Some pro-tips for ailments. Ailment efficacy is calculated based on the character lck vs enemy lck with a base efficacy rate. The higher end ailment skills have a 100% ailment efficacy but it's still based on lck. Ailment resistance drops the calculated efficacy by half (and most bosses carry resistance), however the demon Loa has the abillity to make all active combatants double their efficacy (effectively piercing resistance) and increases how long they last, so he will always be your best friend for ailment builds. The magatsuhi skill Hit also doubles efficacy rate. Enemies gain a layer of resistance every time they get over an ailment, so it stops being effective, but the Magatsuhi skill Dekajeon will reset the ailment immunity so you can keep inflicting the same ailment. The MC is designed for Poison, but there are unique skills for each of the ailments, also look out for ailment chaser skills they tend to be some of the best attacks in the game.

Evergreen Dance, it's 20% extra bar per round and is amazing if you just want to have the Nahobino give utility that isn't buff/debuff. It would also be directed by Hashino and Soejima taking over as the main artist, as Kaneko's art is too "bizzare" for the otaku community. Meanwhile Yamai and Kaneko would continue making SMT games with experimental gameplay, as shown by the Raidou series or SJ.
Obviously the Persona series ended becoming a global hit due to the success of Persona 4. Which not gave Hashino more power within the company, but made Atlus heavily push the Persona series to gain more profits. Meanwhile the SMT series was given low budget projects and slowly forced to have modern Persona elements, which started with the release of DeSu 1.

in smt4 energy drain scales off magic and can be boosted by magic boosting skills like consentrate. normal enemies have a SP limit where that is the limit of how much they can become drained, but they have no casting cost for their SP where their SP can be set to 0 and they will still use skills. It must have been added later on in development. Bosses have unlimited SP. You can unironically have flynn fully restore his SP and HP every single turn if you dump into MAG. Alice is the best support demon in the game, since with concentrate + energy drain, she can heal 150 HP/SP per energy drain.

The hand holding at the beginning is crazy. It's only like two hours in when you're allowed to go off on your own. So one thing from experience is that it's mostly good for IVA onward as the early game don't have bosses last so long that MP restoration's needed (or in Nocturne, fucking cursed magic damage formulas). Energy Drain sucks in the land of the fucking one-shots (as in you one-shot bosses because the devs forgot you can just dump all stats on a damage stat + Charge/Concentrate) meanwhile beyond invaluable when it came time for the harder fights of VV and IVA.

I never felt that way which is why I always tossed those skills outside the early game. In my experience items fill the role it would have had on a demon, and fights still go pretty quick barring super bosses when you have a full party that can generate press turns. A chakra drop typically has the same sustain early game and pots are better late game. I guess if you don't use items you'll have more use for it.

Oh and I can absolutely see energy drain being mandatory for solo runs. Those are always going to be battles of attrition.

I like how I SMT Vengance on a first play though Tao was the MVP of thta area precisely because she was an item dispenser.
