I think Silent Hill f would make for good story material. You could have a plot where the player downloads a recently uploaded file edit from NexusMods that unlocks a faux-“DLC ending” after beating the game. The player finds out that they’re actually playing as Hiniko in a “realistic” world—without any of the video game dressup as the base game— who massacres an entire wedding, becomes an uncaptured serial killer who commits gruesome acts.
