Make a character, do exiles reach, jump straight to Dragonflight, it's a good leveling experience and has decent armors to collect. And if you grab mining and herbalism as your 2 professions and just collect whatever you see and dump EVERYTHING into the auction house you'll have a comfortable amount of gold to set yourself up.

from dragonflight you can go in 3 directions (if you don't have TWW)

BFA is a basic war and adventure story, but it's long, convoluted, but more grounded, you're an ambassador to your faction.
WOD is a step above in terms of high fantasy, you're now a general of the faction and you're leading an army on an alien planet. has some really nice armor choices that look tribal
Legion is peak high fantasy, you're now a demigod of your class and you're in the apocalypse, if you're a warrior you're odin's champion and basically a viking god, or if you're a warlock you conquer a pocket dimension of hell and lead and army of demons and have your own mini kingdom in hell. it's fast paced and simple.

You could just go straight to any expansion I just found dragonflight refreshing and well designed for newcomers. And the resources still net you gold.

probably the coolest caster in game. you're surrounded by an army of demons all the time and you feel like an end game boss. you summon imps from a meteor, use them to fire volleys of hellfire, then throw all of them at the enemy like grenades to cause a fuckoff explosion to end the fight. at max level you're summoning all of fucking hell, like 12 different demons. nothing lives long enough for me to cast all my demons but when I do it's enough to give me a boner. Also you have the best mobiliity, you're literally sprinting and leaving a trail of fire everywhere.

You can pump out more and more content to cling onto the people you have, but eventually that content bloat becomes a hindrance rather than a boon. I think that housing for the first 2 weeks will be exciting because its NEW and people go mountmogcheevoing for the stuff but once it becomes mundane (much like garrisons) i just dont think people will really care too much about it except that specific niche you mentioned.

There's a button on character select to turn remix characters into normal characters, all of them turn into normal characters at the end.
Your infinite knowledge and increased xp gains are account wide so you'll progress a little faster but you start at square 1 on a new character otherwise.
Once you start building increased XP it's way faster to level in remix.

Gil cost is meaningless since there is no token, it just accumulates quick.
Lottery is only a problem in big servers, if you go to the dead servers you get it guaranteed.
Payments to not lose it is every 45 days I think so you could let the sub lapse and strategically come back to renew it. at the end of the day houses are useless and unless you run a venue also completely empty.
They are basically a 1 day hype event and then you forget it exists.
WoW is gonna clap their asses by providing a free house.
also large houses in xiv suck ass because you don't have enough item slots to do shit with them
