag decks in it, include a small rulebook explaining how to play and treat it basically like a standalone party game. If it flops, they can at least say they tried and that Rush "is available" to play. If it succeeds, well then you can keep releasing Rush product and embracing the format.
You can't know if you don't try, and unfortunately Konami not only missed the bus but removed and smelted the bus stop sign down to ensure the bus didn't know where to go in the first place

Shounen anime including Yugioh can be better at making an audience feel a little bit of hope and optimism than a lot of the classics tbqh, depending on what it is. It's still good for people to fully read like 2 or 3 older books and watch some old classic movies to build some perspective, but even through past centuries what could brighten someone's day was often what the commoners were enjoying as a group at the time

Another important aspect of Commander is that it offers a different style of play to the regular format.
Going from 1v1s with 60 card decks with up to 4 copies of a card with only recent sets to 1v1v1v1s with 99 card decks with an omni-present Commander with 1 copy per card with every card in the game is a massive leap.
Genesys compared to Advanced isn't much of a leap. Sure, Links and Pendulums are gone but the underlying gameplay people complain about is still there: the long turns, the low turn-count, the stun/negate/removal spam etc.
I feel like Genesys should've done more to restrain what Advanced is. Maybe implementing Konami's own Beta Format's 3-Summon limit (1 Normal/Set, 1 ED Special, 1 non-ED Special) per turn might've been enough of a fresh take on what Yugioh gameplay is to warrant it existing.
As it stands current Genesys format if anything actively helps "break my board" combo decks by denying access to their answers (handtraps) to a good chunk of decks, meaning the only viable choices are either play the coinflip game or run a deck that is unpointed so you can run Ash, Imperm etc. but at that point you are just engaging in Advanced gameplay again so why not just play Advanced?

Hit to THIRTY-THREE (33) points per copy btw. Lyrilusc - Bird Call, a card that searches any Lyrilusc, adds it or mills it, then lets you get a free Special Summon, is 20 points per copy.
This isn't even counting other hits. To keep the comparison, Lyrilusc has Beryl Canary at 5 and Independent Nightingale at 1.
Gladiator Beasts has Gyzarus at 20, Tamer Editor at 20 and Rejection at 15. If you run 1 of each you are not physically allowed to run additional copies of ANY of the Glad Beast hit cards.
They 1000% had a Glad Beast player at the playtesting groups that just kept playing it so they kept hitting it. These hits are fucking absurd, especially when you compare it to Exosister again
