You're writing fanfiction again, Sparky. Amy's entire character is defined by her desire to catch Sonic's attention. She wants the wind to brisk through her. Sonic IS the WIND. Amy is not the WIND. To say she's like him is to deny her entire character as presented in the games just to fit your headcanon.
You're twisting their arcs too. Tails's story was about gaining the confidence to use the skills he already possessed. Amy's was about developing the skills to match the heart and will she always had. Both start from a place of perceived inadequacy and grow into their own heroes, inspired by Sonic. It's the same thematic journey, just from different starting points. One lacked confidence, the other lacked competence.

"Externally, Tails is just like Sonic." What does that even mean? He's a yellow fox who flies. This is just word salad to make your bad take sound profound.
You're the one being reductive with your "Girl Sonic" label. It's a fundamental misunderstanding. I never said they are the same character. I said they serve the same narrative purpose relative to Sonic. They are the followers of the wind, not the wind itself. That is their parallel.

I have several pages written for the current version of the story, and even more written for the previous versions of the story I was going through.

I've been constantly writing, and then rewriting, and then having to stop and revise my plans, and then rewrite the story all over again to follow those changes, only to hit a new wall as I realize even more is either out of place or not properly developed, so I have to rework those things before rewriting things yet again.

I have very big and complex plans spanning what I intend to be like 7 chapters across 13 episodes with several storylines that diverge and converge all over the place, and a lot of lore and backstory and even future stories to keep track of. You certainly are trying harder to prove the work you put in which is more than I can say about one of the artists I knew who largely just made excuses anytime I asked her how her project was going.

I thought she was serious at the start when she said her comic had to be traditionally published or it would be worth so much less to her. It took a massive reality check for her to realize that no one was going to fund her comic out the gate especially since most traditional publishers prefer to pay royalties than the cost of production.

It's about my plans for the story itself. I can't make a one shot thing unless that fits the plans for the story as I want to tell it.

The way I was approaching things, a one shot thing didn't fit. Because the way I've been trying to construct everything, it's like I wanted to follow having a "Classic" era and then an "Adventure" era and other stuff, especially with how heavily I draw inspiration from Sonic stuff. But I kept running into issues because in regards to my own self-insert character and how I want his story to be like Tails' stories more or less, I kept running into the problem of not being able to justifiably split Classic & Adventure Tails' overall storylines apart.

Like, I break up my characters' development using the bosses from Undertale to represent each stage of his character arc, but after getting past "Asriel" and how that blurs directly into facing Riku from Kingdom Hearts, the only logical step after that is just Tails vs Eggman in Station Square, and I can't even -begin- my character's story properly without having it begin under the premise of fighting my own mother through the context of Toriel or something as the first major obstacle in his life, which overall means that my plans for my character's individual story arc can only exist in its entirety in either the "classic" or "adventure" era alone, splitting it up is impossible and un-justifiable. Another smaller scale example is having a character named "Sweets" that represents both Cheese the Chao AND Chaos 0 / Perfect Chaos, which mean I can not introduce the "Cream" character, Sundae, unless this is the story that ends with Super Sonic vs Perfect Chaos, which itself has to be the "Adventure" story.

So, what I ended up deciding to do was take my plans for Energy alone and putting that together under one single short story that can serve as the beginning for everything else, and have that alone be "Classic Sonic".

It's like you think Amy is just a discount Tails, and you project Amy's love for Sonic onto Tails and his own dynamic with Sonic, so your mental impression of both is one concept. And it seems like you ship them together as a direct result of that, but mostly as a way to get Amy away from Sonic.

I don't deny what Amy actually is, unlike you, I embrace it. At her core, she very much IS "Girl Sonic". Sonic embodies the Wind, and Amy embodies love and passion to the same degree with the same 'passion' for adventure that Sonic has. To say otherwise is a flat-out lie. The way Amy is written, at her absolute best, is just the girl version of Sonic with all the same paragon status effects. The only difference is that she wasn't as strong physically at first, but that wasn't a problem anymore in Sonic Heroes. Heroes!Amy is "Girl Sonic" at full force, both physically and spiritually. But even before that, Amy's moments with Gamma and Shadow and stuff are the same spirit of Sonic being the wind.

Amy's passion is for connection, for others, for love and fate. Sonic's passion is for adventure, for freedom, for being untethered. These are not the same "spirit". They are opposing forces. You're the one turning them into cheap copies. You want to erase Amy's identity to make her a gender-swap, and you want to erase Tails' identity to make him a "second Sonic". I'm arguing that they are strong characters precisely because they are not Sonic. They are inspired by him, but their journeys are their own. They are followers of the wind, not a different flavor of it.

