I think I'm ok with this.

There's a few quality of life changes they could make. They could let you access the Digifarm from the main menu. They could not have flashing white screens so often for transitions. They could make free type Digimon better. In my opinion the way to do that is to make it so they have no advantages/disadvantages against virus, data, vaccine, but their effective advantages/disadvantages when it comes to elements/traits are doubled.

They probably need to rebalance reversal a little bit, maybe by making it a timed debuff/buff with some enemies immune. They could rebalance the progression so that it's not like 2 vaccine bosses in the game as compared to 500 virus bosses. They could rebalance some of the endgame Digimon so that it's not 500 light/dark spammers and a few other types. In my opinion they should make it so that you can Digivolve into armor and DNA from a lower generation but not from a higher one, because right now it's very exploit heavy the way you can turn into a DNA digivolution from a higher gen. Also I think it would make armor Digimon a bit better if you unlock them earlier and later on they can Digivolve into something else.

Not too sure who I'd want for the starters. They kind of have to be cute mascot quality. As much as I Iike Kotemon, he makes more sense for a different setting. Biyomon is probably overdue. Maybe Guilmon or Renamon. And then I'd probably want some wildcard pick.

Might also be good to have some kind of status effect that forces your Digimon out for a few turns and brings in somebody from the back, with ways to resist it. Along the same lines, they could also consider having some fights (mainly bosses) where you fight more than a single wave of enemies. They could also consider rebalancing guest characters. I'm not really a huge fan of how they are basically invincible.

For me I think Digimon's recline is because of the lack of a dedicated central media. A creep of sorts.
Pokemon has the games, but digimon is all over the place. In theory the vpets are supposed to be the central platform, but then they introduced new mons and concepts in anime and games. So you got a multimedia franchise where each branch is outcreeping each other.
For a hardcore fan thats no issue, but for normalfags theres no core media to latch on to. The large gaps between Story games drove people away or if they want to stay, forced them to pick up the pendulums or watch the anime.
