Xth for space girls

I'm new to starcraft and I'm playing through the story, made it to level 7 and I'm starting to hit a wall, only got through 6 because the science vessel making the scv with the emitter invincible.
I usually hate it when games handhold the player but in this case I feel like it should've done a little more in explaining the units better, every level I kept getting more types of them but I still don't know what the point of most of them are. wraiths deal slow and little damage while being easy to kill, colossus are expensive and die pretty easily but they kill flying things faster (?), and I have no idea what the tanks are supposed to be good at. hell, I didnt even know what the science vessel's abilities did until after the level you get them.
point is, I've been getting through by upgrading the marine's damage/armor and spamming them in waves until in 6 where they stopped performing well. now in seven that strategy still doesn't work and I don't know what the rest of my guys even do. what's the point of investing so many crystals and gas into one or two vehicles if they die so quickly? what's the niche of literally any unit besides the marines and vessel? how long am I supposed spend time on just gathering materials and upgrading unit stats at the buildings? when is it appropriate to arm and use nukes?

Read what the units do by hovering over their abilities and stats and tooltips in the buildings and what not. Most of them should be fairly self evident anyhow.

Trial and error until you understand game feel and the mission

Terrans are the turtle faction, when you start running into enemies that send waves at you, build up bunkers, garrison them, then get few siege tanks close to them in siege mode.
Then have some unit with long view range spot enemies for them.
While this is going on, keep building up your economy, never stop building new SCV's and supply depots.
While doing this, build up your death blob, marines, firebats, whatever. Wraiths main thing is that when upgraded, they turn invisible and that way become very cost effective units.

machine gestalt anon from last thread with Unbidden squatting on my front yard with an update: for whatever reason, the Unbidden have decided to go and absolutely roflstomp the one AI empire who has maintained perpetually good relations with me. They've also used the wormholes hop northward and fuck them up and I'm moderately certain they can use the hyper relay every AI empire has thrown up in every possible system, which is gonna make throwing these ghostly fucks out of my dimension all the harder.

On the bright side, the GalCom has realised that energy vampires from another dimension are in fact bad news for everyone and just slightly over half of them are helping to pass the law to declare them a Crisis. I will be personally feeding every single retarded polity who did not to the Synaptic Lathe.

Yeah I fucked up and had to evac two planets, my fortress and primary forge world to be precise. Thankfully, I have a spare Machine World that was originally meant to churn out new drones for the lathe that I'm currently switching to alloy printing but it'll take a little while for it to come online. I'll probably convert all the ratling tomb worlds into more machine worlds as well at some point soon and kiss my tall build goodbye.

I've had great success with my escorts and battlecruisers being "oops, all missiles, arc emitters and kinetic artillery" set to artillery computers because the unbidden can't shoot until they're in brawling distance and, unless they've thrown three fleets at me, they don't even get the chance to scratch the paint.

The more I watch streams of CIV 7 the more I want to get it, it actually looks pretty good. Reading some recent reviews and it seems the game is taking a turn for the better. It's just a shame there's no demo or "try before you buy" so once you drop that money it's gone, unless you refund but it seems cheaper to get from g2a. Anyone been playing it recently and can comment?

finished up with creating new machine templates to cover all our bases now, our alloys have jumped from 500 odd a month to to just over 2k a month and our research is now a steady 5k total unless we shunt some poor maint drones into the lathe. We've got the first the Paradox Titans in production, and the fleets are fully reinforced and just need updating. The Machine world now has a monthly assembly of 49, and once that is fully populated the new drones are getting shipped en masse to the Ring to speed up our economic growth even more.

Closest thing I can propose you are the TAB-like, aka games where you try to set up a town with its own economy while being constantly besieged by zombies/undead/aliens.
The reference is They Are Billions, but for the fantasy aspect, you have Age of Darkness Final Stand (it's not necessarily good, the emphasis on melee makes it a pain to deal with huge crowds). There's also Darfall, but it's a lot smaller in scale.
Otherwise, what else...
Maybe Gladius? Kinda? You play as humanity, on the brink of extinction, and you try to save humanity from the clutches of aliens, monsters, xenos and sodomites. But it's more of a combat-oriented, Warhammer-40000 Civilizations-like, so not really horror.

I played demo and it's ok, though I don't like that devs removed caravans and give too many resources. People arguing over graphics and art style but I don't care. Gameplay like it's like other HoMM, though devs added "laws" or whatever they called, you upgrade main building, get law points and spend them either on units or faction upgrades.

My review:
Picked quick play, classic, shamrock (for the hold capital victory condition which seems interesting), dungeon, the jew hero, second hardest difficulty and let it rip blind.
Music is good, game generally looks good though it's bit hard to see some of the map objects, that's probably just the bit busier artstyle. It definitely has a "classic" heroes feel to it. I would say it's like more of the same but more of everything. Your secondary skills have sub skills. Your unit upgrades have 2 options to pick from, your spells artifacts can be upgraded, your units have alternative attack modes and abilities some of which costs special resource and others are just free but come with downsides etc. etc. there's just so much stuff. I think it will be fantastic to explore and really deep dive into the systems and if you liked that part of the old games then you will certainly like this.
I also like that the AI smoked me on impossible difficulty which I think is something you should expect of the first game even though I'm fairly experienced with the genre, if the AI can't beat me now then it will never have a chance and that's not particularly fun.

There's clearly some missing tooltips and stuff. Like I get that the old style of just showing a unit icon on the map and you just have to "figure it out" is fine but honestly with the amount of abilities these guys have and the double upgrades looking pretty similar to each other at a glance it wouldn't hurt to let me view the abilities of an unit on the map before engaging. In homm 3 you could pretty reliably pick out at least basic archers because they had a bow but here even troglodytes can be ranged and they are just guys with a spear so who the fuck knows.

The fact that they let you play a full demo like this is pretty fantastic. Definitely peaked my interest a lot more than it already had, worth trying for sure, it's free.

Also, no matter what you put on their designs, nanite ships all keep their stock price of nanites and nothing else. So you can just stack them with archeotech weapons, dark matter shields, engines and reactors, and whatever else you'd like.

No one in the group is guaranteed through to the final day and this autism shows what teams go through on what outcomes. TL;DR is we need to win to advance to the final day tomorrow, although advancing on a draw is possible if one team blows another one out. If we advance to tomorrow we'll play two matches, first a semi-final against a team from Group A then either a 3rd place match or a final depending on if we win the semi-final or not.

I have no idea what Halo Wars always telegraph where the AI will attack you and what they'll use but I love it.

Oh yeah, turrets in Halo Wars are attached to your base and are upgraded through techs, but they also can get specialized expansions, like a flaming mortar to deal with infantry, an "electric cannon" to deal with vahicles, and a missile launcher to deal with flying.
The add determines the preferred target, but is added to the normal machinegun.

It wasn't even difficult because none of them had built more than 10 battleships combined by the 2300s but I had to slog through half the fucking galaxy alone because neither of my fed allies did JACK SHIT. I ended up console'ing to see what fleets if any they had - one had 30 space amoeba babies, the other had a single mercenary enclave fleet and the other had an actual fleet but was blocked in because of the bordergore from the Khan.