This is false. I'm very direct and open about what I'm drawing from or what I'm inspired by, but behind the scenes I break down all of these things and build my own stuff from it.

I will say stuff like my long-term plans for my character effectively being like Gurren Lagann, and Simon beating the Spiral King = Tails beating Eggman in Station Square = Miles Morales "What's Up Danger" scene and stopping Kingpin = Some variation of Sora fighting Ansem or Xemnas. But that's just be describing what I am inspired by, not how I'm actually telling the story.

Acting like connecting these things together is a "mess" just conceptually alone is madness. Everything that exists is inspired by a combination of other stuff put together in a new way.

The point of having a "Classic / Adventure" era in my project is for the sake of having time skips and stuff, like Ben 10 vs Ben 10 Alien Force, or Naruto and Naruto Shippuden or whatever. And that's something I -have- to do because my friend, Energy, has that built into his own character so I have to work around that. His character's story involves going to China to train under someone for a couple of years, and so I've had to split my own story plans either before or after, with the "Before" era being what I'd call the "Classic" stuff and where I always plan to begin. This is what I've changed recently by just putting the bulk of it after his training arc, under a specific time window where every character's ages are in the right alignment I need and stuff.

I never said anything about becoming Riku. I equate Riku to Asriel as the player character's best friend and rival who at some point harnesses the power of six hearts/souls and has to fight the player to get the seventh one which is inside the player all along.

Fighting my "mom" is something that makes the most sense from the perspective of my own life experience, and I'm using Toriel as the vehicle or framework to tell that personal story and vent a lot of emotional frustration towards her, all under the framing of a kid having to go through their parental figure in order to gain their own "Freedom". I plan out my character's story arc around the theme of becoming "Unbound", and so he has to break through everything holding him down in life, either externally or internally. I use Undertale's main bosses to represent each aspect.

Papyrus, to reflect the Tails traits of being a younger brother figure that wants to be "cool" while the older brother figure is the guy everyone knows and loves, Undyne to directly challenge my character's fear and anxiety making him cowardly or whatever and overcoming that to face danger head on, and Mettaton to force my character to go from a socially anxious loser that can't talk to people out loud to someone able to perform live on stage in bunch of a massive audience. And then Sans to reflect back all of the Sonic stuff really, and then I have Asgore also reflecting Aaron Davis from Spider-Verse as well as my own late father, and then Asriel to cross with Riku and represent my late cousin, who is actually the one who first pushed me to start working on my project when I was a kid. The plan is for my character to become more and more 'unbound' through each of these points, and then capping it all off with facing the Eggman figure one-on-one without "Sonic" around.

This character, Energy, has a Ben 10 + Avatar Aang thing going on.

According to the law of thermodynamics, Energy can not be created nor destroyed, only change forms.

But the first main forms themselves are "Monsters", that each also have an element attached to them. There are four monsters with each of the four elements. And a fifth transformation for "Heart", which is useless 99% of the time but basically almost-Super Sonic "when loved ones are in danger". That Heart also belongs to the character Kardiá, so her own origin story is wrapped up in this as basic concept as well.

The "one shot" story I'm working on has only one of each monster that Energy faces one by one and obtains a different "form" from. Although, with four elements, only three can be actual "transformations". Since he's "Sonic", Air would be the automatic default. It doesn't help that the core idea for that monster is also inspired by XLR8 from Ben 10, so I think of it as perfect for a basic monster he'll fight, but redundant as a "transformation", so really it's just a White Wisp at best.

But thinking about this through the lens of Sonic, Energy's forms are basically like Elemental Shields crossed with Color Powers, since they're "transformations" but also have that elemental quality as the main thing as well. But also, I still need to properly think through the mechanics of how each transformation will actually work with his base form essentially being Black Knight Sonic.

Between the Fire Shield & Red Burst, and other things, there's a very clear image of what Sonic with "Fire" is like, mechanically, but water and earth don't have as clear of an image and I think that's what's slowing me down. Although there is that "Gray Quake" Wisp, I guess... But the Water Shield just being a bubble that he can Bounce with feels like it's not capturing the full scope of what I'm looking for ... though I guess that'd just be adding Chaos 0 and the Werehog, I suppose.

Three or four issue story arcs do sound risky at first glance, but from what we've seen with the comic's storytelling, most Sonic fans find storylines that keep going on issue-after-issue boring because this is a monthly comic book and that means an actual big story could take an entire year or more to finish, and this is including delays. This is probably the best strategy the comic's got.
